Riot solved the free to play game genre?
Before, free to play games were frowned upon because at some point it became unfair because you would have to pay to get better gear and so forth. This was unfair to those who did not pay and it was not a matter of skill that made you a good player, but a matter of paying, which took away from the gaming experience pvp wise
League was my first truly fair free to play game. It was not only fair and free, but it really put together everything I would want from a game. I loved WOW, but hated that you were force to play the game to progress in pvp.
With LOL its all about pvp, no PVE. I also wanted to play a game that had diablo level of customization skill wise and tactical gameplay. LOL does this. While you can't create champ kits, with over 100 champs, you don't need to.
This allows you to just focus on a champ kit and maining that champ. I've never played a game where I would want to pay for a skin, but after mastering a champ, you more than happy to part with you cash to buy a skin. I't like you this is your baby and ur spending doe on it.
Thanks you riot, for such an innovative step in the gaming experience.
