@RIOT Why can Yasuo hold his Empowered Steel Tempest for so long?

CatSith··45 votes·2,417 views

The one thing that makes him so oppressive is being able to zone someone because he can hold on to his Empowered Steel Tempest until the last second. I don't remember the champion but I'm sure someone had this change done to them also because of the overbearing zoning.

Making him use it quickly or lose the Empowered attack.

I'm upset because the community lacks in knowing how to play more champions instead of spamming this same HASAGI guy in every game they play.

I have made several suggestions as to how to limit Yasuo's abilities, but the community in general is never happy with those suggestions.

All I ever hear is "Nerf him" but nobody has any idea how to nerf him.

The only other thing I hear is delete him, but Riot is not going to do that.

So people need to either suggest/accept compromise, or learn how to play against him.

Or just hope that Riot finally does something about it, and bitch about it constantly until then. ... which seems like exactly what they're content on doing.

CatSith19 votes

So reducing the time of an ability to hold a long range stun isn't a good suggestion? If not then why not?

Tell me instead of downvoting and saying "Is someone upset because the big bad samurai beat them up?"

Spicy Rice2 votes

You do realize it's one of the slowest moving skill shots in the game.

One of the only cc abilities that requires you attack enemies to charge up.

And is extremely telegraphed

It has counterplay out the ass, so please at least complain about something that might actually need fixing, like the windwall getting wider every level

Oelyk2 votes

its faster than morgana Q, yet we still get hit by that...

I dont play yas, but his tornado isn't a problem for me, ever. even when I was a scrubby scrub scrubbing the scrub brush's scrub scrub. it's so painfully obvious when he's looking to use it, and sure melee champs may have a hard time avoiding it, but you have to charge up the damn thing and it IS slow. How is it fair to complain about that zoning when caitlyn can just plunk a trap down right behind you and if you just happen to step on it you fucking die? you get hit by a nado while laning you're not dead unless he decides to all in, and then it's not really zoning its a full out fight. Yas's tornado is one of the more fair things he has

Zero Skill Tank1 votes

You do realize that he can combo it with E to piss on that counterplay?

Spicy Rice1 votes

Literally walk into him as he dashes into you. The dash will overshoot and you won't get hit

Apparently, no one gives a shit about this when Nunu got his new passive. [slayer-jinx-unamused]

So it's only fair that Yasuo gets the same treatment then.

Nunu is generally ignored by the community. He is actually much stronger than he is given credit for, but the community just doesn't care because you very rarely get out-played by a Nunu. He can only out-sustain you and beat you with raw power, period.

Yasuo doesn't need to necessarily out-power you, he just needs to out-play you. He avoids and sheds damage, he closes distance and escapes, he cancels animations and resets his auto attack timer, .. He does all of this without any built in sustain or bonus resistances and that pisses people off.

When someone knows how to play Nunu well, he is annoying to play against.

When someone knows how to play Yasuo well, he looks like a flashy mechanical god.

No, it's the fact that they nerfed TF for being able to hold gold card for 4 seconds as opposed to yasuo's 8

Yasuo's 3rd Q is more complex to obtain, it is a skill shot, and it is essential to his being able to use his ultimate without having to rely on his teammates.

CatSith13 votes

He can use it with sweeping blade and that isn't a skillshot. Being able to hold it so long early in the game gives him the power to zone anyone and its not okay because of his mobility.

Why can Annie hold her stun forever? Why can Jhin hold his 4th shot for ages?

Iesbian5 votes

It's almost as if Annie needs to be in range of you in order to even use her stun. Her main combo is flashing INTO you for God's sake.

And if you think 4 seconds is "ages" then you need reconsider. Yasuo can hold his for 8 seconds.

Either know what you are talking about or don't post. It's not hard.

Automated Riven4 votes

10 pretty sure yas can hold it for 10 seconds. its up more then its down if he holds it.

Ariel the Cruel3 votes

Oh come now, his Q3 only has an 8 second maximum cooldown. (>_>)

Just for fun, let's see what other hard CC hits the 8 second window:

Rank 5 . . .

  • Anivia Q (8 second)
  • Mega Gnar's W (7 seconds)
  • Kled's mounted Q (7 seconds)
  • Maokai's Q (6 seconds)
  • Quinn E (8 seconds)
  • Vi Q (8 seconds)
  • Xin Q (5 seconds + 2.5 AS = 7.5 seconds)
  • Rek'Sai W2 (8 seconds each target)
  • Vollibear Q (8 seconds)
  • Zilean double Q (8 seconds)
  • Amumu Q (8 seconds)
  • Jax E (8 seconds)

Rank 4. . .

  • J4 QE combo (E lasts 8 seconds at all ranks, Q 7 seconds @ rank 4)
  • Riven W
  • Sion Q (7 seconds + 1 second charge)
  • Bard Q (8 seconds)
  • Kennen QWE (rank 4 W&E, rank 1 Q = 8 seconds)

Rank 3. . .

  • "Muh Diversity"

Rank 2. . .

  • Blitz E (8 second CD)
  • Naut Passive (8 seconds @ lvl 5)
  • Leona Q (8 seconds)

Rank 1. . .

  • Garen Q (8 seconds)
  • Malz Q (6 seconds)
  • Braum passive (8 seconds each target)
  • Brand Q+P (8 seconds)
  • Irelia E (8 seconds)
  • Kennen Passive (really stretching this one ; 2.5 AS = AA ever 0.375 sec = passive proc every 5.625 seconds)
  • TF W (6 seconds + cycle time)
  • Udyr E (6 seconds each target)

***Honorable mention. . ***

  • Annie passive (Q -> WER -> Q -> Q or W = 12 second minimum between stuns without CDR, 6.6 with 45% CDR)
  • Baron Nashor Knock-up (18 seconds)

In before:

  • "You're saying <insert nonsense here>." No. I'm not. This was "for fun." Raw data. Purely for reference. I don't make, support, or counter any claim by presenting this list. When I want to make a claim, I will. Until then, don't go putting words in my mouth.
  • "But Yasuo has to auto something to build stacks." He also gets free "CDR" per level since it gets reduced by bonus AS.
  • "But Q CD goes down with AS per level" It's also situational and require prep.
  • "You're repeating yourself." And you're still going to try and makes these arguments, aren't you?
  • "But <Champion> can do <thing> in <scenario>." In terms of hard CC, Leona has the most up-time. 1 second stun every 2.75 seconds (rank 5 Q with 45% CDR), 0.5 second root every 4.95 (+ ~0.25 second cast time - E), 1.5 second sun every 33.625 seconds. I did the work for you. You're welcome.
  • "But. . ." YOU'RE WELCOME!
  • "Nerf/buff Yasuo" Wrong topic.
  • "<Something completely unrelated>." Please save me the trouble of reading your post. [ -> (Beat head here) <- ]
  • < D D > I got nothing. ;p

EDIT:

  • really F'ed up on the Kennen math. Fixed {face palm}
  • Typo - "maximum, not Minumum"
Automated Riven1 votes

Oh come now, his Q3 only has an 8 second minimum cooldown. (>_>)

I dont know what you mean by this. the only way it makes sense is if you meant maximun. but i dont know. assuming that he has no attack speed he has a min cooldown at level 1 with 8 seconds. but that scales down to around 3 or 4 at max cdr/attackspeed. (I dont have any intention of doing the math but its something like that) notice I am not saying he is op. nor am I saying that he needs to be nerfed. I play riven so I regularly stomp on yasuo's. That being said if yas gets ahead he gets to perma zone you with his tornado (as a melee champ) because it takes about 4-5 seconds to charge the tornado and he can hold it for 10 seconds.

So basically, annoying yes. OP, no. The only reason I would be happy if yas was nerfed is cause I hate him and I would really like to never see him again.

edit all this is besides the point because your whole post has nothing to do with the content that was posted before. I said he could hold it for 10 seconds and you jumped on the cooldown.

An Undead brat1 votes

Wait it's actually a good point, why can Annie hold her stun forever? Like, that's the point of zoning, forcing someone out of a location because of the incredibly powerful spell which is dodgeable only if you're out of the range... The only thing you can do against a half-conscious Annie is being an artillery mage to even be able to CS, otherways she just forces you out of the lane if she pleases.

Daddy Ants1 votes

I main her and I still think the stun having a permanent duration is unfair as fuck.

Leblancs Boob1 votes

I mean the obvious answer is that if Annie is holding her stun she isn't using abilities despite the fact that she is a burst mage. Likewise if Jhin is holding his 4th AA he is not AA'ing anything even though he is a marksman.

Yasuo holding his tornado doesn't hinder him very much because he can still deal high dmg AA's and dash all over the lane until he finds the perfect moment to shoot the tornado.

invisiblecat15 votes

What about Jhin's forth shot He can hold onto it for like 10 seconds, and if he right clicks and enemy and cancels the auto he gets the cooldown restarted So basically if you are under 1/3 hp you just have to stay out of his range until he decides to use it, but then he has it back up 4 seconds later

CatSith10 votes

If jhin is gonna hold onto his 4th shot for 10 seconds just to zone you, hes losing cs too.

Gosh Darn1 votes

Not necessarily. All 3 of his basic abilities have waveclear potential with his Q being incredibly reliable for CSing, it's already what he uses to CS when reloading. That's what separates the good Jhins from the great Jhins. Being zoned by an ability that can execute you if you're around 35% hp for 10 seconds is a very long time. I think Jhin is mostly balanced right now, but the 10 second zoning is pretty heavy, and for every CS he 'might' miss, the enemy adc can miss just as much, and like I said, Jhin is probably the best ADC in the game for clearing waves with abilities.

CatSith2 votes

This is early game jhin, hes not gonna be able to cs while holding on his 4th shot to zone you. that's just leaving him vulnerable for a counter attack/gank.

invisiblecat11 votes

I wasn't talking about how in lane he will get punished for it, but more of how late game with Rapid Fire Cannon he has so much range on his 4th shot and so much damage and can hold onto it without a limit

TheIronRevenant2 votes

he has it back up 4 seconds later

Elite4Runner3 votes

I didn't downvote you. I asked a quesiton. Albeit a sarcastic question, but that really seems to be the only reason I can think of targeting him in this way.

I personally don't think that reducing the time that he is able to hold on to his empowered Q would do do much to actually put him in place.

Actually, I don't think his zoning pressure is really anywhere near as strong as you do apparently.

For the most part, you KNOW when he has his 3rd Q up because you can see a visual indicator, you can normally tell where and when he is going to toss it out, and it is pretty slow. It may not be 100% dodgeable, but given the complexity required to set it up, the limited range and speed, and the importance it has in regards to his kit (being his ONLY form of knockup needed to perform his ultimate), I think allowing him to hold onto it for a decent amount of time is more than justified.

I will humor you to a degree however, and here is where the compromise comes in.

IF Riot were to decrease the time in which he is allowed to hold on to his 3rd Q by any significant amount, it should absolutely be expected that the skillshot itself would be made more difficult to dodge.

Meaning the range, the width, the projectile speed, .. at least one of these would be increased.

Salron3 votes

Lategame it needs to be that long

Best way to change this would be something like 6/7/8/9/10s duration, scaling with Q rank 6s might be too low, but this is the ideal way to change it

CatSith1 votes

6 seconds is still pretty long and if nerfing its duration really affects his late game. Id say 4 seconds for base duration and scale it with his ult 6/8/10.

invisiblecat11 votes

6 seconds early game is too long, and 10 seconds late game is too long I think early game it should last for as long as his Q cooldown (about 3 seconds) And then late game it could be something like 4 times it (So about 6 seconds)

alfavhunter2 votes

how to change it

his empowered Q now falls off 50% faster, but if it lands on an enemy champion it slows them by 50% for 1 second after they land

this lowers his opening to use it, but makes it have more utility when not using his ult with it

DunkinNoobs2 votes

He has to use Q twice to even get the tornado, it's the only way he can proc his ult on his own, and it's easy to dodge.

CatSith1 votes

That doesn't mean players should be subjected by it pre lvl 6.

DunkinNoobs2 votes

If you're playing properly, Yasuo should be forced to use his tornado to CS anyway. You're Diamond; you know how this works.

CatSith1 votes

He can auto attack to cs he doesn't need to use his tornado. I've played plenty against Yasuo. He zones better than control mages like Azir and Zyra and hes not even ranged.

DunkinNoobs2 votes

TIL that Yasuo zones better than control mages. Good one man.

Skorch2 votes

Why are you that terrified by it that you are permanently zoned by it pre-6 anyway

It was TwistedFate . Had his W nerfed for that exact reason.

Chembaron Yamada1 votes

The tornado is not really the main problem with Yasuo in my opinion. His manaless mobility with E is the biggest problem. He can dash in with charged Q, knock you up and damage you, then immediately dash out to deny you any retaliation. Who thought manaless nearly infinite mobility in lane would be a good idea? At least, Riot should enable players to see the CD of his E on the minions, so we are able to track his possible escaping paths easier.

But I have to admit: the argument from many people in here that he has to charge up the tornado is pretty bad. Like half of his kit, Yasuo's Q has a cd that is almost not existent and he can charge it up by hitting minions with it. That argument would have any meaning for me, if Yasuo would just be able to charge up his tornado if he is hitting champions with his Q. But the way it is, it is really not "hard" or "situational" to charge up his Q.

Hayaishi21 votes

This isn't the problem with Yasuo. and this thread is trash, just getting upvotes because it;s hating on Yasuo.
