We need Thunderlord's back-- and my suggestion on what to do with Comet if that were to happen

Edit: It was pointed out to me that Electrocute is getting nerfed. My issue with this is that it's strictly a stat nerf on top of a bunch of other nerfs to domination. That won't solve the underlying issues, it'll just keep the Electrocute champions who aren't Zed from being able to do their job.

While there are several factors contributing to Zed's uncharacteristically safe laning phase despite being a melee assassin, I believe his ability to proc Electrocute from an incredible distance with effectively no resource cost is the most important. Contrast that to a very similar champion such as Leblanc, whose abilities also strike the enemy multiple times in single instances rather than DoT, and she doesn't have the luxury of them interacting incorrectly with Electrocute.

However, I don't think we should nerf him or Electrocute. We should replace it with the original, far-more-versatile Thunderlord's. It would be better for more champions than simply taking Electrocute away from those who use it.

Electrocute treating single casts of both his E and Q as separate was clearly not intended, as you can see by the slight differences between it and Thunderlord's:

  • Thunderlord's allowed for a 3 second window between each attack, for a total window of 9 seconds to apply it. This allowed champions without 3 damaging abilities (or with them on cooldown) the chance to proc it with auto attacks even at level 1. And it counted ticks of damage from DoT spells as separate instances, allowing champions who rely on such damage to apply it as well.

  • Electrocute, however, requires that all three attacks be done within 3 seconds, limiting the pool of champions who can use it drastically. And no longer counts damage from the same ability as separate instances, limiting it even further.

And while some may say it was a problem that so many people brought Thunderlord's, that same problem wouldn't exist today. There other, more effective damage runes for other classes that simply didn't exist when Thunderlord's did. Fighters took Thunderlord's because Bloodlust wasn't great for them, for example.

But I do recognize that such a change would make Comet all but obsolete. My suggestion for that would be to combine Glacial Augment and Comet into a single rune, with the effect:

  • Damaging an enemy (by any means) hurls a comet at their location, slowing them for 2 seconds and dealing damage. Damaging an enemy with an ability or active item effect reduces the cooldown.

And, you know, come up with something to fill that third spot in the Inspiration tree.

Do you not know that Thunderlords was better? Like if the rune is that busted as is, that would just make it out of control. Oh well I miss the days of killing people with jut R with Syndra

The Ecdysiast1 votes

It wouldn't be more busted if more people could use it, and it worked consistently.

Did you not read the friggin Electrocute Rework? 8.16 literally turns Electrocute into Thunderlord's.

The Ecdysiast1 votes

I did not. Someone mentioned it here but I went to Surrenderat20 and could not find it. Do you have the link for me?

Ah, found it. But no, it literally does not.

I outlined the differences in detail, and this is nothing but stat nerfs.

No. It's not. Beginning and end Cooldown on Electrocute are going down.

Current Electrocute:

Basic attacks and abilities generate stacks on enemy champions hit, up to one per attack or cast. Applying 3 stacks to a target within a 3 second period causes them to be struck by lightning, dealing them 50 - 220 (based on level) (+ 50% bonus AD) (+ 30% AP) Adaptive damage. ADAPTIVE DAMAGE: Deals either physical or magic damage depending on your bonus statistics, defaulting to physical damage. Cooldown 50 - 25 (based on level) seconds

New Electrocute:

Basic attacks and abilities generate stacks on enemy champions hit, up to one per attack or cast. Applying 3 stacks to a target within a 3 second period causes them to be struck by lightning, dealing them 30-180 (based on level) (+ 40% bonus AD) (+ 25% AP) Adaptive damage. ADAPTIVE DAMAGE: Deals either physical or magic damage depending on your bonus statistics, defaulting to physical damage. Cooldown 25-20 (based on level) seconds

Now let's compare the second to Thunderlord's Decree:

Hitting an enemy champion with an ability (ability damage) or basic attack (on-hit) marks them with Thunderlord's Decree for 3 seconds. At 3 stacks, the target is dealt 10 - 180 (based on level) +_** (30% bonus AD) + (10% AP) **_magic damage in an area around them.

Cooldown 25 - 15 (based on level) seconds

I want you to look at the cooldowns.

50-25 vs 25-20 vs 25-15.

Which two are the most similar? Oh Right. Thunderlord's Decree and Electrocute 8.16

Is Thunderlord's Decree or 8.16 Electrocute better damage?

well...... 8.16 is:

  • 20 MORE base starting damage, SAME maximum damage
  • 10% MORE Bonus AD scaling
  • 15% MORE AP scaling

What's the ONLY drawback vs Thunderlord's Decree?

Oh right....... a 5 second longer min cooldown......

In exchange for MUCH more damage.

New Electrocute IS the old Thunderlord's in relation to damage and cooldowns.

The only real discrepancy? Persistent effects like Morgana 's Soil would proc Thunderlord's alone.... without other skills. Electrocute takes 2 skills and an auto attack.

You're also wrong about how Thunderlord's used to work. The Marks applied for purposes of Thunderlord's decree EXPIRE SEPARATELY. spacing out hits did NOT allow you to 9 second a Thunderlord's Decree. After 3 seconds, your first mark expires. If there is 2 seconds between your first stack and second, the second stack will expire at 5 seconds.

The best result you could hope for was hitting 3 times within 3 seconds, because of this function.

Electrocute and Thunderlords are the same thing

Did you... did you read the post? I explained the differences in detail.

It now basically does a little more damage than Thunderlord's, but with a higher cooldown at later levels. Thunderlord's has a lower late game cooldown, does AoE damage, and is much easier to proc than Electrocute. It's much better than Electrocute after the nerfs.

So it still won't solve the issue that the pool of champions who can use it was drastically reduced. It's nothing but a strict nerf to Electrocute's current functionality.
