The only reason i don't like Auto Fill.

Bad Supports.

Like, i know it's pretty hard to be bad at most support CHAMPS but the role itself can be pretty difficult and there are just as many things to track in a Duo Lane as a Solo Lane.

I'v played 8 ADC games in about a day or so, 7 out of those 8 games, i had a support that was auto filled. In those auto filled support games my sup would frequently be unable to lane properly, they would walk to far up and get chunked quickly, would run off to chase someone down while i'm being 2v1ed or wouldn't use their Heal/Shield ability(if they had one) on me correctly. This goes without saying but those same sups would frequently KS me, then die, now KSing is not that bad but then dying after is awful, because that means that not only did i not get the kill but they did, putting me behind in a lane where my Janna has kills and i don't, that's pretty bad.

This is the only thing that makes me hate Auto Fill, i'm pretty sure in High Elo it's not that bad since if your Diamond+ you should know how to play every role well enough to not be a feeder but in low ELO games getting auto filled cripples that team.

(Keep in mind that 80% of the player base is Low ELo.)

I think what also sucks about it (unless they changed it), was that if you don't win your autofill game... you can be autofilled again. Which... honestly just sounds awful. I'm not very good at many roles (I'm okay at mid/support) but the rest of my gameplay is questionable at best, if I was autofilled (for some godforsaken reason) into say... jungle, and on a champ I'm not comfortable with... if I was to lose and be forced into the position again... I'd probably cry.

I think it definitely sucks, but it also shows that people might want to try and be more well rounded.

Also if riot would implement a way to say "I want these two roles, no autofill, I will wait an eternity to make sure I get one of these two roles" then it might help. They only reason they do autofill is to keep queue timers reasonable, but some people don't care if they wait 1 minute or 20 minutes, they just only want to play a specific role. And if they are willing to wait, by all means let them wait.

It helps to learn people who can be viable in multiple roles.

So you like mid/supp? Galio works for both and can also do well top and in the jg (just run spellbook for extra smites). Gragas can work in both, and again, also works in top and jg. Maokai works for support and also top and jg. Stuff like that.

Flex picks can do wonders when you're in new roles.

Oh don't get me wrong. I am not saying that it's necessarily bad to be forced into a new role. However, I find it generally displeasing to be forced into a role while in a queue that I'm already stressed over (aka ranked ;-; ). While yes, some champions can be played in several lanes/roles, the champions I prefer are pretty static. Again, I can play different roles, I just don't like to. I would highly prefer a comfort pick mid over a champ I'm alright with in a role I don't generally play them in. If that makes sense?

I like autofill for the fact that it forces you to learn shit, which is a damn good thing. I main support but before switching to 3s mainly, I'd been on a top/mid kick because I wanted to learn more than just supp. Occasionally I'd get filled to Jg or ADC and while I would never say I'm awesome at those roles, I'm certainly much better now than I was before ever really having to do them.

Now that I've played every role a pretty fair amount, partly due to autofill, I've got a waaaaay better understanding of the game. As a solo laner I've got a better understanding of viable gank paths for both my jg and the enemy, as a jg I've got a better understanding of what sorts of moves I can make to influence the map (and this translates to every other role, too), and as the duo laners I'm much better with communication and teamwork, even with randoms.

Autofill stops being a problem when people learn more.

I agree with this to an extent. I definitely learned while being autofilled. I just also think that if some people aren't comfortable playing a position (especially in ranked) they shouldn't really have to. For example, I can top. However, my mid and support is better... so I'd rather not play top if I didn't have to. On the other hand, the times I have been forced into top, it helped a lot to learn matchups and such, it's just not my strong point.
