"Buy a MR resist item to counter Zed ! "

When people will understand this is just stupid? QSS gives NO STATS against him, except the active. To buy one and still kill him, you need to be snowballing, which means you have 0 chances against him as a melee if you didn't snowball against him, which is hard, because he will be spamming that BS shadow and shuriken. You CAN'T fight him if he ulted you, you can't dodge his ult as a melee most of the times. A champion that is so "easy" to counter, but takes A LOT of money to do so, is just fucking stupid. And them, he can just focus someone else.

Here's how to beat Zed. Wait until he ults. CC him. Walk away. Now that his ult is burned, go to town on him. He's useless without his ult unless you fed him all game because you're too busy bitching instead of playing.

the Anarchit3cht7 votes

To further this, his shuriken is a very short range that appears deceptively longer due to his shadow. But if he has to throw his shadow just to hit you with a single shuriken he's not good at Zed and that's when you go in on him pre six. He has mobility, but it's tied to his shadow, if he just used it to launch an attack he can't use it to escape. Don't be stupid. You're probably one of those people that lets the enemy get a full combo on them and then just runs away even though they are now on CD and their damage potential is negligible. You have to actually hit him back or you won't ever win.

his shuriken CD is like 5 seconds. WIth some CDR, 4 sec. He will have most of his damage up every 4 seconds. He can farm safely, while I can't as rengar. If he ults, i can't disengage. If I engage him, shadow away. If i try to farm, q on my face. If I ult him, he ults me. Nothing can be done against zed in most matchups. He does needs fucking nerfs.

1.) His shuriken CD is 6 seconds at all ranks. It falls just under 4 seconds with MAX CDR. If he has max cdr he has no damage unless it's late game and he's full build. Now, most Zeds will build something like a brutalizer which offers 10% CDR. That makes his Q roughly on a 5 and 1/2 second CD. At rank 2, your Q CD matches his and that's not even considering any CDR you have built.

He will not have most of his damage up every 4 seconds because most of his damage relies on his Shadow which has an 18 second cool down at first rank and 14 seconds at max rank. Even with max cdr, that's still around 9 seconds on his shadow. If he hits you with an E, the CD of his shadow is reduced by two seconds.~7 seconds.

I don't know if you're bad at math or just making up numbers to exaggerate your case. Either way, you're still wrong. Plus on top of the low cooldown for your Q, when you hit max Ferocity your CD is essentially reset because it is counted as a separate ability.

2.) If he ults, build max Ferocity(if you know how to play Rengar you should always be hovering around 3-4 anyway) and hit him with an Empowered Bola, rooting him in place. Walk away. Congrats, you just successfully disengaged. Just as the snare is about to end, you can even hit him with a regular bola to apply a slow further increasing the already strong likelihood that you have made a successful disengage. Alternatively, you could try, as he is ulting you, to run into a bush so that you can jump onto a minion and create a sizeable distance between you two. Follow that up with a Bola.

3.) When you go to engage on him, make sure you have 3-4 ferocity. When he shadows away, hit him with an empowered bola and catch back up. Then burst him down. He just wasted a huge part of his damage trying to escape and caught him with a root. He can't go back to his shadow a second time and unless he has ult he has no way to escape. Ideally, you'd be doing all this while you also pressed R so that you can get another round of burst + a gap clear.

4.) Dodge. If you can't dodge a skill shot then Zed is the least of your worries.

5.) This should be the other way around, tbh. If he ults you and then you ult... guess what? You're invisible. He can't fight you. As a result his death mark does little damage and he wasted everything trying to instagib you while you have the perfect leap from invisibility to engage on him with, and crazy sustain between your W heal and the atkspd increase of your q to proc more life steal.

I can't say for certain, but I'm also willing to bet that Zed would wait for you to blow your CDs and then engage on you when you're helpless. You need to think about what's going on as well. You can't just hope to win because you have stronger abilities or something. The strongest abilities in the game are worthless if you aren't intelligent enough to use them.

EDIT: Oh, and this I forgot about... but his Q does significantly reduced damage as it passes through multiple targets ( a la your minions) so it's really your fault if you're positioned so poorly that he can get a clean shot off every time.

^^ to add to that zed's poke probably won't mean much considering the sustain rengar has as well.

You are Rengar. You know who else has a majority of their damage up really quickly? You. You know who actually can farm in relative safety assuming you're top? You, because you're using the bushes. Wait for zed to blow his shadow, dodge the shurikens because you don't suck, walk into that bush, and jump on him, double q him because you should have two or more ferocity and you have more abilities than Q. If you're mid and not top, never play league again

That's irrelevant. If he can beat you because he knows how to throw a poke skill it doesn't matter if he is standing an inch from your face you're probably incapable of killing him.

BiZeBoY2 votes

no he cant beat me - it just gives no room for counter play on paper - he can play like blitz all day and keep trying to Q hoping for damage till he actually hits - its more on an rng level bc like i said - THERES NO COUNTER PLAY - the range he can throw from a safe distance is absurd you might just have to be xerath to hit him - its not about dodging the q its the fact that he is so far away when he does it that its free

the Anarchit3cht3 votes

Dodge, engage. It's not that hard. Any champion with a gap closer can easily do it. Any champion without a gap closer can still manage to do it if you have half a brain. And if you can't engage on him? Zone him out and force him from his farm. You'll win when you get a gold and experience advantage. If he doesn't back off... give him a good thumping, he has two skills on cool down because he just missed his poke. If he jumps to his shadow, you're probably behind it and now you have him pinned between yourself and your turret.

So, while playing Mordekaiser, how would you engage on a zed?

Aside from that, for a lot of champs it's impossible to zone a Zed out of farm, which is most people's problem with him. I am not sure if he is overpowered, but the reason he can at least seem overpowered is that he is way too safe, most assassins are feast or famine, meanwhile (a good) Zed is feast or do fine.

why the fuck are you playing morde top

It was hypothetical cause he said any champion without a gapcloser, there also seems to be some confusion as the second part of my post had nothing to do with Mordekaiser but was a more serious contribution to the thread. Aside from that Morde does well vs some toplaners/gets destroyed by some mid champs. Morde vs Zed is more likely to happen mid though, not sure why you thought I meant Morde top.

Enraged Piglet1 votes

there's a reason people don't play mord. But in this case doesn't mord have shield or sustain? and good poke and waveclear forcing zed to farm with his Q meaning he isn't hitting you with it and even if he does you sustain it and he's missing farm.

the Anarchit3cht2 votes

No you walk away. Zed is a melee champion with 1 ranged skill and 1 gap closer. Both have a small range.

Kowe The Ewok10 votes

Bullshit. He's one of the champions who can reach you from one of the furthest rannged ingame.

W+Q can reach 1450 range. That's more than xerath has... And without considering that he can W R Q which extend his range to hilarious amounts.

Right after that he can teleport back a whole screen....

the Anarchit3cht3 votes

He can only teleport back a whole screen if you've made him clear that much distance. When he jumps on you sit on his face and he wont go anywhere. That being said, he only access to that range should he use both of his skills together. He can't both use his shadow to poke you and to escape. He has to choose one or the other. Not to mention the damage of his q is reduced by 40% if it hits anything else before it hits you. Plus its fairly easy to dodge.

Or you could always build a randuins and he's not going to kill you unless you just literally sit there and let him.

Kowe The Ewok12 votes

Fairly decent to dodge? A decent Zed will place his shadow right on your freaking head. It's rather "no way to miss".

But I get it, people like to abuse him for freelo. I don't judge you for it. Just saying one day Riot will balance him and then you're at an Elo where you actually have to play well instead of just using what is horribly op atm.

trexmixG2 votes

Do you understand how LoL works....

There's no such thing as Freelo. Even if you are playing a "no skill" champ, which zed is not, it takes skill to carry games and win. come on man. League is a team game. It can't be won by one "OP" champ.

Kowe The Ewok8 votes

LoL is a teamgame, but there occasionally appear champions which completely destroy their enemies in an inappropriate manner. E.g. a Zed who lost his lane and is 0-4 behind can still 100-0 a freaking Pantheon with block and stun UNDER A TOWER.

http://youtu.be/nbCqWMIT-Pk?t=57s

These are champions which manage to completely destroy their enemies, even when being continiously outplayed - simply because their damage, mobility and ability to avoid damage is of the God damn charts.

Sure, WW was a worse offender since he required 0 skill (which means more players were able to abuse him). But if a champion is as broken (or worse) in the hands of fewer people doesn't suddenly make his broken-ness disappear.

If balancing was done depending on worst case scenario's they'ld have to nerf Garen since he has none...

trexmixG1 votes

this is so blindingly false. Zed is a good champ, yes... but he takes a lot of skill to play and compared to someone like LB or Yi, his damage output really isnt that great.

Kowe The Ewok6 votes

If you clicked the video you would have seen an 0:4 Zed killing a 2:1 FULL HEALTH Pantheon under a turret - and you still dare to say his damage is bad?

"Takes a lot of skill to play." He doesn't even take half as much skill as an Ezreal would.

There is no real punishment for him when missing with his energy sustain. Even if he fails horribly he still has one of the best AoE waveclears.

If set up with his W his Q and E become undodgeable, no skill needed.

trexmixG1 votes

Setting up the W and Q and E do take skill. Also, the W is pretty damn easy to dodge IMO.

Kowe The Ewok1 votes

? all skill his W takes consist on making 2 steps forward when your opponent goes for a lasthit.

trexmixG2 votes

His w is on an eighteen second cooldown. If you only last hit every eighteen seconds, then I can't help you.

Mr Wright II1 votes

You've never zed

Enraged Piglet1 votes

havern't watched it but your talking about the one fo the best mid laners in the world who does this on about every champion he plays. I've seen him feed and then get a double kill on his enemy and jungler when they gank on riven. He constantly makes plays.

Also the panth didn't have any armor so if an all ad assasin hits you with all of his abilities plus cutlass + ignite and mayby a passive hit or 2 then your dead. Also the zed had 2 assists also the zed had the second most farm in the game. and despite all of what your saying I'd be suprised if you could do anything like that with 100 games played in a row as zed.

Also he used W and missed Q + E combo waiting for his cooldowns and then pantheon walks right next to his shadown and so faker goes to his shadow hits him to get rid of pantheon shield then ults before tower switches agro to the zed. then the zed gets stunned by the pantheon and so the zed uses his ignite + cutlass then faker hits a Q with his main champion and ult shadow and hits an E on him and then he AA's for the kill then goes out of tower range and escapes.

Also it's not like the pantheon flashed or if he wasn't a jungler and had ignite instead of smite or just sidestepped one of zed's abilities then zed would not be able to make that play. The zed W was down this entire fight he only used it to get into range before AA'ing once and ulting while his other cd's came up and then the W disappeared.

trexmixG1 votes

No, but just saying that Zed takes more skill and his damage output isn't as good unless hes super ahead.

Lt Cuddles1 votes

Ah, not that much more, but you at least have to look at the guy you want to kill. XD

Delioth2 votes

I like how you cite one of the best players in the world as an example of an op champ. We're talking about the same level of play that can use any practiced champion effectively- including the rather underused Alistar and Zilean having a near 100% pick/ban rate at Worlds.

At the same time, check gold levels and the current builds. it's not an 0/4/0 Zed with little farm, it's an 0/4/2 Zed with 133 farm vs a 2/1/5 Pantheon with 62 farm. When math works out, 15 cs is about worth a kill and an assist is worth 1/2 a kill. So effective gold from kills+farm is around 9+1=10 kills of gp for Zed, and 4+2+2.5=8.5 kills of gp for Pantheon. Similarly, Zed has defenses against much of Pantheon's stun's damage in his hexdrinker, as well as defense from Pantheon's auto's from his Doran's shield. Zed's also got some lifesteal from his Doran's Blade and Cutlass. Opposing this, Pantheon has no armor to defend against Zed's purely physical damage (minus a bit from his passive) and no lifesteal or regen. Actually, no tanky items at all other than Merc treads. So it's a glass cannon Pantheon vs a much more balanced Zed build, while Zed is technically ahead in gold by about a full kill. That's a situation stacked against Pantheon. Also, Zed managed to evade the first tower shot or two by using his ult before a shot could fire on him.

Take a look at how the situation is stacked before you cite something as a reason why a champion as OP.

Even if he's one of teh best players he still is 0-4 at that point and 100-0's an enemy.

That fact that a champion that far behind is capeable of such a thing is broken enough, regardless of who is using him.

It simply means that winning against this champion in lane is meaningless, he can destroy you regardless of how horribly bad he has been played that game.

Out of 120 champions there is not even one who can do something similiar, not even Fizz.

The sad part is that he has abolutely no downside for this level of power.

  • No man required = infinite lane sustain
  • Invincibility in his kit
  • Several dash
  • He isn't even limited to damaging a single target, his abilities are freaking AoE

How is that a personal attack? You're attempting to prove that Zed is over powered but you're ignoring many factors. It's either intentional or out of ignorance. You also shouldn't even go there about that. You basically opened up your "argument" with(and this is a paraphrase) "You play OP champs because you're bad and when they balance them you're fucked." Quit being silly, won't you? If you want to know what's sad, it's a person who is faced with a challenge and when offered advice on how to overcome that challenge brushes it off as nonsense because they're--for whatever reason--incapable of fathoming the idea that their problem isn't as bad as they are making it out to be.

1.) 0-4 with a more than ample CS that makes up for his lack of kills. So much so that he actually possesses a gold LEAD over his target. 2.) He isn't the only manaless champion lol. This is a very invalid point. Are you suggesting that Garen(who arguably as the strongest sustain in the game), Gnar(who has a massive movspd steroid, a slow, crazy CC on form change, a dash), Akali(who has much stronger dashes), Kennen(who has much stronger AOE nuke potential), Shen(who has MUCH better sustain), Riven(great damage negation/mobility), etc are also "OP" 3.) It's not invincibility. It's untargetability. DOT effects can still kill him. And on top of that it lasts less than 1 second. 4.) He has two dashes. One is short range and the other is tied to his ultimate. His dashes also move him to a fixed location. The first one, his W has a small to moderate range depending on him walking away from it. He can't exactly max range W in a clutch situation like dodging a skill shot or fleeing a chasing enemy. EDIT: I guess three technically if you count him ulting in but in that regard(like all his dashes) you know EXACTLY where he is going and this could often be used against him if you can move to teammates, a turret, an aoe damage field(rumble ulti etc)

1&2: because a garen spin doesn't decimate farm. or a gnar rang on a full wave and then basic attacks to get off his w. or an akali q+e.

3: how so? dot effects can still kill him, it lasts for a MUCH shorter duration.

4: sure, but they are also fixed. if he dives you on his tower and your jungler comes up he can't return to his shadow and he can't dash out the other side because HE MUST return to his shadow if he wants to make use of his dash but if he does that he's in the jaws of your jungler.

I guess challenger players must be "real geniuses" as you say it. Your arrogance... Just wow.... Deny what is right in front of your eyes.

Abuse Zed as long as you can. Having reached a 66.44% banrate in korea Riot can't wait much longer to finally taking the appropriate steps. Have fun getting crushed when you have to pick up a champion who actually requires skill.

I'd also like to reiterate that I do not play Zed nor am I even good with him.

Picking what's OP is a subset of "playing well".
