It takes getting used too, but I leave it off for the sake of bush camping.
Attack move will auto attack the closest target (or cursor if that's set) so if I am walking into bushes I just attack move click them so I immediately fight whoever is camping them.
The only reason to have auto attack on is for bush campers or to start attackibg somebody if you're AFK, and it's great for wave clearing late game but you can just spam attack move and in lane you're orb walking regardless. For example, in the jungle you're going to be attack move kitting camps regardless so once you aggro them, you'll be able to walk away and attack at your furthest basic attack range and walk further.
If you're not used to attack move, please learn it, it is extremely important. Once you learn it you may not need auto attack turned on at all. I keybinded the smartcast version of attack move to one of my mouse buttons for convienance. For voli it might be worth making a combo of pressing the "target champions only toggle" -> Q -> attack move so you will flip and bite only the closest champion to where you attack moved rather then minions, towers, etc. unconditionally.
Also practice using the F# keys. Example, press F2 to look at your top laners then immediately press space bar to look at your character, this can save a lot of camera panning so you can essentially F2->space->attack move->F3->space->attack move etc. tbh I'm only starting to do this this preseason, never really trained myself early on to use the F keys so I'm doing it as part of this preseason as it is extremely helpful for jungle mains.
I'm bringing all of these mechanics up because this is stuff you should learn regardless that in the long run, makes keeping auto attack on irrelevant as it just becomes muscle memory (such as attack move to clear waves or face checking bushes)
