I just played Bard for the first time; I think he should be the future of League of Legends.

Holy fuck, if Bard was a carry champion, new main right now.

A large part of the reason I love Jinx, my main since November, is just how good her AOE crit rockets feel. It feels really good to farm with her, to just blow up 30 minions in 1 shot. Read my name right now. Farming is the most consistent way I get pleasure out of most of my games. So, why do I like the support Bard?

I've talked before on the boards about how toxicity is a result of a lack of outlets for success in this game. Before Bard, there were 3 main ways to feel successful and relevant in League of Legends: damage the enemy, use utility to catch the enemy, and farming creeps. As I've stated in other posts, the problem with that is all three of the ways to feel successful in this game can be corrupted by your teammates. Your teammates have the ability to completely sabotage the joy in this game, and a lot of the time it's out of self-interest, not spite.

Bard adds exactly the kind of mechanic I want every champion to have. It is a way to feel successful that your teammates have no incentive to sabotage. Your teammates cannot take the Chimes. The only way your team can hurt your ability to collect your Chimes is to tell the enemy team where they are and that you are on your way to get them. Unlike stopping you from farming, no one on your team gains anything from you getting killed collecting Chimes.

When your damage is too low, when you put the pinks in every bush but the one shaco was hiding in, when you miss all of your Qs, and when your team is taking all of the farm, well...what do you have to play for? Before Bard, the answer was nothing. You were expected to sit there and continue to be miserable until your team makes a comeback or loses. With Bard, you can go roam, collect some chimes, and come back to teamfights in 5 minutes with ramped up damage and some cool effects, AND THERE IS NO REASON FOR YOUR TEAM TO TRY TO STOP YOU. It's unique, it's fun, it's unsabotagable, it feels very rewarding, and it is exactly the sort of thing I want Riot to expand on in future champions. .
