For those who don't know Master work chests are cosmetic chests with no Champion shards.

Blue Essence is still used in buying icons occasionally when they do those, and they also run the Essence Emporium, which is returning this mid-season. You can purchase chromas, Urfwick for 150,000 BE, gemstones with escalating BE prices (starts at 75,000, goes up to 150,000), fancy icons, fancy ward skins, random ward skins, and other things. So Blue Essence I no longer worthless, hence why it will remain in the free chests.
