With the advent of "skill" changes, Support suffers
This started out as 3 different posts. But what I came to realize as I wrote them was that the issues I was complaining about were symptoms, not problems. What started it was that I stopped being able to take GP as support after his rework, and I'm now seeing this issue in all corners of the game.
Before the rework, GP had Raise Morale instead of Barrels. It was certainly boring, but it allowed him to buff allies enough to make support viable. Then they reworked him and that dream was dead. All things considered, I'm fine with that. Reworks are necessary and older champs are going to need to adapt to a changing landscape.
But with all these reworks, I often wonder if the streamlined champs are taking some of the fun out of the game. The Galio rework seems fun, and I'll reserve judgement until I've played him. Galio seemed really niche, and while I hope I can use him as I always have (mid lane against divey assassins) I'm fine with however things shake out. For the record, i think WW was a massive upgrade and I think they only did great things with him.
What has me a little nervous however is Urgot. I genuinely believe - whether I'm right or not - that he's got a PR issue, not a balance issue. I mentioned in a previous post that I think he's a really solid support champ - and then it hit me. The reworks that I'm concerned with are robbing champs of their support ability. Dollars-to-donuts his passive gets changed which gives his ADC a massive advantage in trades. Exhaust got nerfed? No problem. His slow with the W+E combo and his ult are amazing for the bot lane.
I guess what I'm saying here Riot is that we're already running a deficit of support champs. Please stop reworking other champs out of having the possibility.
