Do not take Phase Rush on Swain

Instead, take Electrocute, and switch out one of your summoner spells for Ghost.

I have been playing plenty of Swain lately, and I've come to realize that he is someone that needs to establish lane control fairly early on (I mean by like lvl 2). Phase Rush doesn't help this.......at all. When you're trying to harass in lane, landing a E, passive, Q can do a hefty chunk of damage, and will assuredly force your opponent to down a pot after just 2 successful attempts. Phase Rush is meant to help during his ult so he could keep up with his targets....but it doesn't even do it's job here. It doesn't last long enough, and it's CD is long enough that by the time you can proc it again, your ult is basically over. However, in lane, it's CD is short enough, while your CDS are long enough that you use it to just get away from your opponent. Someone like TF has low enough early CDs that he can use Phase Rush properly.......but Swain doesn't have that.

Electrocute, on the other hand, helps so much more. You can go from forcing your opponent to down a pot in 2 successful combos, to just 1. Then, to help keep up with your targets while in ult, you can take Ghost. Not only does it last so much longer and gives so much more speed than Phase Rush, it's CD is low enough that come the time you would need to use your ult again, it will be waiting for you.

Now, you might be asking "What about teleport, or ignite?" Well, teleport is good if you know you're going to have a rough lane....but even then, I would still recommend Ghost over it, because it can help you far more in the mid game teamfights. As for ignite.....you're not a burst mage. You're not going to bring your opponents within an inch of their life many times throughout the game....you're either going to kill them....or your not. Simple as that.

Predator is pretty solid on him in some comps as well. I tested dark harvest, Phase, comet, klepto, and Glacial so far. I'm going for item cdr off other runes so pred up time is pretty much every fight, as is item 3157

Pred rune damage usualy seems to be in the 500 to 1k range, but the mobility is very handy for roaming and chasing down targets as you get the summoner 6 max speed from pred, till ya hit something. so you need to set up the E or get into range for a QR and stick to them.

How have you been performing on him? I'll admit, I'm having a really rough time. I mean, I understand him well enough......but if I fall behind, it feels almost impossible to catch back up. I die to a gank, and I pretty much lost the lane right there.

I once had a lvl 2 Jarvan gank me from stealing our jungler's red.....I wasn't even lvl 2 yet. I died there, and was 2 lvls behind my opponent for the rest of the game.

And since I am having such a hard time, I'm also getting alot of hate for it. If a game doesn't go our way, it's my fault we lost.

hit and miss. If I'm stuck in lane it goes badly unless I'm winning it handidly solo. problem is I find 2v1 to be a struggle. Pred and mobies provides rammus and hec levels of WTF MS IS THAT which makes ganks great, if your lanes have any hard cc.

Overall I frequently hitting top 2 spots on team for damage, regardless of the runes ive tested.

I think Comet is good on Swain. It must be doing something right if Comet can proc about 2000- 2500 damage after coming out of a good match. It also doesn't hurt to run Manaflow Band from the same Sorcery tree for the sweet free mana every now and then. I only run Domination tree on secondary for the good o' Cheap Shot and Ravenous Hunter that seem like a pair made in heaven for Swain but otherwise I wouldn't say anything in Domination tree is particularly needed on him.

Teleport is a good thing on Swain, because you can jump in other lane's fight (as well as hop back to your lane quickly). This is especially advantageous if you have ulti ready.
