urgot is incredibly viable. in fact his kit is borderline cancerous. he isn't played quite as much anymore because the tank meta isn't a thing and you don't see assassins in mid anymore which is what he is a good counter too. he's still playable though for sure. his Q deals tons of damage and is completely unavoidable if you land that E (not that hard to land). he's good. he's not top tier anymore because of the meta shift. but you can still play him and do well.
Uhm actually he was huge in the assassin meta (kinda like cho'gath), that is right. But he's kinda bad in the tank meta. And those are two different things. Why? Because he doesn't have as much damage against tanks as a classic crit adc and his low mobility makes him easily caught by the massive CC a tank meta would bring.
Anyway, I think what really killed him in competitive was the poke meta (ap kog, varus) he couldn't really do anything against.
About cho, I'd even say Cho'gath is not 'tank meta', really. He's like really good against assassins, but against tanks? He's pretty much only burst, with low mobility. He'll just get kited/CCed all day and can't really melt tanks. Sure he has his ult but that is a long cooldown so he'll use it just once in a fight. Same lines of reasoning for urgot.
But I'm really going far from the subject ;P
