@Riot at what point will you decide when/if it's time to stop adding champions?

I don't mean that to be aggressive or condescending in tone; I'm genuinely curious. Have you discussed potentially releasing new champions? If so, have you a certain point in mind in regards to the amount of champions?

I don't think they plan to.

Should they though? I mean, how long can they really go on releasing champions? It requires resources to balance champions and the more champions you have, the more sources required to balance. Eventually you'd think it would get to a point where they either don't want to commit the amount of resources required to keep this up or they run out of means to provide resources in the first place (less likely). Obviously they've slowed releasing champions significantly but i wonder if they talk about this much.

They probably talk about it alot. It might get to the point where we only get one new champion per season.

This.

Basically, only when the game is dead and servers are going to be shut down forever, will they stop.

I've wondered the same. Personally I think they should keep making new champs, and retire older ones that don't quite work anymore instead of rebuilding them.

According to this https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/202083304-Permanent-Champion-Price-Reduction

We are guaranteed atleast 16-17 more champs. I say 16-17 because idk if they will count the new champs as 1 or 2

They've brought it up in some of the videos (the ones that had Scarizard before he left, and Ghostcrawler). I don't think they were talking about Riot's plans as a whole, but the individuals brought up the idea of rotating rosters per season. Like in season 15, maybe they limit you to only choosing from 15 of the available 25 ADCs, 5 of the 7 melee carries, 10 of the 15 tanks, etc. Then rotate who's available/not available per season, to keep things fresh.

It sounded like they thought there was still tons of fertile design space open. And since they're only doing 6 champs a year (instead ~20 like back in 2011). Honestly, the ~140 we have now is already a ton. To make it significantly more difficult to balance than it is currently,

Champions will always get added.. the game had an odd swell of champions during afew seasons, but i am actually glad they tapered off a bit for the stability of the game.

Some champions actually force a change of the meta which is interesting. also i get to remember logging on for my birthday and see a champion release that day.
Girl you know who i am looking at when i say that Vi i dont play her much but if she was real i would throw a baby in the oven and try things that would make a father grab a gun and a mother feel as if they are a virgin.

back on topic.. glad they slowed down the making and releasing of champions.

Depends on how long they expect the game to last. At a rate of 4-5 champions per year, that's only 40-50 champions in a decade, chances are another game might have stolen the show by then.
