Being Support is Not an Excuse to End a Match With Double Digit Deaths

I play support...a lot...like...A LOT.

Yuumi, Rakan, Pyke, Leona, and sometimes even Thresh.

And I manage to keep my death count relatively low in every match while also providing what I can for the team. There are instances in which I will allow my champion to die to save a team carry, but only if I am confident the sacrifice is needed and doing so will ensure the survival of said carry.

I don't take my allies jumping into every bad scenario as an open invitation to take a flying leap off a bridge right alongside them, okay?!

And I sometimes receive hate for it. I've been called a coward for it. I've been told I suck for it. But I really don't think so...because I know what my champions can and cannot accomplish. I am not perfect at doing those things, but I am familiar enough to know when trying to do something will absolutely result in failure. And I avoid doing those things. And because of that, I don't end my matches in double digit deaths.

By staying alive for as long as possible, I ensure that my team almost always has at least one living ally on the map so that something of value can be done even if it's something small like clearing a wave of minions to safeguard turrets while I wait for allies to re-spawn or placing down vision at key points in the jungle. I ensure that I am ready and able to assist allies in securing kills and objectives provided that it is the right opportunity to do just that.

Supports should not be treated as or played as meat shields for the rest of the team so that allies can do whatever the hell they want whenever the hell they feel like doing it. They should be held as accountable as any other player on the team for the mistakes made on their part. Not every death is a mistake, but most of them are just that, mistakes. And being a support does not automatically excuse any player from that.

True.

I typically average 3 deaths on a caster and 5 for a tank. Support SHOULD be the person with the least deaths on the team.

Unless you are genuinely a dumb ass, there is no reason why you should be the center of attention for the enemy team.

Also, high death games on my end are usually a result of the rest of my team being 0-10.

what about like leona where her whole objective is to dive into everyone and get as much cc as possible shes going to die alot

Her "whole objective" is definitely not to dive into everyone.

Her "whole objective" (in my opinion; and put VERY briefly) is to catch as many people as she can with her ult and subdue the carries.

And besides, her "whole objective" changes from game to game.

That's true of anyone, but the fact remains that as a role, a tank's primary job is to absorb hurt. You team is counting on you to take most of the punishment. If you back off too fast, you're risking one or more of your carries getting caught out. In a pickup game with strangers, the tank doesn't set the pace. The tank holds the line until everyone else has started to retreat.

actually with yuumi your deaths are kinda outta your control. due to if your adc calls you AFK and useless if your trying everything in your power to keep them alive. during laning of course

I feel like, most of the time whenever I do well at supporting other lanes int as hard as they can. And most of most of the time they will look down bot lane and blame the ADC and Support. Then every once in a few games the ADC will proceed to blame support.

Support is getting blamed no matter the outcome of their performance. Even if the Support is 13/2/27, most of the time you can't really carry the team when things collapse. That's pretty much why not everyone likes to support because most of the time you can't do anything. Unless you are playing something like Pyke or champions that deal damage more than supporting, you still have a hard time carrying unless the enemy team decides to throw the game

It is if you have a ton of assists. Especially if you're a tank. If you died to get four of your teammates out alive, you did your job. Tanks are the first one into the fight and the last one out.

Damage meta dying has more to do with the enemy team pick/assassin champs. Do you want a cookie for not dying on dash mobility champions?

Leona has the highest average deaths per game out of every champion at an average of 7.4. So, in a bad game i think its okay to be in double digits with certain "all-in" champs.

Support is forced to face check in order to put wards down if the team isn't helping with vision. There are games where the Support's hand is forced if the Support is the only one who cares whether or not the enemy team is on baron. Double digit deaths are very likely in this scenario especially if the team is already behind.

The Support can't just not check.. Otherwise, you are just sitting around and waiting to lose the game for no reason when you could just ff to save time.

Most of the players, who says that you're a coward/bad player because you didn't give the opponents free kill, are just bad players. If you're playing tank supports, you're expected to be the front-line to take all the damage-but that also doesn't mean that other players can blindly walk into traps or position themselves so bad and blame it on you not following. Always ask your team mates to ward(they may not ward mostly), ping a lot (they may not listen mostly) and explain why you didn't give the free kill (they may not understand that giving free gold to opponent is bad). I think it is better for you to play supports like Pyke, Lux, Brand, Zyra more; I am not saying Yuumi, Thresh, Rakan are bad-but if you get bad adc, your lane will be lost automatically.

I disagree heavily. I play hook or disruptors a lot like Thresh or Rakan and while I do manage a lot of times to catch someone out for the team. Support defenses and item builds are just so insanely squishy it's ridiculous.

I remember building full tank as Thresh and got two shot by a Caitlyn even though both of our teams were pretty even into late game. Nonetheless even though I got two shot I pulled into the team got many flays, put my cage into their entire team, and bought my adc enough time to clean up the fight.

Yes I die a lot, but a lot of the time it's setting up a really good team fight for my team mates to work off of. If anything supports really need better base stats if their job is to dive into the enemy team and get a fight started because right now they're being blown up as soon as they go withing two feet.
