Daily reminder that we still have no "future of Evelynn" discussion

And we were promised one by Meddler.

Also no new PBE changes for her. I bet they're gonna go "10 damage was good enough" and forget about her for another year, after gutting her W for no reason.

Evelynn still has a future? That's news to me!

Seems like it. It is rather disappointing.

To be fair, that 10 damage is quite large early-game. It was a 33% increase in her base damage at level 1.

I still don't agree with the random W nerf, but the fact of the matter is that I barely notice the lost speed most of the time. My guess is that they wanted to remove it because it was kind of hard-to-notice hidden power, and to instead shift that power over to somewhere clearer.

I think Eve is actually in a reasonable spot right now, more because of jungle changes (especially the ones in 5.5) rather than changes to herself. She could maybe do with a small buff still, but nothing too major.

They THOUGHT IT WAS A BUFF. They literally called it a buff, watched her winrate drop, and went "lol oops our bad, here have 10 damage"

I got to gold with pre-W-nerf Eve. She got nerfed a day later. I could no longer stick to or run away from things without changing my build (which resulted in less kills and more deaths). I stopped playing Eve, because I refuse to rush iceborn gauntlet every single game just to stick.

I don't think she's in a good spot. That 10 damage is pretty much meaningless after her first clear (because after her first or second Q, all the rest will miss as the enemy runs away and stays out of range)

EDIT: I actually refuse to play her and refuse to play ranked until she's fixed. Or until season 6 rolls around.

Are you playing her AD or AP, assassin or tank?

I've been playing AP Evelynn since season 1. I stopped playing her in season 5 because of all her nerfs and because the jungle strength made it almost impossible for her to jungle, forcing her into a weird AD-tank instead of an assassin.

With 5.5, I finally felt that AP assassin Evelynn was viable again, because the reduced monster damage let her actually clear the jungle. Then 5.6 came with its odd changes. I really liked the passive, even liked the cooldown mechanic on W, but did feel the loss of the movement speed a bit, maybe lost a kill or two on people who were able to run away, but it wasn't a really huge deal.

The thing is, if you're building AD Eve, then of course you need to stick to the enemy to autoattack them a lot, since you don't deal that much damage with your spells, especially if you doing a tanky-bruiser build.

In other words - the W nerf hit AD Eve much worse than it hit AP Eve. AP Eve doesn't really notice it that much, while the release of Luden's Echo has vastly increased her power (and also increased her sticking power, since it gives movement speed to compensate for that lost on W's passive.)

Before the W nerf I was building magus, triforce, ludens, ionian boots -> 2 tank items (usually banshee + randuin).

I'm not sure why you're not noticing the missing movespeed as much. You're not just losing 80 movespeed late-game. You're actually losing 136 movespeed (W flat 80 movespeed multiplied by 1.7, the W active, because yes, it stacks). And with my build, I'm losing 148 movespeed -> 80 * (1 + 0.08 (triforce) + 0.07 (ludens) + 0.7 (W active) ) = 80 * 1.85 = 148. (This is all before soft-caps are applied)

I mean, if you're deleting people with AP Eve with one E -> Q, then yeah, I can see why you're not missing the movespeed. But with my build I'm still basically an assassin, it just takes me 1-2 seconds to 100-0 someone. And even with all those movespeed items, I can't anymore. After the first Q they start running, and my Qs start missing. I basically can't kill anything if I can't insta-delete it the moment I appear. Which is kind of a problem.

Selling ionian boots for a zephyr if I have tons and tons of extra gold is also no longer an option, because I have no actual flat movespeed to get multiplied by all my % movespeed bonuses if I do that.

Sacrificing early jungle clear and taking movespeed quints also isn't really an option. Because, again, those are % movespeed bonuses, and what Eve lost was a ton of FLAT movespeed, which works in conjunction with % bonuses. She'd still feel like shit with MS quints.

And no, it doesn't really have much to do with auto-attacking either. My build is hybrid. And every time I build like that, my damage is 66%-ish magic and 33%-ish physical. And a ton of that physical damage is from E and triforce proc, not AAs.

PS: if you're playing properly, the cooldown mechanic is garbage. I don't know why you'd "like" the cooldown mechanic on W. 9 times out of 10, it's going to reset on a kill before it ever resets from spellcasts.

Usually, I should have a little bit of the active speed boost from my W left after I engage on someone, and so am able to stick with them so long as they don't get rid of me (e.g. Caitlyn's net or Vayne's Condemn). Yes, I've had people get away because the combination of reduced movement speed and slow Q travel time means that they can escape if they can make a bit of space between us, but it doesn't happen that often. I'd actually be okay with her losing her W to allow a bit more escape / counterplay for her enemies, but she needs a little bit more compensation in other areas for the loss.

As for the reset mechanic, that's useful in the cases where you are teamfighting and can't quite close on someone that you want to kill - you can run in, ult the entire team (-5 seconds), smite and E someone (-1 second), then hit a few Qs through the enemy team (hitting multiple targets) to almost instantly fully reset the W. This allows you to run in, do some nice AoE damage while your shield lasts, possibly assassinate a high-priority target if you are lucky, and then run away so that you can come back in later and clean up.

I have anyone with a gapcloser escape me when they never used to be able to. Rek'Sai, Zed, Nidalee, Fizz, Master Yi, Hecarim, Ezreal....... <insert every single other champion in the game with a gapcloser here>. I used to be able to (barely) stick to champions like this. Now I can't.

And the fact that I can't stick to them also means I die if they are more fed than me, because I can't run away from them (and in a 1v1 my W will not reset from spellcasts before I'm dead, because if they're more fed than me they are doing HUGE dps). With old W I could kite them and run away.

[{quoted}](name=Nameless Voice,realm=EUW,application-id=3ErqAdtq,discussion-id=U7Ixm7hR,comment-id=00020000000000000000,timestamp=2015-04-12T19:10:20.223+0000) As for the reset mechanic, that's useful in the cases where you are teamfighting and can't quite close on someone that you want to kill - you can run in, ult the entire team (-5 seconds), smite and E someone (-1 second), then hit a few Qs through the enemy team (hitting multiple targets) to almost instantly fully reset the W. And if you successfully assassinate that high priority target, your spellhit CDR mechanic is now useless, because the kill just got you a reset anyway.

And if you don't successfully assassinate that high priority target.... The +130-150 extra movespeed on your old W would have still gotten you out safely. You just wouldn't have been able to go back in right away.

The number of situations where the new W is better are VERY limited (basically limited to "I did a bad engage, didn't kill my target, and got hit with a 90% slow"). It doesn't make up for the countless situations where the new W is much much worse than the old one.

Eve is still good now though

they also probably won't buff her without a rework since she's cancer

What udyrwwyi stated, the new W was a huge nerf. It hinders the ability to stick, hinders the ability to escape, and overall is a bad change. It should have been reverted, especially when it was stated that it didn't work out the way it should have. 10 more base damage on Q does not make up for being unable to stick to a target.
