Dear @Riot, a friendly message to you from the Syndra mains community.

Dear, Riot

As you surely know, one of Syndra's core mechanics is the spheres management. Good Syndra players are able to manage their spheres in order to keep as many as possible on the ground, waiting for a good chance to R a squishy; this is what we use to call "windows of power". These were drasticaly altered with patch 6,9. Even though the 3 spheres grab is luckily gone, the increased duration on her Q still breaks this important mechanic and makes it almost non-existant. Unleashed Power, however, isn't the only spell affected by this: an extended spheres duration also increases the threat of her W and, in particular, her E. This is particularly evident in pro play where, however, she isn't really performing that well. We believe that the nerfs that were recently done for the sake of her balance caused a series of problems that, paired with an unfavorable meta, are very detrimental for Syndra, resulting in a very low win rate and pick rate altogether. These problems are:

  • Poor early game damage. At level 3, she only has 50 base damage from her Q, 70 from her W and 80 from her E.
  • Very depentant on her R to burst anyone, since her Q does little to no damage and her W needs to be maxed to be relevant.
  • Easier to access R burst, which causes frustration to other players when a squishy is successfuly ulted in a fight.

At this point, you may be wondering how these problems could ever be fixed. Many of us Syndra mains think what the perfect starting point would be a total revert to her pre patch 6,9 state, with the exception of her W Transcendent passive, which seems to us way too important to keep our damage relevant as of now.

What we're basically asking is: please, do consider a Transcendent Q passive revert. We strongly believe that, once it's gone, balancing Syndra will be much easier.

Thanks for your attention. With love, Seviel Vorose - 1.058.070 mastery points EUW Syndra main.

Yeah I think 6.9 is about the last time I played Syndra lol.

She's still functional if you're really good in certain cases, but she isn't where she should be.

She's a straight ability mage, and any smart team was able to defeat even before the nerfs therefore it makes no sense why she got nerfed into the ground to be a matchup specific mid laner.

I mean esp if your concern was her domination in the lower ranks, she's still not picked as much as Yi's and other nonsense. Heck, nerfing her actually took away from the lower tiers against high risk comps like Yi, Trynd, Zed, Yas, etc.

Did she ever dominate in low ranks though? I thought that was lux.

Her playrate isn't that high in low ranks, never really has been. She's not much of pubstomper.

Seviel Vorose presents a very good point, Syndra's state right now is horrible because of her reliability on R to deal damage since her Q abysmal damage in the early game. A total revert to her pre-patch 6,9 would be a good way to solve that.

Too lazy to write something so I'll just copy paste what I wrote in another thread

"The current passive on Dark Sphere makes Syndra arguably difficult to balance since most of her combos (namely the ones with high number of spheres for Unleashed Power) are much easier to access, when instead they were always meant to be a difficult combo to pull off for excellent burst damage as payoff. I remember that when this was changed in the MYMU the intent was clearly to make these combos easier to achieve because they were deemed too difficult to do previously, but honestly right now you can do a full 7 spheres Unleashed Power as early as level 9 (with Dark Sphere maxed of course) and 20% cdr, and that's kinda sad compared to before the Mages Update. I also believe that the previous Dark Sphere passive was more fun to play with than the current one, and the one she has currently just feels like a way to make her timings more easier to access, which causes problems with her kit, even if I also understand that the "deal more damage" passive was put into Force of Will with the true damage."

So yeah as we all agree her current passive on Dark Sphere really makes her not balanceable because of what the increase in the spheres timing implies, and I think that none of us want that. I am not one of those who cries for buffs whenever his champion is weak because honestly, I may be wrong but whatever, I believe that if a champion is relatively weak and only one-tricks or hardcore mains can effectively play them it's better. But for real now, Syndra's current state is just a joke, and because a couple of pros manage to get one or two good games it doesn't mean she is in a good state, and all of those problems come from what happened during the Mid Season Mage Update back in Season 6, when her kit has been completely twisted in favor of "making her more accessible", but that's not what she was meant to be, and we all know what happened after that. So basically a revert on her Dark Sphere passive would be perfect, or even something new that isn't just a lazy increase on her spheres uptime, because it also makes her less engaging to play, as much as I love her and could legitimately just play her all day every day.

I somewhere read an idea for a change of her Q-passive: Only Spheres that interact with the enemy get the longer duration What do you think?

100% agree. I don't see why they don't revert the Q passive. They know that's what the majority of Syndra mains want, and they haven't said why they don't want to do it. They're just ignoring her.

Btw, I know it's probably just a typo, but her E base damage is 70, not 80.

It pains me to see one of my most favorite champions in this state, I still enjoy her from time to time but no matter how well I do there are just better picks. The over reliance on R to deal damage makes her scale really poorly into the mid and lategame.

honestly ive been thinking for a long while now that syndra could use a rework. i feel like she could very easily be made into a much more interesting and healthy champion and quite frankly her ult is a rather toxic ability (we've all been one shot by nothing but a syndra ult at some point). her design is outdated imo

They need to give her Q a stronger passive. +2 seconds is whatever to me because I don't depend on her 7 sphere ult. Why'd they even change W to get true damage as a passive? Can't they move W transcendence to Q transcendence then supplement the W radius increase back or something as the new transcendence? I do realize this means two different size-increasing transcendence (W and E) but it's an idea.

I also had a thought. Over each level in every skill, she gains 1/5 of the gain from maxed Transcendence. 1/3 for ult.

From lv 1,2,3,4,5, she'd get, for instance, 10/20/30/40/50 transcendence gainz.

The new Transcendent Q made the problem worse, but it isn't the main problem with Syndra's design in itself.

The main problem is that she is rewarded even for abilities that she missed. That's what makes her unbalanceable. Additional two seconds on spheres made it worse, but only because it made her more accessible (i.e. easier to keep spheres up without great timing). The core problem is exactly the same - enemies have too few options for denying Syndra's her burst, when compared to other mages, who actually need to hit their abilities.

Lowering the sphere duration will only hide the problem. But it won't solve it.

Er... what? I've watched PoE consistently long D kids with Syndra all season (Granted 1-3 cause team is bad) and just last week (I think) Bjerg straight up hard carried on her.

I mean she's clearly viable? I understand the focus on R might not always feel good but laning against her when her Q was strong was oppressive.

That's Bjerg and LCS coordinated teams

LOL up until 7.11 she was considered broken with everyone in LCS one shotting squishys with the press of a button. They finally reduced the AoE effect range on her W to make her less oppressive in lane.

The only change she has received since then was an ability power shift from her Q to E.

Syndra is fine. Nothing has changed damage wise except you can't throw a sphere anywhere midlane and it hit your opponent.

Changes to her numbers wasn't all that went through, hence the OP also pointed out that a meta shift played a part.

As i see it, Syndra relies on having a AP number or a snowball that doesn't quite happen anymore, along with the nerfs to her W radius as well as ulti cooldown at 7,1.

She was strong and the meta favored her so she didnt collapse immediately.....she never was gutted so to write, but old things have built up.

Now you basically have to invest as much time as OP has to even succeed on her generally, which is a bit depressing, its not really funny when a lot of champs are basically only playable at a extremely high level due to extreme requirements.

If we are going to protest this kinda thing happening on other champs we might as well do it on her as well, least others follow soon after once the pro´s decide they need something stronger.

Hey! As a Syndra main since preseason 6, I've seen her go through many changes: her initial max rank W upgrade where she gets a stronger slow, then the 6.9 rework which kinda just broke her with the triple ball grab, then the 20% true damage on W upgrade.

Here are some of my thoughts on Syndra: The champion: Perfect. Her identity imo is a long range burst mage; she commands her balls to do things for her. In game she plays out like a very bursty immobile Azir; while she puts out her initial damage like every other burst mage, she can still follow up with some DPS in the form of her Q's and frequent W's and E's. Her DPS is decent for a mage.

Passive: It's fine. However her Q passive and R passive need changes. The Q ones I'll be explaining below, but her R upgrade feels extremely lackluster (you reach level 16 and you get... 75 more range on your ult?)

Q: This needs more DPS. Don't change the base damage or ratios though: I think having her Q passive upgrade reverted to her old one where Q does more damage to champions would be good. That way her waveclear potential stays the same and she doesn't end up outclassing other mids with strong waveclear.

Another upgrade could make her do x% more damage to a champion if she hits them with her Q. Essentially just amps up her DPS in both skirmishes and large teamfights, so she is an active threat to the enemy team.

W: Feels very good to use. I like this spell, but in Syndra's current kit there is no way to improve it except maybe reverting the AOE nerf that was done to her a while ago.

E: Also a nice spell. I like how I'm given a choice of maxing W or E (W for more damage, but E for more self peel with a lower cooldown and a wider AoE). No changes should be done here.

R: Her ult is... kind of lackluster now. It feels like it does less damage than it's supposed to sometimes, and has some really weird interactions. Something like a Cait or Zed ult gets reset if the target dies before the channel finishes, but if Syndra even clicks R and the target dies, the ult is put on full CD. That's it. The first ball doesn't even get to fly to the target. If possible, at least try to make it less restrictive (give her ult more opportunities to get reset if say, the target dies before the 1st ball hits, or maybe even reward good Syndra players for stacking 7 ball ults (assuming the Q is no longer a 8 second duration)

That's all I wanted to say. I hope you can take a look at these ideas as well as other Syndra mains ideas, since we are really passionate about our champion and want to see her viable again :)

Thank you, -- Syndragami, 300k Syndra main

As long as syndra can miss all her skillshot and nearly 100-0 me with ult alone at early levels then no buffs for her. She needs her ultimate to be reworked. In mid game her qwe can 100-0 someone and then ult to oneshot another. This is dumb.
