Can orianna be less of a bully?

Succubús GF··58 votes·3,207 views

Like she has been in such a good spot since her release. And I already know I'm gonna get "its bc shes perfectly balanced!1!1!!1" Well, no she isn't. Her cooldowns are relatively short. Especially q, probably best zoning tool in the game. Her damage is really a bit oppressive early. Especially since most oriannas run ghost or barrier it makes killing her even harder. Maybe we can just tone down her early?

Didn't she have a weaker early game in the past because of mana issues? Perhaps that is where they need to make some changes.

She still has mana issues, kind of.

W uses a LOT of mana early. Normally I don't use this spell unless thunderlords is up, because otherwise I'll run myself oom. One exception: if I hit lvl 2 when they're at lvl 1, W will chunk them hard, so I'll use it then. This is a pretty common scenario because of Ori's strong lvl 1.

In summary, don't let her level 2 W cheese.

Nerf her mana costs.

i see oris run oom a ton until they buy this fucking itemitem 3802 that makes her able to just spam everything with nothing to stop her

The problem is Lost Chapter.

it should of remained lost

Maddened King 5 votes

You realise throughout League mages have always had a Mana Regen item to go for. item 3802 item 3028 Mana manipulator item 1056 . So no, the problem is not Lost Chapter, the problem is there is no problem and you guys are fussing over something that isn't broken.

ForgiveColour1 votes

did you just compared pre mage item rework chalice to lost chapter and double dorans? LUL

Maddened King 3 votes

Yes because my point was that League has always had a Mana regen item for Mid laners. Lost is that item right now.

ForgiveColour1 votes

Yeah they both are regen item except for the fact that chalice doesnt make you a manaless champ like lost chapter does

NineTailedMystic3 votes

how the fuck would you ever run out of mana with a chalice/grail

Catastrop7 votes

I think the issue with Ori is that she benefited way more from the MYMU than most other mages. With the introduction of mana book her mana costs became pretty much non existent. This coupled with the fact that CDR is so prevalent across itemization in general, her utility got a massive boost since like every other mage she didn't get her numbers tuned to account for the excess stats. So she now gets incredible uptime on her utility while doing above average damage at a very steady pace thanks to her rather low CDs.

Crede7776 votes

I play a lot of Orianna. Her level 1 E grants her passive magic resist and armor. Active it gives her a shield. Her passive amps up bonus magic damage on auto attacks. That plus thunderlords means she can pretty much win any level 1 trade.

I do too, level 7 with about 90-100k mast. points and she is really just a bit too good right now

Dreadlocks11 votes

Or maybe everyone else is just a little worse?

It isn't that. She's been strong since release. She doesn't have a weak point in the game really

Isn't she fairly bad against Anivia Xer and malz though'?

I was under the impression that they usually steamroll her kinda hard.

And she was perfectly balanced, when compared to everyone else for the longest time.

However, champs have been nerfed and reworked while Ori remained constant, it has only some time ago caused her to gradually shine more and more, especially since others keep being nerfed from time to time.

I don't think Anivia has any bad match ups lol.

In general, long range mages screw Anivia the hardest. Particularly Xerath. It's so hard to do anything in a Xerath lane. Then, there's a few other assorted bad or bad-ish matchups. All this from experience (rank 6 Anivia, been playing her on and off since I was learning the game -- she was my first main, back in S3).

Gangplank is a pretty bad matchup. He can shove just as easily as you, has more global pressure, scales differently but just as well (or better?). And on top of that, he can be K from your stun so you can't fish for q's and expect to get in range for an E follow-up, and his barrel combo outranges you in lane (and, you're anivia, good luck beating him on the aa timing). Luckily GP mid is not too common.

Kat is hard pre-6 because she can Q poke you for free every time; if you Q, she jumps on you and you can't retaliate. If you don't, you do no dmg. Still wouldn't call it bad because you can take tele and just shove post-6, especially if your jg gives you blue.

Fizz has a similar deal where you can't Q preemptively or he'll playful/trickster on you. Although, it is possible to stun him as he comes out of his Q and before he E's, if you double tap Q fast enough behind you.

Xerath I'll agree with but Anivia shits on GP most of the time if you can land the stun simply because of the E nuke. Good Anivias give me a fuckton of trouble in mid as GP because they will interrupt my movement path as Q flies towards me so I can't dodge it. I may be able to cleanse the CC but I'll eat a fully empowered E + aa + tld trade which will chunk me for 40% health or so. After sheen and a couple items it gets easier though. She enables ganks like crazy because of her wall.

Kat and fizz are super agitiating. Only saving grace is that if JG is nearby it's hard to all in you successfully due to your egg.

Not sure what elo you're in, but I was speaking from experience in silver through high gold (where I currently reside). I suppose at high elo, where Anivia can reliably pull off the wall pull into Q, it's a bit of a different lane. I think I still maintain that GP should have the edge, at least after first b, when you can start just shoving. At that point it should be just a farm lane, or Anivia is playing super aggro and is open to ganks, or one of you is outclassed.

edit: It's way too late and my English is... has 5 words in my vocabulary, lol

GayFluffyUnicorn2 votes

Where does that myth come from that GP can "just shove" easily. With tri he can start to shove, yes but with sheen alone you are so early in you barely get the barrel recharges to actually "shove" not too forget that midlaners pay attention to your barrels and just destroy them if your timing sucks. That said, anivia is not a fun matchup for GP. Hell anivia isn't fun for anyone tbh. Her Q isn't that easy to dodge and even if you W cleanse the stun half your mana and hp is gone anyways, if she doesn't want to all in you would never W the stun as you lose way too much healing out of it.

Maddened King 2 votes

Kassadin shits on her because he can Q cancel her Ulti and any champion that can siege like Taliyah Velkoz Malzahar Ziggs etc can continue to be oppressive after level 6 since they can poke her down while she stays in range to R the minion wave.

I mean, it's pretty common for mages to be strong throughout the entire game without a very noticeable weak spot.. This doesn't apply to just Orianna.

The majority of mages have a weakness. Granted, there are a few that that this doesn't apply to, however it should apply. Her q is 40 mana for a 4 second cooldown. Karthus's early game is actually really strong.. Lissandra is strongest early and honestly is only weak rn because of how many nerfs due to pro play Cassio has some good cheese potential early, but yeah is gated by mana Kassadin just needs to get past the first few levels, hardly a "mage" Vlad is a battle mage and is hard to beat out of lane given his sustain Azir is in the gutter right now.. Chembaron Yamada2 votes

While you are technically right that Ahri falls off late, since her winrate is dropping.... The main point are mages which are strong at every phase of the game.

50% winrate is still strong. Therefore Ahri has no weak point in the game. She just goes from "insanely strong early" to "slightly above average in late".

Tbh, the chart you provided doesn't really give proper data. It doesn't show numbers and it ends at 50 minutes, while at 45 minutes she is even above 51% winrate.

It isn't easy to interpret this data, maybe the sample size for that time stamp is even just too small to give proper information? And looking at the data provided by Lolalytics, it says that Ahri has a winrate of above 50% for games lasting 40+ minutes. That includes the very late game as well.....

I don't want to attack you, but the analysis of the data shows that Ahri pretty much is strong at every phase of the game. That is simply what the given data is telling us. Her team fighting potential isn't great as you pointed out compared to other mages. But she is still able to maintain a positive winrate in this stage of the game.

He does not have a bad early. It is just no one knows how to play him Early. He, in fact, can have on of the most oppressive laning phases in the game but people want to farm bot with him instead of harass.

Lissandra has to pay attention to mana early

Just like Ori, Ori has to pay attention to mana. Her W and E will drain her out of mana before Lost quite easily.

Cassiopeia literally goes oom in 3 seconds at levels 1-5

No one scales like her and can all in as hard as her. Her all in is also worth all the mana you throw away because it usually means 2 health pots and a back. If you are Eing a target without poison, you are just a bad Cass.

Kassadin Mana problems high scooldowns

His W gives him mana back and his Q, E and R cost barely any mana to use. He is also one of the strongest champions in mid right now.

Anyways, the other champs you listed are niche or garbage champions. Orianna is fine in terms of her kit and damage. She doesn't need nerfs nor buffs as she is fine. She is not oppressive to a laner who can match trades which should be almost every meta pick. It sounds to me like you are just too passive in lane if you are being oppressed by Orianna.

Azir isn't bad late game for 1, and for 2 Annie is complete garbage because much like Morgana, just not nearly as bad for her, Annie is a champion that RELIES on having a summoner spell up or for her opponent to fall asleep and let her run at them and kill them. Annie is complete trash because of her range. She also does fall off because she can get kited very easily due to her range being nonexistent. Also early-mid game no items really are good for her except Morellos but then you trade a lot of damage for health that she honestly needs because she has such short range that she needs to walk at you to get into range for. RoA is an option but RoA sucks on everyone except for Kass and maybe Swain but Swain has more options. -Sad Annie player

By buying those items you lose out on a lot of damage, magic pen which you kinda need ya know to do damage? Also mobis are trash on everyone except for most junglers and supports. I'd love to know where Annie has a 52% wr that isn't silver or bronze. Edit: I'd also like to say that RoA is not a good item right now unless you're Kass or Swain~

Succubús GF1 votes

Ludens is 100 ap, one of the highest ap giving item. Mobis are a really good engage tool when ahead, I can literally walk down the river to bot and hit them with tibbers before they can flash away.. I prefer roa right now because there are a few matchups where annie needs to be tanky. Its clearly not trash if annie bot, a otp challenger annie player builds it

I agree with this, her Q feels really really oppressive especially if the enemy Ori knows to not spam it until level 3ish.

DoktorKaiser6 votes

Yes she was almost always good ever since her release and that is because she is perfectly designed, not balanced, designed. No champion is ever perfectly balanced because balance is like a wheel, it spins, now LB is op, now Ahri and now Ori. Tomorrow it will be somebody else. Unless you are Lee Sin of course then you are balancing on top of the wheel for 6 years but thats another story. Anyway, yes she is a bit too powerful early game because she needs to be that late game powerhouse and its a bit bullshit that she can also harass early this hard. Her mana costs got buffed for no reason so that makes her more forgiving, assassins were all nerfed so they cant shit on her any more. Her early game needs some numbers nerf, but still if I had to choose between a late game champ being very strong in lane, I would always choose Ori who has tons of counterplay rather than tumor like Fiora, just saying.

Edit - now looking at the comments, I am glad that most people understand that her pathetic mana cost and the existence of item 3802 is the main problem and not her kit which is 100% true

So strange that a zone control mage has"the best zoning tool of the game" (zyra seeds would be better if she wasn't a terrible pick in mid). Also mindlessly spam q is going to leave her oom very quickly before lost chapter and after many midlaners outdamage her. Honestly they keep nerfing all midlaners and the best is always the one who didn't got nerfs. Viktor was nerfed anivia was nerfed cassio was nerfed syndra was broken and then nerfed talyiah was nerfed even before people could learn to play her at her full potential in lower elos then dia aurelion was nerfed karma and lulu got pushed into support role zyra was nerfed into support and same for brand velkoz is rarely seen mid after mymu . . Last one was Ahri that had only ONE problem but they refused to acknowledge it and just nerfed her damage.. Annie is indirectly nerfed by the rilay nerfs. Malz is history by now with what happened to him.. Ziggs was broken asf with the tower thing and got nerfed. Azir is in the gutter waiting for his rework and lissandra got repeatedly nerfed long time ago. Am I forgotting someone?

Succubús GF1 votes

I don't think she was meant solely for zoning. Also shes a disruptor https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/developer-corner/3A5uuBw7-champion-subclass-list

So strange that a zone control mage has"the best zoning tool of the game Her q is 40 mana. Lost chapter is super cheap.

Also isn't malz op now? When was cass nerfed? Annie is also strong right now. A lot of these mages aren't bad right now. Just looking at how easy it is to bully with orianna and that isn't healthy because most mages have a clear weakness or bad part of game

LightIsMyPath3 votes

Isn't. "disruptor" the class that we commonly referred to as "control mage" before the class update? My smartphone refuses to open the link properly and I'm already in bed under sheets so not going to turn PC on again until tomorrow. . But if Anivia and Zyra are with her that's the class I'm taking about. Malz was a support until his very last changes ( and has been since his nerfs following mymu) and I think he's going to be nerfed again soon since his wr skyrocketed . Cassio was one of the first mymu mages to be nerfed, specifically hit at her sustain and at her flash-r animation if I recall correctly (searching for the patch on this buggy phone would hunt my dreams xD). As far as Annie fares I honestly never saw her if not in the hands of Annie Bot.. She seems like a situational pick, a walking stat check that has reason to be picked for her R-stun and the ability to target stun.

As for the "power curve" of mages I honestly can't disagree more: They seem to have all their weak spot at the same time of the game:before getting their mana item. Just mention me a mage that is particularly strong before lost chapter, or another that is particularly weak after (azir doesn't count he's always weak :p). Every mage tend to have a weak spot in his own kit rather then in a particular moment of the game. Syndra? Immobile and squishy Annie? Short ranged and immobile Ahri? Squishy and less utility then the average mage in teamfights exc. Not to mention everyone of them has clear windows of weakness when a certain ability is down (syndra E Annie passive Ahri R). An orianna who just moved her ball is a vulnerable orianna as her shield takes more time to travel then many projectiles . She has no mobility so a well placed gank can destroy her , especially if her ball is settled to aggressively zone you. You play her you should know.. If anything the problem presents in late game when she's doing more dps then she is supposed to by constantly moving the ball for the sole sake of damage from Q with 45% cdr but AP itemization is pretty fucked up atm.. Who didn't built athene lost flat AP on their build and who used to buy athene is now forced into morello, 40 AP more then they used to have in their mana/cdr item..

Hyrum Graff4 votes

Rank 7 / 100k mastery Ori here. Couple times when she is weaker:

  • If you win lane and can force her into maxing E second instead of W, her mid game burst is not nearly so scary, and both it and her waveclear are more situational.
  • At 5-6 items, her raw burst falls off a bit if the enemy has built any MR. As in, during the mid-game you can q-w-r-(tld)-aa and take a carry from 100 to 0. In the very late game it's more necessary to get multi-person shockwaves, or you're not doing enough for your team.
  • If she opts for any first item except Morello, she's either going to run oom very quickly or lack her usual early/mid game burst.

Overall I'd agree, though. Her weak points are not very pronounced; it's more "power spike vs normal power" than "power spike vs power dip".
