Sion, Taric and Mordekaiser should have Total Reluanch Priorities

@Morello @IronStylus

because all 3 of them are completely lacking both in kit and aesthetics in nearly every possible way to what their archetype and theme's potential could be. If anyone needs a total Relaunch, it is these 3.

Why?

Sion is rightly losing all of his weird references to Schwarzenegger. It's fine to reference something and have a character be inspired by it, but to make it to the sole basis of the character's quotes, skins and existence is too much. Attackspeed on a lumbering oaf makes little sense, and being a burst mage as a big burly dude is also a bit weird. Mage-like qualities combined with Fighter play patterns would work excellently on an archetype like Mordekaiser's, but Sion doesn't really work with those ideas. He should be this undead killing machine that slowly walks towards you, out-runnable but not unstoppable.

In a way they are keeping him Terminator inspired but not making it the entirety of his design nor the entirety of his references. He is a soldier that was feared by all opposing armies that was brought back from the dead, but only the soldier remains. He has no remorse, no morality, no humanity, only an Axe to bludgeon you with.

**Mordekaiser **is honestly just a joke currently. He is a walking series of obscure references to Metal and if Riot is going to take the obscurity away from Sion like they should, they need to do it for this guy too. He is supposed to be a Necromancing Warlord of death and destruction with a large mace of terror and fright, and he ends up being this walking joke burst mage who barely uses his weapon that most people will never take seriously. He supposedly caused Hecarim to exist, he might have even caused the entirety of the Shadow Isles to come back, he might even be the Ruined King at one time. Imagine the potential he has. (As a side note, when they do relaunch him all of his metal references should be Pentakill skin exclusive and that skin should be Legendary quality to pay homage to long-time fans)

He could be forever bound to Armor that is forever kept in-tact by the souls of the lives he takes and absorbs, and he uses said souls as a shield (his passive) basically like a straight up evil version of Alphonse from Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. The more damage he inflicts the fiercer he becomes and the harder he becomes to stop. Imagine if he summoned a fierce minion with his ultimate that absorbed/became whoever he or Morde killed while he was active instead of a partial DFG dot? **Also, he needs a "Next I will take Brazil. Huehuehue" line as his joke regardless. **

A Fanart concept that imo nails what Mordekaiser could look like is attached

**Taric **is currently outclassed in the support role by Braum, Soraka, Sona and Leona in terms of everything that he can do. Healer? Soraka. Auras? Sona. Wall Support? Braum. Offensive Tank? Leona. Taric was never intended to be a Support, but him being a Fighter/Tank seemed to be the point of his design but as we all know most concepts fell flat in the early designs of League. Taric is also subject to a lot of obscure jokes and references, and him being just outright flamboyantly gay may be a tad offensive to most people. **He should be fuming with Charisma, and from another planet like a mix of Thor and Superman and if he is gay it shouldn't be the entire focus of his character. It also shouldn't detract from his role as a knight. **

Taric should be all about showing up in the nick of time and protecting his allies and providing frontline support, but as something like a Maokai or a Malphite and not like Leona or Braum. If anything him being a mix of Pantheon and Leona/Braum would be the most ideal kit for a fierce but charismatic Gem Knight. In order for him to have offensive power and Fighting capabilities he shouldn't have a heal for himself or allies, but he should keep the Shatter mechanic in some way since it is really the only iconic part of him.

In terms of appearance the attached fanart nails it

How could Taric being gay be a "tad offensive"? If it is offensive to anyone than they are the problem not Taric...

Also i disagree with that picture of Taric, not every champion needs to be super badass cool. We need those humorous champs or champs that take away from the seriousness, Taric does that pretty well.

I do agree that all three of those champs need some sort of rework and i cant wait for Sion rework.

If a character is gay thats fine. If a character is the gay character, that isn't fine. They didn't put any emphasis on Lucian being black nor did they put any emphasis on any of the other characters being straight. Why we need to just completely say "taric is a gay champion while also being a walking joke" is beyond me, that is extremely offensive to everyone, gay or otherwise.

Problem with these three is trying to define a unique role and theme to them that hasn't already been used.

Sion I can't say what Riot is doing with Sion. As far as we know, he's still being worked on as we speak. I think the general idea is to turn away from the "Schwarzenegger" theme into something more undead and fearful. Although, a Traditional Sion skin with his Schwarzenegger lines would be very much appreciated. Some players enjoy his cheesy catch phrases (myself included) and do want to have the chance to keep them around.

Mordekaiser I agree with you about his obscurity. He makes vague metal jokes and lines, but it really doesn't relate back to him as a Champion. He's suppose to be from the Shadow Isles, but never mentions his home at all. He doesn't use his massive mace, because he deals more damage and gathers more shield when you build him with full AP as a burst mage. Now Riot's faced with a choice; like many of their reworks they have two ways of going about it. They can shift Mordekaiser into a animated hulk of metal from the Shadow Isles with his mace being more of a power source than a weapon (a burst mage route) or rather an ancient Shadow Isles warrior that was lost for sometime and now is ready to beat and pound his way back to his past (a hybrid tank or Bruiser route). It's a tough nut to crack.

Taric I agree that Taric is outclassed by most supports at this point in time. He either brings too much utility (heals, free armor, lock-on stun, bonus AD/AP) or not enough (post nerfs). Being in this awkward state of OP or UP means Taric desperately needs another rework. I have to disagree about him not being a support. All you have to do is read his lore and look at his kit to realize that Taric is 100% a support. However, a kit like Taric's brings too much utility. So much so that he just doesn't need to be played as a support anymore. He may have been a support, but I am in agreement that he should shift to a utility top lane tank rather than support. Maybe not Bruiser, but somewhere along Shen's line of being a tank that will be there for his team when they need him. Also, about the whole gay thing, never have I heard someone say they were offended at Taric's "gayness". He's flamboyant, sure, but not offensive. There lies another problem with redesigning Taric. People like that he is flamboyant, even though he wasn't really meant to be. Again, tough decisions on Riot's part that need to make.

All in all, these three really do need some love ASAP. They're old, outdated, and desperately need to be modernized.

Taric bringing utility even with the rework seems like a good idea but they would need to adjust it from mostly invisible power to highly visible and controlled power. I used the Pantheon example briefly because the Weapon + Shield similarity and the "I jump in from out of nowhere to come and assist my team" would work perfectly for Taric. They could possibly even make him the inverse of Sona, the Debuffer rather than the Buffer. He pops himself onto the enemy team and starts debuffing them with huge crystals and gems. Just spitballing ideas here.

Yeah it is really hard to decide what to do with Morde, I can imagine that his Passive and the Concept of R will remain and nothing else will. I don't know if they will keep him AP, but they could considering how magical he is at least conceptually. Something along the lines of Diana/Gragas would be good.

CaptainWednesday2 votes

That's a really good point too. He suffers from the old Sona problem of: "I am close enough to Taric to receive the auras?" "I am close enough to Taric for him to shred by armor?" (enemy) "Can I tell the difference between being empowered by Taric as opposed to not?"

There's no indicators or real feel of being empowered, and that's huge conflict when it comes to game clarity.

Really? I can't imagine anything staying on Mordekaiser's kit except his Q, and even it would be reworked (hopefully to work on tower's as a on-hit basic attack buff). His ultimate scales far too well for him to remain as a mage. Like you said, Riot needs to decide how "magical" Mordekaiser actually is.

Kingsgrave1 votes

When I think Mordekaiser I think his ultimate and his passive. Everything else is really bland and not at all iconic enough to remember.

I'm offended by the gay things people say about him. Now he's apparently a child stalker going after Ez who seems to be 17. And a change to his appearance wouldn't be too bad. People liked Twitch's original look but they still changed it. Vayne had a good look but they amped it up. So why? Why won't you allow Taric a new look? I main the guy as a support by the way.

CaptainWednesday2 votes

If you're offended because someone said that a fake person in a video game is gay then you have your own insecurities. I personally welcome the idea of a gay champion. Diversification is not a bad thing. Child stalker is a bit extreme, Ezreal is of age. Although, a more paladin-like look would be appreciated.

Rew7111 votes

But why Ezreal? Why not some other person?

On a side note, the picture above is profound and in truth does nothing to change his appearance but make it more modern. And yes it is a personal problem. I just don't believe it really exists and its just same sex people just feeling really close. You can feel love for someone who is of the same sex. But you can't do the same love to them as you could to someone of the opposite sex.

Alright, I gave my opinion. Bring the mean comments that make me depressed and sad. :/

CaptainWednesday2 votes

Because Ezreal and Taric were the bot lane pair, once upon a time. Just think about. Taric has heals, CC, Armor buff/debuff, and and ultimate that gives Ezreal AD & AP. They were unstoppable at one time. So much so, that Taric needed to be nerfed. Now, other champions do Taric's job better than he can. That's why I agree with the OP about shifting from a support to a utility tank.

He wears pink leg warmers and has very soothing, almost woman like voice. People run with that, and everyone thinks Taric's gay. It's really not a bad thing. I'm not going to get into a discussion about making love to people of the same sex because League is not the right place for that. But for fan service, it is a good idea to keep Taric flamboyant, while revitalizing his paladin style of play.

Rew7112 votes

alright. i'll go with it. but taric to me is still OP. especially if you go AP taric top.

CaptainWednesday2 votes

Oh, I don't doubt the Taric top. I love playing Taric jungle. He's such a fun champion, just weak and needs modernizing.

SexyTeemoSupport1 votes

dude......gay people exist and their feelings for the same gender are no less important than heterosexuals feelings toward the opposite gender. And yes gay people can make love just like straight people it's just with a different set of tools...go google that gay kinky stuff in a private browser if you don't believe me. Maybe its hard to imagine for yourself (because you are straight), but if you just take a moment to put yourself in a gay person's shoes it's not that hard to imagine...

Rew7111 votes

lol, you are in good rights for your opinion as i'm indulged for mine. we will never see eye to eye and that is to be a certain truth. but when you come on here and force your ideology onto me when for a fact its you people in particular that keep asking for us to not ask, try, or force you to change your thoughts on what you believe. how in the world is this any different from what you're doing now? i said what i thought on the matter and why it made me uncomfortable of my main support.

also, i understand you down voting my first comment but the second? you are just being a jerk when you down vote something that should have no hurt towards you what so ever.

SexyTeemoSupport1 votes

Wow I'm forcing my ideology onto you? How about you and the immature people like you, that can't handle a video-game character being gay? You told your discriminatory opinion and other people don't get to say their opinion as well? There's 120~ champs in the game and over half of their lores mention their straightness. It's not my fault you're getting so sensitive about one champion who happens to be gay.

And I'm not "forcing" my ideology onto you. Go ahead and continue being a homophobe all you want, but other people aren't going to tolerate your intolerance. Have fun being stuck in the past while the rest of society embraces equality.

Rew7111 votes

Dude, what are you trying to prove here? That I'm stupid? That I have don't like people? That I am some person who should keep his opinions to himself while you are allowed to come on here and say things like this?

You don't know maturity. I can see that when you down vote my comments. What will that do? Why do it?

I should not had said force when implying what I said. Yet you put that on here to (whether you want to admit it or not to) get me to believe what you believe.

As well, your comments were not needed at all. This thing about a gay Taric was ended with the other guy/girl before. And you should know that. You came on here to give your 2 cents just because I offended you and now you say this of all things. The other guy/girl gave his/her opinion not only better than the way you did but also made it so that not only I felt comfortable but that it was easier to accept.

As for the past, I kind of like it. The rules they had then, besides this concept we are talking about and I mean safety rules, were much stricter and kept things in line. That is also my opinion.

SexyTeemoSupport1 votes

That's so funny how upset you're getting when I'm merely pointing out how bigoted your "opinion" is. It's hard to face the truth isn't it?

You are welcome to your "opinion" all you want. Go ahead and post your homophobic nonsense all over the internet because you have that right. However, that doesn't mean other people are just going to stick their heads in the sand while people like you belittle and mock others, as you hide behind your favorite "its my opinion" mantra, as if that shields you from any criticism.

And now you're calling me immature, when you're the one crying over your imaginary internet points being down-voted?

A video game character is gay, big deal. Sorry to burst your bubble, but not everything in the world is catered to your heterosexual tastes. Get over yourself.

Rew7111 votes

Alright, I'll leave you with this last thing. After this you can send back as much hateful comments as you may like. And be as rude as your heart will allow.

When I said the comment that started all this. The first thought that popped into my mind was everyone saying "no one is offended by this". I thought that I had a right to say I am that minority that is. So, oh well. I main the guy. Still play as him and for now he is the support I play as most. But what I really want to say is I'm taken back by the

crying over your imaginary internet points being down-voted.

I'm shocked that'd you say something like that. That's a little far. And makes a valid point to my

you are being a jerk

comment. You can't also come back with an opinion, on my opinion, saying my opinion was a dumb opinion, because I said that everyone has opinions, to say that wasn't true when you keep giving one. Logic. And if it was not such a big deal that a video game character is gay like you say then how can you prove that when you came on here starting this discussion on the subject that you are trying to say is dumb in the first place? Also, I'm not the kind of person to mock others. You don't know who I am at all when you throw out those statements and accusations.

I have to disagree about him not being a support.

thats not what op said op said that original concept of taric was to be a fighter with supportive elements just like kayle is a midder with supportive elements but supportive elements outweighted the rest pusshing him to a full support state

Sion right now really does two things, he trades well in a fight and is constantly kited to death. He is a situational pick that can end up being a near unstoppable juggernaut. I've played games with him where the enemy team has to send three people to take me down as I split push, and with my stun, attack speed, and life steal I can keep them busy long enough for my team to take multiple objectives before I die.

He's not mobile, and when caught really only has fighting as a possible escape option. For most champions this would be considered a downside, but to me at least this feels like what Sion was made for. Of course he is remarkably prone to CC locking, but that doesn't make him weak, that just makes him situational. If the rework can keep him like this I would be very, very happy.

Taric on the other hand has different issues. With an item advantage he can trade with most melee top laners due to his heal/passive combo, and his armor boost does wonders against a lot of harass. I've played him as a top laner and done well in the past, but he has to have an advantage just to break even. If placed on equal terms he is at an innate disadvantage with his lack of mobility and kill potential. Shen has a heal, a shield, a dash with a similar duration cc on it, and damage that scales with his health. If you want a utility tank in the top lane there is really no question as to which would be picked.

I would actually say Taric is even worse in bot lane. All other support characters have a way to either disrupt a fight, initiate a fight, or disengage. Some are actually threats worthy of focusing over the carry they are supporting. Once Taric's stun is blown, however, he is literally a walking ball of stats for his allies. Braum's jump does the same job, and puts him in a position to take hits for his carry. Supporting as Taric works, but the carry really does have to carry the lane. There are enough supports that fill what seems to be his role that I truely hope Riot turns him into a utility tank.

Kingsgrave3 votes

From what I have seen riotferalpony say, Sion is going to remain immobile and get a crapton more CC. He is going to be an unmovable and immobile juggernaut of destruction and undeath.
