daily reminder, that lategame ranged ad do the same damage in 2 seconds by point and click auto attacks. just saying, its burst. but burst that can be dodged. and her overall damage is not spectacular compared to other mages or ad carries.

Anonagon9 votes

ADCs don't do that from two screens away, and don't do it AoE (except Jinx, fuck Jinx)

EvilRabbitt4 votes

Then they buy runaans instead of berserker greaves. #Denied.

Anonagon8 votes

no one would ever replace their zerks with Runaans. The only items you can replace it with are Zephyr or PD because they give movespeed. Also Runaans does 35% damage and can't crit. It not even comparable to an actual AoE ability.

Only if you are fed as fuck Not counting MR Her passive always proc when you ult.

Anonagon2 votes

no, you don't have to be fed to do that kind of damage as Lux meanwhile MR itemization is shit, and MPen itemization is great her passive doesn't always proc (do its damage) when she ults, it always applies the mark. It only procs if she's hit them with another spell beforehand.

Both of those are shit on most APC because you will almost never be in range to benefit from Scepter's aura and Grail's mp5's nerf revealed just how much of the power was wrapped up in that regen. If you want defense vs a mage as a mage, you get Hourglass. There are very few people who really like Abyssal and those people still like Hourglass more.

I honestly can't think of a mage who wouldn't grab Morello's, AA, or RoA if they really needed the mana regen mid/game.

Lux is lacking in the damage department. She doesn't do much to tanks, and does minimal damage to others unless she's fed but that's an outlier. Even with cdr the cooldowns on her abilities are 1-2 seconds longer than they probably should be and in a crazy teamfight it's usually too difficult to trigger her passive with an auto.. I don't care much for the champion personally but I feel she needs some type of buff to compete with other mids

SnugglePuggle941 votes

She can do a lot of damage against immobile mid champions like Orianna, Brand, etc. I wrecked an Orianna one game with Lux, finishing 20-3. But yea if she's not fed her damage is quite low.

Orianna is way stronger than Lux. She can shield your E all day and setup easy ganks on you because of her slow

ChaoticPinecone3 votes

i dont have a problem procing her passive in a fight. you just bind anyone trying to dive, get an auto off, then run away (you shouldnt be landing max-range binds on a carry on a fight if your opponent is competent - or you can use the trusty E-Ult to proc her passive). Her shield is worth the lack of damage and due to this, she scales amazingly into lategame.

The mana costs, however, probably need to be looked at.

stochastic4210 votes

I agree it's too high I hardly play lux ever due to her immobility and squishyness, and the fact that i can't poke out someone who starts with sustain due to going oom in 20 seconds.

Edit: Lux is here-on-in to be called shitty Xerath

Timesz4 votes

I wouldn't go that far. Xerath was built for siege and straight up damage. Lux was built with utility and supporting more so than burst.

This^^ Everyone seems to forget lux is mage/support not mage/assassin. She brings more utility and is a god in team fights. God forbid champs fulfill different niches and are more powerful at different aspects of the game. All she needs is maybe some very small qol changes any other buffs will get her nerfed.

And then you realize Xerath makes a better support than Lux. He has hard CC to Lux's soft CC, his slow is stronger , his poke is both easier and more damaging, he has higher base damages, and unlike Lux, has his own in-built mana-regen, so he doesn't need to invest 3k into mana regen to avoid running oom in-lane.

Literally the only advantage Lux has as a support is a piss-poor shield that has zero benifits.

Timesz2 votes

Lux as a support doesn't require that much mana. Honestly, leveling Q gives you better benefits in lane and higher damage to a single target than Lucent Singularity. Because she's support, she doesn't need to wave clear. If she does, she still has Illumination to pick up the pieces to help her ADC last hit. But that's a trade, higher base damage vs higher reliability.

Lux as a mid laner could just buy a second doran's ring and be happy in lane forever. Like Diana.

Also, Xerath requires setup for his rotation. Have you actually landed that ultimate more than once? Have you hit more than one person per ultimate? Have you seen how slow Shocking Orb travels? Does Lux have to sit there and charge her abilities to achieve maximum range? How long does it take your rotation to go off?

Xerath trades time for his high burst. He has to sit there and charge Q to reach you, W's slow is hard to land against long-range characters, E's travel time is super long and requires Xerath to be standing at middle range to hit reliably, and ultimate is easy-to-dodge. I'm not saying Xerath is bad, but you have to realize in a Xerath/Lux matchup, Lux has an upper-hand in a faster rotation (Q-E-R vs. E-W-Q-R-R-R) where Xerath has the upperhand of poking (Q>Q>Q>Q>Q>Q ultra combo, AA for more mana vs E>AA and eventual OOM).

EvilRabbitt10 votes

Meanwhile Blitzcrank ulti is just 100 mana, 30 second cd (with no cdr mind you), aoe, 100% ap ratio, high base, silence. And for just 30 mana more, you can get an aoe slow+damage. With nothing else.

Rito, plz. Get it together. XD

SmokinSickStyle10 votes

You are comparing fruits to rocks.

NEVER compare 2 abilities between 2 different champs with different roles with the remaining kit being well, different.

metaworldpeace1010 votes

Lux does need buffs. If you compare her to the other "utility wave clear immobile mages" she's lacks in damage, waveclear and utility. Orianna has better utility, zone control, waveclear and damage than Lux. Xerath has better wave clear, poke and overall damage. Lux beats him IMO in overall utility. Ziggs has much better poke, zone control and aoe damage. Lux beats him in utility, but the sheer damage output that Ziggs can put out and how long he can stall games is a pretty good trade off for the lack of utility. Lux is outclassed by all of these immobile mages by a long shot. If you want utility, Orianna is so much better than lux is every single way. Lux has to continue auto attacking creeps to waveclear until level 10, while Orianna/Ziggs/Xerath start effectively clearing waves at level 7. Her cool downs are significantly longer than Ziggs/Xerath/Orianna. The two buffs I would like to see to her are:

  1. remove the casting time on her shield. It feels clunky casting it and it really makes her immobility feel even worse than it already is.
  2. reduce the mana cost on her e at all levels. Keep the mana cost at no more than 100 mana at rank 5

These buffs would not solve all of Lux's problems, but these would be two steps in the right direction.

Timesz3 votes

In raw damage, Orianna actually has a bit less damage than Lux in a rotation. Coupled with the fact Prismatic Barrier is an AoE refreshing barrier, where Command: Protect is a single target barrier that provides very little bonus MR/Armor (got nerfed significantly.)

In theory, Orianna has an easier time dealing damage in an AoE if setup properly (Hurr R-W-Q, so hard.) But Lux under certain conditions (the jungle, for example) outscales Orianna's AoE damage in a team fight.

In my humblest opinion, Lux is not exactly out-classed like you claim, but fills a different support niche that no other caster provides. She can illuminate the shadows with E and ultimate, she has a great counter-initiation in the form of Q and W. She has pretty decent sustained damage in fights if you learn to master Illumination. Let's not forget that a perfect Prismatic Barrier has the potential to block up to 180 + (AP*.7) for her entire team.

Though I agree that we could remove the cast time on W. She already has one one her Q, E and ultimate. I'm pretty sure we can shave off and add a little more reliability on Prismatic Barrier.

SlushieDee4 votes

Uh, your teammates will suddenly go godmode and perfectly juke W anyways...

Timesz1 votes

Now I'm not saying that you do this, but this is an example of either poor position or poor management of a fight. When it comes to such a time crucial skill like Prismatic Barrier, you have to survey the fight and calculate "Where will this make the most difference?" and "Where is the flow of the fight going?"

SlushieDee2 votes

It was a joke about how your teammates always seem to flawlessly sidestep your W or try superhard to dodge it. Sorry if that was unclear. Seriously though, I've cast Prismatic Barrier and lined it up with all of my allies, and then two of them FLASH AWAY FROM IT.

Gorgannan2 votes

Yeah, but Lux has high cooldowns and Orianna can cast each spell three to four times in the time Lux can cast each twice.

leafboom9 votes

Can you not complain about her costs? Sure they're huge, but if they get buffed Lux is gonna get nerfed again!

DJ Hatsune Miku6 votes

Why would she get nerfed? Even with acceptable mana costs she wouldn't exactly be fotm. Immobile utility mages aren't what most people play.

5512028 votes

While Lux need item 3070 item 3174 item 3165 (all 3) to not get oom in lane, Katarina can rush item 3089 item 3157 item 3285 early. Its so balanced!

jDVL20eCYs4 votes

i just need one or two dorans. when i get some item i can one shoot there adc with e r combo. she is strong. you should go 2x doran into ludens then morello, meja, void, dcap

ThePlasticSpork7 votes

Meh. If you ask me, it makes no sense that Lux E costs 130 while LeBlanc and Ekko ults are both free. I get that those are ultimate abilities, but it still seems...unfair? To say the least.

Zahz6 votes

i agree. The immobile mages in this game need some love. They tend to run out of mana to fast and lose lane on backs alone. Immobility is such a weakness in this current meta that it deserves to be warranting some serious power to make up for it. Not this miss ur cc then insta pop

didnt she recently get a buff on the pbe?

they increased the damage on her passive again. meaning youre getting more damage out of a single e, if you pop the passive.

i just remember seing something like that. not sure if its gonna go through.

i think the reason why its so expensive is, that youre not supposed to purely rely on the e for poke, but that you should use the q more and then chain it with the e to get actual damage in on a hit.

Where exactly did they buff her passive? If you're talking about the "buff" a few patches ago so passive applies to ult, it wasn't a buff. It was always there, but they never bothered to fix it until that patch.

Also, a basic ability that has low damage, low scaling, and a mediocre slow that doesnt even last after it's exploded (lux uses it for burst 95% of the time, not zoning.) and has more mana cost than an ult surely needs a mana reduction.

no i mean ive seen some pbe notes recently, where her passive was buffed from 10 + 8level + .2ap to 10 + 10level + .2 ap.

however, i dont know what happened with that. it might go through in one of the next patches, or maybe they discarded it.

I think a decrease of mana cost is definitely in order.

I was doing amazing with her the other day in a normals game, but even at level 18 I would have mana problems.

FantasySniper5 votes

The [E] is mostly a setup tool for AoE in teamfights or is a waveclear tool.

If they buffed the mana cost on it, they'd have to nerf another part of her kit to make up for how much opportunity it gives.

Samflash310 votes

What waveclear? Considering she still has to auto the minions to clear it, it still isn't worth.

Baron Perenolde4 votes

Make her E cost 100 mana at max rank and I'll be happy.

Leblanc's W does 5 more damage, but nonetheless, Lux's E has a 600 range diameter. That's huge.

Sona Ping13 votes

Let's take a look at this, geometrically.

If it has a diameter of 600 units, that means it has a radius of 300 units. And that means that the slowest champions in the game can move out of the blast radius before the spell gets there, with only their base, un-enhanced movement speed and with range to spare. So we can conclude that is neither huge nor impossible to dodge for any player who is actually paying attention to their lane.

gubigubi3 votes

Yet she has a 50% win rate 11% pick rate and is pretty viable already. Why would you want them to buff a balanced champion. If your champion isn't getting banned every game and isn't trash tier you shouldn't want a buff.

ShadowParker7 votes

Tell me. Does 130 mana for one move that can't even kill the caster minions at level 6 sound reasonable?

Akesgeroth2 votes

I must say she's fairly mana hungry at high levels. With everything at rank one, a full rotation minus her ult costs 180. With everything maxed, a full rotation including her ult costs 380 mana. The only characters who are comparably mana intensive are Veigar, who's at 210 for rank 1 minus ult and 395 with everything maxed and ult, Vel'koz (190 and 370 respectively) and Malzahar (230 and 430 respectively). Those three are all pure damage mages and two of them have mana recovery in one way or another, the one not having it being Vel'koz because damn would it be stupid to make him mana efficient.

On the other hand, despite not being a pure damage mage, Lux still does a lot of damage at massive range and has strong utility. The truth of the matter is that she's not meant to be played as a pure damage mage, but as a support mages. If they reduced her mana costs, they would have to nerf her damage, simple as that. As it is, Lux is not meant to use her spells as often as possible to do damage constantly, but rather wait for the proper opportunity to use them to their maximum potential.

Uiru3 votes

This would be a viable argument except that a large number of the assassins she fights in mid have NONE of these concerns, and most have easy ways to close the distance through her range and destroy her. "A lot of damage" is a bit misleading. Additionally, she is punished hard for missing, which gets more and more likely as more and more hypermobility champions are released, many of whom don't even care if they miss THEIR spells.

Your suggested playstyle indicates that Lux will be pushed to tower instantly by several champions who CAN use their spells as often as possible to do damage constantly, where she will begin losing cs while her assassin opponent heads bot to get double kills (because that's always how that works). The risk to playing Lux does nothing but increase as Riot continues this ridiculous mobility creep; the reward must increase as well. She should have her mana costs buffed AND increased damage on her spells because the inbuilt counterplay of "use one of my multiple dashes" will always exist with her, AND she is still on the short list for squishiest champion in the game. You don't sit back and let her rain harass down on you, you get in and hit her and she dies. The problem is she can't even do that even if you do it wrong.

The simple fact is that Lux can play pitch perfectly against many champions and still lose lane and one single misstep results in a death when those same opponents have safety nets for days and need to fuck up repeatedly before they even have to consider leaving. The reason for it is that she burns out of mana immediately regardless of what she tries to do and her damage is nowhere near sufficient to scare away an opponent (especially one who's coming back to lane with a scepter, if not a cutlass, when he DOES leave).

But Lux isn't an assassin or an adc so I expect nothing to ever change :o ~Uiru
