A serious question to the "live design team".

Are you ever going to openly talk with us about the last 3 seasons' questionable balance choices and blatantly missed rework marks? A quick recap, to make myself clear.

-MYMU, mages update: failed. Most of its changes were reverted or reworked a second/third time. You didn't try to reach for us to understand what went wrong and what to improve. -Assassins update, failed. Lethality was originally created for a purpose which doesn't exist anymore. Leblanc and Rengar were reverted, many others needed a lot of further work. You didn't try to reach for us to understand what went wrong and what to improve. -Mage items update: completely failed to reach the intended goals. You didn't try to reach for us to understand what went wrong and what to improve.

  • Zoe is a balance nightmare.
  • Pyke is extremely questionable.
  • Neeko (see above).
  • Kai'Sa (see above)
  • Irelia is a balance nightmare
  • Akali is a balance nightmare

Overall, it seems like you're unable to learn from your mistake or to communicate with your community in order to avoid critical mistakes. I just don't understand. So again:

Are you ever going to openly talk with us about the last 3 seasons' questionable balance choices and blatantly missed rework marks?

Sadly, as long as these "prestige" skins make them money they won't give a damn about the state of the game

The best we can hope for is some drastic change in china, game gets banned or they find something else to play

Don't worry guys damage creep will be fixed by adding 1-2 armor on runes :O [slayer-jinx-wink]

Cause look at your own thread first? You just called a bunch of things failures/“reasons don’t exist anymore” while being completely vague and generic and offer literally nothing of value.

Also you say things that are completely false “Riot never listens to the community” when they have high elo one tricks and other high elo players playtest new champs and reworks. “Never reach out”. They just made a 2 hour podcast with Scarra and QT on the state of ADCs.

Meddler responds to a bunch of comments on his weekly thoughts posts.

Just cause they ignore the rageposts and blatantly stupid posts like “why has every change in last 3 seasons suxxed explain plz” which is a leading question and has no real answer - doesn’t mean they ignore the community.

Every single class update was a colossal failure and every single champion either became OP and needed to be heavily nerfed, some needed to be straight up reverted and some did nothing to fix the issues the champions were facing and so remain just as were before.

Why would anyone want to reach out to a bunch of complaining, generally unskilled, players? The boards is a circlejerk, nothing more,

Riot listens to the bigger community like LCS Pro play. Forums and pbe forums and whatever league forum seems to miss riots attention every patch. Its mostly for reporting bugs, not balance. They have a special team they pay to test out the new stuff and give feedback on it.

PBE is just for bugs as well, even though we were told that they would accept and reply to all feedback regarding new skins, champions, items and more. See any riot replies in there?

Riot: (Makes a mistake in the shop) Riot: (Tries to fix it by reaching out to us) Us: "trash company EA piece of shiit wheres my free stuff permaban the 12 people who got the skin wheres my refund im going to quit the game"

Like, generally speaking, if there are like 5-7 champions with a consistent banrate of at least 30%, even after multiple nerfs, there has to be something off.

And the thing also is: you cant even play the champs yourself properly. About last week, I wanted to try Irelia (I used to play the old one a bit, and now after the nerfs I had hoped she would be banned+played less often) and in 5 games I played with friends (=my team never banned her) she always got banned by the enemy. Im not looking to play her anymore, even if it turned out that Im the greatest Irelia in the world, it does not seem worth investing time into a champ you usually just cant even pick...

Lethality was originally created for a purpose which doesn't exist anymore.

Care to explain this one ?

-Mage items update: completely failed to reach the intended goals.

This one needs a explanation aswell

I personally feel this is all Tencents fault catering to the Chinese audience for shorter games. But they wont admit that.

kargish1/12/2019, 1:09:30 PM2 votes

I can't speak for the rest of the assassins, but the Rengar mains had Riot August stuck to them for weeks like a symbiote to try and figure out how to make Rengar better design all around. Hence why he also received a handful of bug fixes this patch, they do communicate but usually on other platforms.

That'd be them admitting to not having a real plan for the game. That'd be them admitting they're out of touch with the player base.

I'm still waiting to see if Meddler found out if Xayah and Rakkan just happen to be better together than separated. Seems like a really hard thing to figure out so I wonder if the balance team ever got to that.

Zoe is fine, she is nor weak or broken, just annoying to play against which is fair. Akali is an easy fix, they just will not get their head out of their asses and do what is needed. Honestly, Irelia is hard, she either sucks or is overpowered depending on the player. Neeko, Kai'Sa, and Pyke fully agree, while also being a balance nightmare. But yeah, they need to step up their game.

You also forgot the ADC update, which went too far and is now coming back to its original state. Welcome to ADC Meta. YAY. T_T

They are shined on as these Pro Players using countless hours on the game, then make questionable buffs/nerfs. Either they are actively trying to piss off people or they are that stupid and need replacement, not as in fire them, but let some other people in the company take the wheel while they work on something different.

or

If what they say is true, with them being Pro Players and they work hours on end, then they need a long break from League to get back in gear. I mean, Riot actively disallow them to play for a month, letting the game be at a stalemate for that month to let their Balance Team Players charge up. I went one month not playing League, I was tilt free, mind clear, and could make the better decision in the game. The Balance Team are human too you know, they must be exhausted. But I could be wrong and they are just stupid.

Trust me, just because they took a Winter Break does not mean they did not play League. Riot should make a special month, where all Rioters are disallowed to play. That is what I would do if I found my Community annoyed with my Balance Team, give them a break to let them recharge.

Riot use to talk design stuff with the boards back on the old format of Riot Boards. These days, their design decisions are player independent. They answer to Tencent and Tencent only. Their goal right now is just keeping the game in the esports scene and popular in China. If you're like me, I suggest you get ready to leave or hope a new competitor rises.

Why can I upvote only once? Oof. This is so god damn true.

Kadexe1/14/2019, 3:04:48 AM1 votes

You could start by not asking loaded questions like that. Have you considered the possibility that Riot's happy with most of their new champion releases and reworks? Pyke has so far been pretty manageable with respect to how unique he is. Neeko has only been out for a few weeks. Kai'Sa's pretty close to being balanced, and work is being done on Akali to correct her problems. What's there to address? Zoe? Meddler's already said that she's being looked at for a mini-rework. Irelia? She's being nerfed.

Also, 3 seasons of questionable decisions? The examples you listed are all from the last year alone. Not 3 seasons.

-MYMU, mages update: failed. Most of its changes were reverted or reworked a second/third time. You didn't try to reach for us to understand what went wrong and what to improve.

That's not true at all. Only Malzahar needed any further reworking after the MYMU. https://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/featured/mid-season-magic

-Assassins update, failed. Lethality was originally created for a purpose which doesn't exist anymore. Leblanc and Rengar were reverted, many others needed a lot of further work. You didn't try to reach for us to understand what went wrong and what to improve.

They did, though? Many of the changes were reverted in response to player feedback.

-Mage items update: completely failed to reach the intended goals. You didn't try to reach for us to understand what went wrong and what to improve.

The intended goals were to make builds more varied than "rush morellonomicon or rod of ages on every mage" and to make mana budgeting important in mid-lategame. For the most part, they succeeded.

Modl Ryden l1/14/2019, 3:39:17 AM1 votes

Both the Assassins and Mid-year-mage updates were done in order to add some complexity to what was though as linear champions. This means that assassins were given external mechanics (relying on an object that has very the player has some influence over) in order to pad their insta-bursts.

Mages, such as Brand, were given an extra layer of complexity, by adding the 3 stack mechanic to further his explosive and 'fire-spready' nature. They gave Zyra a new passive to help further her 'flourish' with more than just the 2 to 4 plants you could pop out. Etc, etc.

The Mage item update was to streamline build paths for all mages. EVERYONE wanted to be able to play their favorite champs where they can 1) spam abilities and 2) 1 shot at a high frequency. To achieve this, Morellonomicon was slated and split between the three Lost Chapter items you have today.

The assassins item updates were also a way to complement most assassins new abilities and mechanics by having them rely on the new stat, Lethality. Not only did it make them strong for building lethality, it also removed one of the most important items from assassins, the Brutilizer. Lethality was also meant as a means to nerf armor pen, for those who stacked as many as they could early game. Armor pen is great early game, but if the player hadn't built plenty of AD, the armor pen loses a lot of value. Lethality set a base line for how much damage any player could expect from an assassin (obviously a fuck ton) but it also meant that assassins couldn't surprise their target with a flat 30 armor pen during level 4 all-ins when their target build a measly 10 armor.
