Riot, can you please allow some sort of MMR reset in normals?

Back in seasons 4/5, I try-harded in normals to get prepared for ranked. That worked out great (I went 8/2 in my first placements for silver 1, making a short climb to gold).

I now try to play a mix of my mains and also trying new champions in normals though. I used to be able to go to team builder for new champions and have garbage MMR there, but now I'm stuck in normal draft.

And guess what happens?

My first game as Galio: I'm against a team with 4 diamond and 1 plat player (I'm only plat in ranked, and that's playing my mains). My second game as Galio: My lane opponent is diamond. My third game as Galio: Lane opponent is also plat, but enemy bot lane are both diamond. My fourth game as Galio: My lane opponent is Challenger (yes, not kidding, actually currently in challenger).

It's funny how when I come to normals to pick up a new champion, I can't get a game without a diamond+ player on the enemy team. All because I did the smart thing and played hard in normal draft to be ready for ranked FOUR-FIVE SEASONS AGO. No wonder my champion pool is so small. I get so discouraged trying any new champions because it's not only that I do poorly on them (which against any opponents you might expect?) but I don't feel like I'm learning anything most of the time because I'm getting pubstomped by players that would likely beat me on my mains. At least if I was playing my mains I'd know enough about what I was doing to learn something in those games.

So I ask: Can't we get an option to lower our normal MMR or reset it partially each season? I understand that you want to keep decent matchmaking, but you do ranked resets?? I'd like to get the opportunity to play new champions and learn them before bringing them to ranked, like almost everyone else does...

Amen.

Now players like me who play for fun, then have their normal games in the lowest tier because they fail one or two placement games permanently makes the game a little less enjoyable everyday.

Go play champions for fun for a while and your MMR will drop pretty quickly. It seems like the Unranked MMR is a little bit more volatile than ranked from my experience, so my guess would be that you probably play unranked infrequently and when you do it's either serious practice or a champion you're already comfortable and confident as...

From what I remember, I use to go from ~silver average to ~plat average in about a week if I started playing my more viable picks.

But most of my experience isn't from the past 3 seasons or so, maybe they've changed things. But otherwise, I've got about 8k unranked games played... and that's what I'd noticed.

This is fairly true - I generally play normal on my mains when I'm returning from a break to get used to playing them again. I don't generally play normals for new picks, as whenever I try that the experience I put in the OP happens. When I do play a few games like that, I eventually play my mains because I want to get the First Win bonus or just want to have a good game.

I guess I'll try not playing my mains in normals for a while and see what happens. Although it's tough, because even when I individually play not well I'm generally capable of not feeding and am carry-able. So I still win occasionally on these new champions which probably also prevents my normal MMR from dropping too much.

As someone who play almost exclusively normal games, I haven't had that problem, especially since they now have positional MMR. I don't play toplane, so when my friends forced me there, I'd lose lane hard--now the matches are more even when I'm forced there!

Of course, you also have to consider the fact that most of those players probably have lower MMR than their Ranked MMR for one reason or another--probably aren't taking it as seriously, probably playing off-roles or new champs, etc.. So in theory someone being a higher Rank than you shouldn't matter if they're playing at a lower level than their "niche".

So I've gone 3W 12L in my last 15 games, and am still getting matched against full diamond teams in normals... :|
