How do you beat cho gath mid?

He has sustain enough to handle harass, and the last buff to his ultimate makes it feel like he is always at 6 stacks. Also, he does obscene damage , and most of the times you go OOM trying to kill him.

You can beat him by farming. You need to be a mobile or ranged champ to avoid his poke and try to get him oom before you. Its in strategy not so much in composition. You can poke him but you have to double-tap him to counter his sustain. And you have to have patience. Its more important to out farm him than it is to kill him. Wait for ganks and get really far ahead when you get kills on him.

I play with a gold cho-mid main and that is the one scenario he always loses to. Play passively and just worry about getting more farm than him and using less mana than him. Avoid the pokes and have patience.

Most AP mids can't actually farm as well as Cho, and making him run oom is not really an option. He regains mana by last-hitting.

Anyway, use pokey mid-laners with high damage to counter Cho, like Vel'koz or Cass.

1st, and most importantly: Stay mobile. Dodge the Ruptures. They hurt. In more than one way.

2nd, and this is the same more top and mid Cho: Any Cho lane is more like a farm lane than a kill lane. If you have the chance, use a champion that scales well with lots of farm, like Karthus (just don't channel Requiem in plain sight, please) or Anivia (bring MS quints and 3 points in the utility MS). Or use a champion that has equal or even higher sustain than Cho, i.e. Morgana (also, doesn't get as screwed by Rupture). Third possibility is a tank-buster mage, like Malzahar (don't use ult if Rupture is below you) or Brand.

3rd possibilty is to use a non-traditional mid laner. Like Tryndamere.

4th, don't try to kill him alone.

5th: Don't play Katarina .

cho mid? he's pretty manageable. dodge his rupture and harass him from range. he's pretty strong against squishy melees though, definitely wouldnt' pick an assassin into him.

not entirely true. assassins with high burst damage cut him down before his high damage abilities come off of cooldown. Zed pokes safely with his shadow and then if you get under 50%, it's a guaranteed kill for him. Talon ults to make an invisible assault on you and you die unless farming under tower (which chogath is actually pretty good at, but that still means the lane is frozen there because you can't advance.

chogath is also very vulnerable to ganks from say the nidalee in the bush with her lethal Q or lee sin early or various others

You don't really, unless you get ganks only way to kill him after 6 I hate that champion.

Yeah, I think it is time to ban him.

Cho lanes are either stalemate or he wins hard. He CANT lose lane no matter what.

Just pick someone that sets up ganks easily or outscales him because u won't be harrassing him down anytime soon

If you want to actually fight a Cho'Gath in lane rather than farm peacefully, you can't afford to half-ass it like you would with other champions. Cho's sustain means you have to actually focus him down hard in order to get him to leave or back away from farming. Garen is cited as one of Cho's hardest counters because Garen can man-fight him. If you just occasionally poke a mid Cho like you would a typical mage, you aren't going to make a dent because Cho'Gath is built to waveclear, last-hit, and sustain by farming. If you dodge his Q, you can easily fight him from range... Just don't let him heal up. If you can't commit to beating Cho to death (or you're bad at dodging Ruptures and he's actually beating you to death), just farm as best you can. If you're ranged and you can dodge Ruptures, you get free farm until your jungler shows up to kill Cho because he always pushes because of his E + he's immobile.

TL;DR: Commit to killing him or commit to farming when you're against Cho'Gath. Dodge Rupture, and you'll be fine.

look at the favoured matchups for Cho.

http://www.championselect.net/champions/chogath Garen's listed as a Cho counter for a reason.

The reason behind Garen actually having a low winrate versus Cho'Gath is because

  1. People think they can randomly pick a counter to any champion and win without actually knowing how to play the counter well. Galio is a suitable counter to most AP champions, but that doesn't mean you can simply pick up Galio for the first time and expect to do well versus any ranged mage— you'll likely get stomped because you'll miss your Q and spam your E too much, plus you won't know the best times to use your ultimate. If someone was to randomly try to pick up Garen for the first time to counter a Cho, he/she would probably not realize that Cho's E can cancel Garen's passive from range, fail to use Garen's Q to dodge Ruptures, not factor in Cho's silence when going in for a Garen Q+W+E combo, etc. and
  2. Garen is a bad pick in general. He works as a Cho'Gath laning counter, but that doesn't make him a good champion for winning games.

Playing Yasuo against Cho'Gath mid worked for me. All I had to do was play super aggressive lvl 1 and then just play passive, buy MR, and farm until I got ahead from ganks. At that point I dominated lane and my team won the game. The most important thing is, obviously, to dodge his abilities. Without Q or W, he's useless because his R doesn't do enough damage to kill you at full HP. Always remember to use summoner 14 or whatever offensive spell you took when you go all in.

Cho'Gath destroys Yasuo by existing only. He must have sucked hard.

3TWarrior1 votes

actually, with yasuo's extremely high early damage, by level 6, he should get a kill against chogath simply because chogath has no escapes. Farm with Q then engage on knockup for instakill crits and chogath can't handle it, all of his abilities have a delay after all and yasuo only needs his auto attacks once he has engaged and the silence will have worn off for when he can't reach and that Q hits for a satisfying kill

Stars Shaper1 votes

you forgot his AoE silence then knockup which basically leaves you at 20% hp

3TWarrior1 votes

lol, i've mained chogath before. the silence is short duration, so you just dodge the Q with only 10% of your health gone (since W won't do a lot of damage for a while to come at low base damage and 65% ap ratio) and once it's up, engage and shut him down while being on the lookout for his iconic foot stomp attack XD
