They blamed us for Autofill

  1. There is nothing in the rules that says a player must pick a certain champion to fit into the role they were assigned. So Riot can't rightfully say, via their own rules, that anyone is at fault for "trolling" (assuming we mean troll picking to force a different ally to dodge, as was the example they gave) when they're forced to fill. However, rioters have outright said that it is the player's fault rather than the game's that the game forces players into a certain role. This all despite the fact Team Builder and the new Champion Select were working fine without autofill.

  2. The perceived need for autofill could only stem from a lower player count, be it from number of supports or number of players overall. Yet, instead of taking steps to ensure more people want to continue playing or tell their friends to play this game, they've done the opposite. Forcing players into a role they didn't ask for, and having the only alternative be to hope their connection is the fastest and they type in mid/top the quickest only serves to make players less inclined to play this game or recommend it to friends.

Riot's taken steps backwards from solving the problem. Autofill may be a temporary fix to queue times, but it in itself serves to increase queue times by making players less inclined to play the game at all. Why would someone who likes to play mid lane log in to get autofilled as Support or Bot when they could play anything other than a MOBA and actually play the game they want to play?

They've taken no steps to make Support fun to play or shift the game away from absolute need for a support in bottom lane, which is how they'd actually fix the issue. As it stands, they've done nothing but increase the imbalance of both normal and Ranked draft by making it so many players are forced into playing an unfamiliar role to the chagrin of their allies. It doesn't help anyone if the entire team has no fun because the Support wasn't someone who wanted to play Support.

the new Champion Select were working fine without autofill.

This is a lie. "Fill" was synonymous with "Support' which wasn't what "Fill" players wanted so it was becoming less and less popular by the week making Support more and more in demand (and thus making "Fill" less and less distinguishable from "Support". The queue last season also allowed groups as part of the queue in such a way that forced them to fill in a wider variety of lanes than if they were queued separately.

The perceived need for autofill could only stem from a lower player count.

This is a lie. The bottleneck from a lack of support players has little to do with the total number of players, what actually matters is the proportion of players that queue up as support relative to the other roles combined with the average length of a game.

  1. Not a lie. You're claiming that players who don't select fill at all getting automatically set to Fill is healthier than the previous system of Fill being Support most of the time. The queue times haven't improved.

  2. Support player count, then. Also not a lie. No one has incentive to play or convince new friends to play Support, in addition to the lack of guarantee that they'll get a different role if they ask for it.

The that there is a bottleneck at all is caused by the lack of fun in the Support role.

Maybe it'd be productive if you actually commented to discuss the topic instead of picking apart one thing you're actually wrong about and another slight mistake in wording.

This is a lie. Queue times were longer last season even though the queue had groups of people in the system that were better spread across roles than if they had queued up solo.

The that there is a bottleneck at all is caused by the lack of fun in the Support role.

And that is a problem that is always going to exist to some degree because players usually want to be the star of the show and the support role is, by definition, as far away from being the star as possible. The only real solution is to tell people playing the game that they're going to have to put the lessons they learned in kindergarten to good use and simply take turns.
