Ah so i posted this in the wrong section by accident so im reposting it here in the correct section ^_^ oops my bad.

Hey! So i don't do rework ideas all that often, mostly champion concepts, but i really wanted to do a Malz rework. I've done several in the past before, but they always had pointless mechanics or were overly complicated for no reason. I can't promise this one will be any different, but my goal here is to create a new Identity and give him some update mechanics. So thank you for reading, upvote if you like it and downvote if you dont, if you could also leave a comment as to how i can improve my idea i would be very grateful. Also this is going to be a long read so skip towards the bottom if you just want to see the rework, i like to give a lot of back up and give examples of where ive had issues that i believe need fixing.

#Identity and Issues

So Malzahar's Primary Role is of course Mage, this one is obvious. His Secondary, however, is Assassin, which may not be as obvious. The Assassin role, i feel, is a relic of the past where he really could 100-0 someone just like any other assassin. Unfortunately Malzahar can no longer do this except when very fed or with a lot of cooperation from teammates. That is ok with me, i want to remove the Assassin part of his kit and move him into a DoT Zone mage where i think he will be able to shine a lot more.

Now onto the issues with Malzahar that go beyond the obvious, like mana costs or low mobility. So Malzahar's damage is almost all Damage Over Time, his Q being the only non DoT spell. The issue with this is, I have noticed over the past several weeks that Malzahar is not doing the damage it says he should be doing. Me and my friends have noticed this, and i have been recently calculating how much damage i should be doing and seeing if it matches up, well it isnt. Two examples in particular really stood out for different reasons. The first was a Shaco and the second was Annie, so ill go into both of those below.

Malzahar vs Shaco

  • Reason 1: Shaco had 1700 max HP and only 30 MR at the time i tried to 100-0 him. I knew i wasn't going to kill him but i was just seeing how much damage i really do. So I W+E+R him, which is standard combo, and of course he survived. So to start off my ult should have done 1070 Magic Damage (550 base + 130% of my AP which was 520), my E should have done 640 Magic Damage (320 base + 80% of AP which is 320), and lastly my W should have been doing 12% of his Maximum Hp every second since my Ult lasts 2.5 seconds and it starts doing damage almost immediately im going to say he took 3 seconds worth of damage, so 36% of his maximum Hp is 612 Hp. Add up all that damage and you get 2,322 damage, this is not counting my Runes and Masteries nor does it count my Magic Pen. He had 30 MR which i believe is 25% Magic Damage Reduction which means 580 magic damage was reducing my total damage to 1742. That is 42 damage over his Maximum Hp at the time, and yet it only showed me doing 1400 magic damage and he survived with about 200-300 life. So what happened? I have no clue, this is not the only time this has happened.

  • Reason 2: This is a surprise, im not sure if this is intended or if this is a bug, but Shaco can ult during Malzahar's suppression. When he does, he goes invisible for a second. This actually cancels Malzahar's ult, but not in the normal way. Malzahar stays suppressed, but no damage is done and Shaco is no longer being suppressed. Im also not sure if this is intended but he was able to control his clone even when suppressed. So this could just be a bug, but if it was intended then id like to know why, it seems like a pointless advantage for Shaco.

Malzahar vs Annie

  • Reason: All game i had noticed how fail Malzahar is on Twisted Treeline, all my abilities except for Q required me to into AA of all the enemies, i had to almost point blank Ult anyone which is bad news for Malzahar. I also noticed that despite dealing the most damage, i couldnt actually kill anyone, even the squishy Annie. This situation in particular stuck out to me, we were losing the teamfight pretty bad but our Renekton had just punched Annie's face in. She was at around 300-400 life so i E+R (W and Q were on cool down) i fully expected her to die but of course she didnt. At this point i had 5 points in E and only 2 in R and i only had Rylais, Liandry's, and a Void Staff (plus sorc boots) so my AP without runes or masteries was 260. Meaning my E+R should have done 528+736=1266 Magic Damage but we need to factor in her MR (i mean we really shouldn't have to...) but she had 30 MR which is 25% which is 317 Magic Damage so i should have done 949 Magic Damage (not counting Magic Pen, and Void Staff mind you)... So why and how did she survive? I HAVE NO CLUE! Neither did my teammates, and im pretty neither Annie didnt know either. Some of you will check my Match History, no Skarner and Gnar did not CC me out of it, it was just me and Annie.

So if anyone with better knowledge of how this game works could please explain to me what is going on here that would be very helpful. These are not the only situations either, these are just the two that i paid the most attention to with items, damage, and what time they took place.

Now on to Malzahars Identity Crisis. Why pick Malzahar? Well he can pressure a lane and not even need to be in it, he can lock down one enemy for 2.5 seconds while still dealing damage turning it into a 4v5 or 4v4.5 since he is suppressed as well, and he has an AoE silence which is one of the longest if not the longest in the game. The problem with this? Why pick Malzahar when you can pick Lux and deal almost as much damage, except as burst, from longer range, being capable of rooting up to 2 people with a large AoE slow, and her ult which does a very very large amount of damage instantaneously from 3000 range that is capable of hitting more then 1 person. What about Annie? She deals more damage, farms easily without pushing the lane or having to recall, and has a instant AoE large damage ult capable of not only hitting 5 people but also stunning them! Essentially capable of locking down 5 people while dealing damage Malzahar can only dream of. Why pick Malzahar when you can take Lux, Annie, Veigar, hell even Brand, they can all lock down 1-5 people and deal a massive amount of damage to multiple targets. You may say "well Malz deals a lot of damage to ONE person whereas these people focus on multiple people" but that is not true! While yes Malzahar does deal a bit more damage to a single target it is not enough to justify picking him over those others, not to mention they come with the added benefit of having extremely good teamfight capability.

Im not saying Malzahar is weaker then those other champions, i love Malzahar and he definitely has his strengths, but in the current meta his weaknesses are too prominent or more obvious then those others. Its just over all better to take one of those other champions because at least if hey get behind they still have the teamfighting, whereas if Malz gets behind what can he do other then hold someone in place for 2.5 seconds then die? I actually was going to go through and list all the abilities of those mentioned and a few others to compare them but in doing so i found a lot of things that depressed me. Malzahar out damages a lot of mages, but if you take into account the possibility of hitting multiple targets, mana costs, range, and utility then you find that Malzahar falls leagues (get it?) behind his fellow mages.

Why is this? Because Malzahar is stuck between a DoT mage with an Assassin strategy. He is suppose to pick a squishy and eliminate them instantly, so his DoT is given massive levels of damage in order to accomplish this, but there are a few issues. Not only can he not 100-0 someone who is equally fed because this is toxic gameplay for a mage but he cant even get to the back line reliably as he will be focused and his Ult cancelled anyways. He has no form of mobility so he is heavily zoned out by the front line, who built enough MR to shrug off his damage. He can't poke because his mana costs are so ridiculously high 1-2 spells means he is no longer capable of his full combo, which forces him into RoA which really really puts him behind in lane, which is bad... because he wants to kill his opponent in lane very fast and get fed before he is made irrelevant.

This is where my rework comes in, i plan to remove the Assassin part from Malzahar. I want to turn him into a true DoT mage, but i want him to excel at sustain and zoning. I want to turn "gotta W+E+R to insta kill them or i lose" into "I need to use Q and E and W and R to pressure, zone, and possibly kill them" i want his focus to be pushing them out of lane and him staying in lane. So now the moment you have all been waiting for my rework!!!!
######watch me do all this build up only for it to hella suck lol

http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.15.1/img/passive/AlZahar_SummonVoidling.png #Summon Voidling

  • After casting 4 spells, Malzahar summons an uncontrollable Voidling to engage enemy units for 20 seconds. Voidlings have 200 + 50 x lvl Health (+15% of Malzahars Maximum HP) and 20 + 5 x lvl Attack Damage (plus 5% of Malzahars Bonus AP). If two or more Voidlings attack the same enemy champion 2 second will be added to their timer, this effect can only stack up for a maximum of 6 extra seconds. Voidlings Grow after 7 seconds (+50% Attack Damage/Armor), and Frenzy after 14 seconds (+100% Attack Speed).

  • Malzahar gains 5 Magic Penetration for each summoned Voidling. This is increased to 7 Magic Penetration for each Grown Voidling and 10 Magic Penetration for each Frenzied Voidling.

http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.15.1/img/spell/AlZaharCalloftheVoid.png #Distorted Worlds
Range: 900/400
Cost: 70/75/80/85/90 Mana
Cool Down: 10 seconds

Malzahar opens two portal to the Void, dealing magic damage to everything caught between after a 0.5 second delay and temporarily distorting dimensions for a few seconds afterwords leaving a lingering wall of Void energy for 1.5 seconds. All enemies hit by the initial damage will be silenced for 1.2/1.4/1.6/1.8/2 seconds. The wall of Void energy will deal damage to anyone who walks through it and prevents anyone from dashing or leaping through or over it.

Initial damage does 50/80/110/140/170 (+60% of his AP) as magic damage, walking through the wall of Void energy will deal an additional 30/45/60/75/90 (+30% of his AP) as magic damage.

http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.15.1/img/spell/AlZaharNullZone.png #Void Zone
Range: 800/250
Cost: 80 Mana
Cool Down: 14 seconds

Malzahar creates a zone filled with Void energy for 5 seconds dealing magic damage every second to all enemies standing in it. If an enemy champion stands in Void Zone for all 5 seconds they will be afflicted with an Extreme Malefic Visions. Extreme Malefic Visions does not bounce and will only return Health and Mana if it kills its target; Extreme Malefic Visions will stack with Malefic Visions.

Void Zone deals 2/3/4/5/6% (1% for every 200 AP) of target's maximum health per second as magic damage. Extreme Malefic Visions deals 15/25/35/45/55 (+10% of his AP) Magic Damage per half second for 5 seconds. If the target dies to Extreme Malefic Visions it will return 25/35/45/55/65 health and 15/20/25/30/35 mana. Void Zone is capped at 120 damage for minions and monster

http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.15.1/img/spell/AlZaharMaleficVisions.png
#Malefic Visions
Range: 650
Cost: 65/70/75/80/85 Mana
Cool Down: 15/13/11/9/7 seconds

Malzahar infects the target enemy's mind, dealing magic damage every half second for 4 seconds. If the target dies during this time, Malefic Visions will pass to the nearest enemy, refreshing the duration and adding a stack of Void, enemy champions count as 3 stacks of Void.

Malzahar can recast Malefic Visions to instantly deal magic damage and consuming all stacks of Void to regain health and mana. If Malefic Visions does not kill an enemy or fails to be passed on, all stacks of Void will be lost. Recasting Malefic Visions does not cost Mana

Malefic Visions deals 10/15/20/25/30 (+10% of his AP) magic damage per half second for 4 seconds, if it is recasted it will instantly do 20/30/40/50/60 (+15% of his AP) as magic damage and consume all stacks of Void. If the target dies during this time Malzahar gains a stack of Void, each stack returns 10/20/30/40/50 health and 5/10/15/20/25 mana.

http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.15.1/img/spell/AlZaharNetherGrasp.png #Nether Grasp
Range: 800
Cost: 100 Mana
Cool Down: 130/115/100 seconds

Malzahar locks down the target enemy champion and channels for up to 2.5 seconds, suppressing them and dealing them magic damage every half second while the channel holds. If an enemy champion dies before Nether Grasp ends, a Frenzied Voidling will spawn for 21 seconds.

Malzahar can recast Malefic Visions while suppressing enemy champion without it cancelling the tether. Any Malefic Visions including Extreme Malefic Visions will instantly be passed to that champion. It will cost Mana and put Malefic Visions on cool down, it will also remove all stacks of Void without returning Health or Mana. Can not be recast if Malefic Visions is already on cool down.

Nether Grasp deals 50/80/110 (+25% of his AP) magic damage every half second for 2.5 seconds.

Ok so there ya go, there is my rework. Im sure you noticed i didn't change much and that is because despite all my bitching and complaining i do really love Malzahar's kit! I just think he is outdated :( he is a relic of ancient times when Immobile Mages were Kings, now he is nothing more then his Suppress. This kit puts more emphasis on his ability to lock down a lane and push hard without removing his weakness to mobility. Yes his Q now stops dashes and leaps, but it does not stop flashes or teleports such as Katarina's or Ezreal's. It also forces him to pay attention to his Malefic Visions so he cant just mindlessly throw it on a minion wave and watch it go bye bye while he gains a ton of Mana, but it also helps him stop his wave clear because he normally pushes waaay too hard. I normally have a lot of issue with Null Zone as it is either worthless or has a lot of hidden power, i feel i sort of solved this with my Void Zone. It doesn't do as much damage in max health and rewards good placement and timing on ult better. My Nether Grasp is pretty much the same although i do like my change to Malefic Visions being able to be recasted. Malzahar still has fairly high mana costs so its highly doubtful you will have the mana to recast. But if you do you need to decide whether you should lose all the sustain for a kill. It gives Malzahar a lot more versatility and gameplay, it might cut down on his counterplay a bit, but ill leave that up to you guys to decide, obviously since i made it im a little blind to its flaws.

Anyways thank you for reading if you got this far and i really appreciate any feedback.

I find him fine how he is but this is a really cool rework. Also you should keep the voidlngs 1 to 1 bonus ad ratio. :D

Stephenizgod1 votes

My only issue with out him currently is his out dated style, it can't exist in a healthy manner in the current League. Which is why he is given such obvious weaknesses, with the amount of mobility there is its hard for Malz to keep up with someone like Annie or Lux who just offer so much more for the entire team.

Oh i forgot to put in that the Voidlings stats are virtually the same.

This is a werid thought but if you e while you ult it applys automaticly whoever you ult without cick them since as you can see you need to get closer than your ult max range to use your e during it.

I really like how you made the grasp brings all of malz's madness converge on that target. Also you made the current riots trend of adding in minigames by the void stack. well done

Alright, prepare yourself, wall of quoted text incoming, I have a lot to say about this.

First off, you're right, Malzahar needs a rework: his gameplay is unhealthy, he is stuck into one playstyle, one build path, really boring and not a safe pick at the moment, and there is no buff or nerfing or itemization changes that will help him.

That being said, I think you hit the nail on the head for a part of what he's missing as a champion, but let me go through and point some things out.

|Stats|-----------| |- |HEALTH| |514.4 (+80)| |HEALTH REGEN.| |5.42 (+0.55)| |ATTACK DAMAGE| |54.7 (+3) | |ATTACK SPEED| |0.625 (+1.36%)| |MANA| |325.6 (+45)| |MANA REGEN.| |6 (+0.8) |MAGIC RES.| |30 (+0)| |ARMOR| |21.88 (+3.5)| |RANGED| |550| |MOV. SPEED| |340|

This mostly makes sense, except I'm wondering if with the pumped damaged and CC you've given him will make his base 340 movement speed seem a bit over tuned.

Ok, this is a big buff to the Voidlings (as if they weren't annoying enough u_u). I'm wondering if some of these changes will be a bit overtuned though; I like the additional time from attacking enemy champions and the +5 Magic Penetration (might need some tuning too) but the Hp and Ad scaling of the voidlings seems like a bit much to me.

Imagine Malzahar builds Roa, Liandries, and Rylai's, he has about 2.5-3k HP, and 300-400 AP, 30 minutes in and he is level 14. Voidlings have as much as 1200 HP and 160 Damage Auto Attacks Each, not including the bonuses after x amount of seconds. Seems like a bit too much, but can be tuned, like I said. Other than that, this change is good.

Same thing, with the tuning; late game this ability alone can deal 110% of Malz' Ap + 330 under CC: Holy crap. 800 Ap = 1210 Damage, plus the already overtuned voidlings.

I'm gonna stop there because this is getting lengthy and all I have left to say is what I've already said: Malz needs a change, but other than putting him on steroids. I like your kit changes, but the scalings and the way his abilities stack with one another is kind of ridiculous, not to mention the reseting ultimate he now has haha.

I think the only way to find out if 340 MS is too much is to actually implement the changes. I can see how it might be too much with the added utility ive given him, he might be a bit too fast with his new reliability. Then again it might also not be an issue, it might be a perfect balancer for removing some of the extra damage i put in.

Ye it might be a bit much, but i wanted to add in more build options like a Voidling build path that is not AD. It could be overtuned, it most likely is, but i think im showing here "Look you can rely on a Voidling build path if you do get ahead". Your entire playstyle would need to change in order to make Voidlings a legitimate option, thus giving Malzahar a variety of play styles and roles.

Same thing, with the tuning; late game this ability alone can deal 110% of Malz' Ap + 330 under CC: Holy crap. 800 Ap = 1210 Damage, plus the already overtuned voidlings.

True i might have put a bit too much damage here for what it offers, im going to tone down the damage and scaling on the first hit and tune down the damage of the second damage.

I appreciate your feedbakc, id love to go through any more problems you can see. The resetting Ultimate might be too much since he offers a lot more utility and sustain now. Which abilities stacking is ridiculous? If i can fix it to balance it more then id like to.

If Malzahar gets reworked, I would like to see him become more voidling focused.

Passive: Same as is. Apply on-hit maybe? Q: Change damage. W: Voidlings gain MS on it. Change damage. E: Change damage. R: Change damage, but make it give 4 stacks (instant spawn voidling) and all voidlings become frenzied.

Stephenizgod1 votes

My problem with a Voidling based Malzahar is something similar to Yorick, a boring kit that has no other purpose then to annoy the enemy. There is no skill involved because you cant control them, so basically all you need to do is stand there and get minions off. I dont like how Malz is currently where all Voidlings are is a small damage boost, you dont even really need to rely on them (mostly because of how unreliable hey can be). I want to change it so he can use them for more then bonus damage, i want them to be an actual piece of his playstyle. A Voidling Malzahar would be an interesting build path but id rather it not be his entire play style.

kile1472 votes

Malzahar was hovering near 54% win rate for awhile there, and has only recently fallen to 52.6%. He is definitely not in need of buffs, and is plenty strong at the moment. He is the immobile equivalent of Katarina, being a nightmare in solo queue against unorganized teams, but falling off once people figure out he is hard countered by item 3140 and grouping up.

Stephenizgod1 votes

Well everyone jumps to QSS but its also any form of CC other then Roots and Slows that shuts him down. Yea i know, Malzahar is strong for sure (my main pick into Zed or Katarina although Zed is harder to deal with) but that doesn't mean he doesn't need work. His kit is either highly unfun to play against or you know how to play against it and you make him useless. Its old Morde all over but on a lesser scale, i definitely do NOT want them to do to Malz what they did to Morde. Thats why i proposed changes that more solidify his identity as a DoT mage with zoning potential without really touching his weakness to CC and QSS.

MalzaharAnyLane1 votes

Malzahar wants you to buy QSS and delay your damage.

His ultimate is anywhere from a half to a third of QSS so it's literally not a problem to just leave and come back later to try again with a 48-60 second ult CD.

kile1471 votes

If it was just your ult that'd be true, but against some matchups you end up not being able to get away because they cleansed your E and R, more than halving your damage. Not saying it's a perfect counter, but it makes him a lot weaker than it does most champs.

MalzaharAnyLane1 votes

Positioning or simply choosing a different target fixes this.

If enough MR or a couple QSSes are spread across the team enough for it to be a problem, just buy a void staff and melt/lockdown the tank instead while telling your team to run past the tank and engage their backline...

QSS only changes target prioritization, by the time anyone actually has it, you shouldn't still be forced to duel them while behind on gold.

WarlockLaw2 votes

I have no idea what you are doing on Malzahar but he deals a shit ton of damage. He should be able to kill damn near any champion in the game with a full combo, with exceptions on a few mr stackers and heavy tanks. Even without being ahead he should be able to one combo any squishy champion.

Stephenizgod1 votes

Yes he does but a lot of the time the damage is not what it says it is, such as the examples i gave above which are quite common. Not only that but just dealing a ton of damage doesn't make him healthy. Yes he does do a lot, but so what? So does Annie, so does Lux, so does Viktor, so does Brand, and so does any assassin. The difference between them is all those champions can deal all their damage to multiple people, have more reliable damage, and are safer in how they deal that damage. So why pick Malz who is by far one of the more risky Mages due to his weakness to Mobility and CC.

My goal here is not to increase Malz's damage but give him an identity to separate him from the other mages. I love his kit but i just find that other champions are better for the team overall then he is. Its safer for me to pick Talon and utterly destroy lane rather then pick Malz and hope they dont pick a Lux or Annie to bully me out of lane and make me useless. Malz needs to be a viable option due to more then just damage.

WarlockLaw1 votes

You pick Malzahar because a single champion cannot dive him. He has two point and click abilities, one that shouldn't miss and one that is hard to dodge (especially when suppressed). You can also pick him when you want one of, if not the best, pre 6 mage wave clears in the game.

The only reason I even said he has a lot of damage is because I have never had trouble killing people with him unless I was behind them in gold and/or they had been stacking mr.

Stephenizgod1 votes

Ok but the same can be said for Annie, Lux, and Brand. Dive them wrong or by yourself and you get stunned or rooted. Brand's waveclear is better, he has shorter cool downs and lower mana costs plus burst so he can instantly clear. Malz gains mana back but he has no control over his E, Brand can pick and choose when he wants to clear.

Most of my issue is teamwork, the reason i find myself behind is because my team never peels or even cares if i go down. They are use to champions like Lux, Annie, Ahri, Vik, etc. who can all peel for themselves and can deal with someone jumping on their face without blowing 90% of their mana and their ult. Those champions also happen to deal burst damage from afar so their usefulness is more apparent and therefore they care a bit more about them. Not to mention all those champions can make a huge difference in an unfavorable teamfight through various forms of CC or utility, if we need to retreat i cant be sitting their ulting someone because ill get left behind.

Just because someone works doesn't mean they are ok in their current form. I love Malzahar and i really hate it that his identity is so muddled, he can be replaced with any other mage and it most likely wont make much of a difference.

WarlockLaw1 votes

Malzahar's wave clear is second to post 6 Anivia and nobody else, so don't even try and say Brand is better. It isn't hard to control his e, it goes to closest and that plus a voidling clears a wave. Afterwards you spent almost no mana because of the refund you just got.

As for getting dived and blowing most of your mana and an ult, idk why your mana pool is 20x smaller than mine. Additionally that should kill the diver without team help and, at least it does when I play Malzahar.

Without a heavy jungle presence Malzahar should win lane against everyone as long as you play safe. He pushes harder than everyone but Anivia and he can kill towers faster than most mages, exceptions being Ziggs, Azir and possibly Heimer.

More importantly than his current state buffing his damage would break him in half if he gets to keep his suppression ultimate. Just imagine if we buffed Warwick's on hit passive damage by 10. Neither are great outside of soloq but they are teetering on an edge between zero counterplay broken champs and stays so low they never do anything. If you want work done on Malzahar to make him a more common pick he needs either a new ult or suppression needs to get rebalanced across the board

Giving Malzahar damage is a terrible idea because his base damage and scalings are all incredibly high, thats why my rework focuses on lower some damage and giving him more zoning potential which in turn will give him more reliable damage over time, which fits his DoT mage theme.

You say Malz can push against anyone but both Lux and Annie are capable of stopping him with their longer range, Viktor can clear the back line with an E and destroy the front line in the process. Yea Malz can do it for little mana but early game this requires more time then those other champions.

The suppression ultimate is part of Malzahar's legacy, i think he absolutely needs to keep it in some shape or form. In order to do this you would need to take power from his other abilities and make it more situational or require more mechanical skills to pull off, which i think is fine. Malz doesn't require all that much skills because you can AFK farm mid game with your E and once you learn the timing of Q its very easy to land. W is hidden OP, no one really knows how much damage it does, all they know is they shouldn't stand in it. If we add in more decision making and more utility+sustain we can make it so Malzahars overall power isnt touched, his weaknesses are still there, but he offers more to he game then a suppress and a silence.

I've out pushed all of those champions as Malzahar, though not post buff Lux, before either of us backed for items. Then I continue pushing so hard they can't apply any kill pressure without losing a lot of cs. Ideally I go 0/0/0 for the first 10 minutes but have a considerable cs lead them use the mid lane pressure and minor zone control to gain map control.

He also offers more to a fight them a suppress and a silence as he should be removing one opponent from every team fight he participates in, making every 5v5 a 4.5v4 instead.

i could be wrong but i feel like my rework better rewards that kind of playstyle, thats sort of what i aim for depending on who im laning against. Like Ahri i will try to kill early because i know i can, i probably get 1-2 kills on her before 10 minutes unless their jg camps, but even then if its a squishy jg like Yi i can get a double if they play it wrong. The issue is im not really rewarded for his because i buy RoA and hit no powerspike, i could get a needlessly large rod but then im squishy for when she hits 6 and can engage with jg better. I feel like if he had more utility he would be rewarded better for playing safe or aggressive not so much with more power but with a way to stay ahead if he gets ahead or stay safer if he is still playing it safe.

Because Brand has always been a mediocre copy of Malzahar.

There are differences between the two but they are especially minor. Some people need a spammable stun and free undodgeable %HP AOE, others are skilled enough to actually use the silence on Q to soft engage in duels or teamfights.

Malzahar has obvious weaknesses despite the capability of playing any position, and is not OP or unhealthy in any of them.

Additionally, I can crush Lux or Annie unequivocally, so you clearly haven't hit Malzahar's skill ceiling yet. That actually takes a couple years to do, much like Anivia, and there's new tricks you're forced to learn in a mobility meta that Brand and Xerath can't do, and Orianna or Syndra don't need to do.

Brand and Malzahar are two different champions with two different styles. Malz is DoT Assassin and Brand is AoE Burst. His passive happens to be a DoT but thats like saying Cass is the same as Teemo.

A lot of people are misunderstanding me, i don't think he is useless and i dont think he is Old Morde Toxic, but i do think when he is strong it is unfun to play against him and when he isnt strong he feels sort of lackluster. It is possible to do well with him but he is so easily countered by good cooperation of the enemy team, which puts him behind Brand, Annie, Lux, etc in reliability and safety.

I've been playing Malzahar since season 3 and for the most part i played him non-stop, the three champions i have always had the most trouble with are Lux, Annie, and Fizz. A smart Lux will always be out of range, her shield has the potential to block 90% of your E's damage so even if you bounce it to her she can block it, her Q, W, E , and R all out range you so she can easily poke you down from afar. Annie is less ranged but her damage and stun are deadly for Malz, this match-up basically comes down to you ulting before she ults you, even so if you time it bad her stun will hit and cancel your ult. Tibbers cast at max range with his AoE stun out ranges Malz's ult so she can technically ult at max range and win the fight that way. Fizz's untargetability means he can dodge silences and throw his ult before you ult him to knock you out of it. Plus if he hits you you are dead.

Yes if you play smart you can win any match-up but the same goes for them and those champions have a kit advantage over Malzahar. Its the same as fighting a Katarina as Malzahar, yes you are her natural enemy but if she plays smart she can win that lane, Zed is the same. Your skill level plays a huge part in your laning, but they do not have to try as hard since they naturally have an advantage.

Imho all he needs is to be able to charge voidlings with autos and give him a hard cap on them. Ad malz is best malz

Stephenizgod1 votes

I don't like AD Malz i also don't like a Malz that is reliant on Voidlings, id prefer he use them as part of his kit rather then using his kit for the Voidlings.

Hotlin3 Fling1 votes

I like being able to have voidlings doing one camp while I'm doing another

Lol me too but i can do that without being AD Malz

Can we not rework a champion that honestly does not need it?

Stephenizgod1 votes

Says who? Like ive said just because he isnt OP or UP doesnt mean he cant use some work. Yorick isnt OP or UP and yet they want to rework him, his kit isnt toxic if you know how to deal with it, and its strength and weakness depends on how you use it. Still Yorick needs a rework because he has no identity, i personally feel Malz needs a rework because his identity is too muddled up with other Mages. I think he needs to have his own identity within the mage pool other then "this one has a suppress".

Yorick's gameplay is seen as so bad they removed him from champion rotation...

And a DoT that restores mana on kill and spreads to push a lane. A percent health shredder. An AOE silence skill shot.

He is very, very unique and very much has his own identity.

Yes individual mechanics are different but their purpose and role is not that much different then other mages. The only thing original about Malzahar is his Malefic Visions. %hp damage is so common now its almost a must have on new champions and an AoE CC ability is hardly unique.

His kit is old, look at the new mechanics being brought into the game he could use some of those to help solidify his role as a DoT mage, by reinforcing the strengths of this rather then having him focus on "gotta blow that one person up then leave" because unlike other mages thats all he can do.

Bears Dont Care1 votes

Percent aoe damage in an aoe? He is one of the only mages capable of removing half a bar with a single ability, andone ofthe few with an aoe silence that is long lasting. Malzahar is fine really. he isnt played due to his ult and mobility issues

Stephenizgod1 votes

he isnt played due to his ult and mobility issues

then he isnt fine... im trying to fix that without changing his ult or giving him mobility. Thats why he needs a rework, his lack of mobility plus his ult making him stand still in a game dominated by ADC's and Juggernauts. He needs either extreme levels of damage so 2.5 seconds is enough to kill anyone or he needs to change his kit a bit so that he can safely ult someone if he uses his abilities to zone properly.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I play a LOT of malzahar, and have never felt my damage lacking unless I rush a catalyst accidentally. Late game your w does obscene amounts of damage, and q+e on a squishy is a kill provided nobody interferes. Just build a blasting wand first back (with mana pots) and you'll do a-ok.

Even with just a rod of ages you should be able to kill most squishies with e+w+r alone, provided you did acceptably in lane (and you're malzahar, so there's pretty much no excuse not to).
