Zac was the last new tank champion riot created back in 2013...

I was curious to see what tanks riot has made recently and no I am not counting Galio and Poppy because those are reworks. I am talking a new champion designed to be a tank. You could count Braum and Tahm Kench but they are mainly supports. I just was wondering when we will see a new tank champion played mainly in jungle or top lane.

Why can't a tank be a support?

Reworks Are OP3 votes

They can, but that seems to be their strongest role right now. I'm just saying its been awhile since we got a new tank champion for other positions tanks play like jungle or top

I would assume the lack of new tanks has something to do with the current reworks. The last two reworked champs, WW and Galio, are both tanks, and their reworks essentially removed the previous champion, and added something new to the game. Then there was the tank gameplay update. Adding a new tank to the game, would be stacking it upon these pretty recent events, lessening the impact of a new tank champ.

Yeah that makes sense but isn't warwick considered just a tanky diver? I feel he does to much dmg to be just a tank

Ralanr2 votes

He's a diver, not a tank.

Sure.

Tank is a class. Support is a role. Tanks can be in several roles - top lane, jungle, or support. Being in any of these roles doesn't remove your tank status.

Braum is a tank who is designed for the support role. Tahm Kench is also a tank designed for the support role. Nautilus is a tank designed for top lane, who is also played support. Thresh is a tank designed for support. Sejuani, Zac, and Amumu are tanks designed for the jungle.

Just because Braum and Kench are played as supports doesn't disqualify them from being tanks.

I get what your saying but I play tanks top and jungle :/ so I just thought it would be nice if they designed a tank for jungle or top its been years since they designed a (edit new tank not the reworked gimp ones) tank for that role. But your right I should of said that ,

Ralanr5 votes

I mean...Tahm was intended to have top lane potential.

That didn't work out, but still.

Though I would like a new top lane or jungle tank.

Reworks Are OP1 votes

Right? and after they made Galio more of a tank I think their next new tank will be more modernized for what League is today, I seem to only have success with Galio or Sion XD

Ralanr2 votes

I've had success with Poppy in the past. Haven't played her on rift in a while.

Reworks Are OP2 votes

Yeah but that's what I mean, most of the playable tanks are just reworks. Don't get me wrong I like those reworks, (look at my name) xD but I just what a brand new refreshing tank champion to play, call me selfish haha

100% behind ya bro.

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

More of riot nerfed him so he couldn't sustain enough to compete with the lifestealing fighters.

Ralanr1 votes

Because it was killing bot lane too much.

Reworks Are OP1 votes

Actually isn't Tahm Kench making a comeback top lane recently in korea? I don't usually keep up with that stuff though xD

Meanwhile the bird couple are steamrolling . . .

I dont get why tanks are not allowed to do damage anymore. Yes there are utility tanks like braum. alistar, leona, and they are supports, because they are naturally tanky and dont scale well with items. But then there are top lane tanks, shen, sion, malphite, poppy they arent supposed to not do damage, because they need items to get tanky.

Reworks Are OP2 votes

Now wouldn't that be cool, a tank that ACTUALLY scaled into the late game, not sure how it would work but that would be sweet!

everyone already forgetting that old sejuani was exactly that

feels bad

Reworks Are OP1 votes

I honestly didn't know that, didn't play a lot of old sejuani. If I knew that would of probably played her more xD

woops!

Tanks are not allowed to deal high amounts of damage because that is not the principle of the role. A tank soaks damage, interferes with opponents by slapping them with snares and CC, and protect their allies. If you had someone who did that AND dealt tons of damage, you would have a massively unkillable threat that will utterly destroy your team because you won't be able to kill them before they kill you. This very reason is why things like Tank Fizz, Tankali, Tankko, and Tankuo were utterly obliterated from the game. Being a damage dealer and being unkillable is extremely unhealthy for the game.

Reworks Are OP1 votes

But uh right now tanks deal no dmg AND are just as squishy as anyone else late game... :/

so why play one?

CC < Damage

Riot hates tanks. The people who spend lots of money play fighters, assassins and marksmen. They don't like is when they can't oneshot something.

Reworks Are OP1 votes

I came to that conclusion too xD

Jorencice1 votes

Psh I'm a whale and I main support.

100% what you play has nothing to do with how much you spend.

couldn't you count Rek'sai pre-rework as a tank released for jungle?

Ralanr2 votes

She was meant to be a damage threat though.

Reworks Are OP1 votes

When I say tank I mean they place the new champ in the tank role page xD meaning they designed that champ as a tank

Big Lincoln1 votes

if rework Zac, Sej and Galio are what we can expect from new tanks then nothing would make me happier if Riot never made another one

Reworks Are OP1 votes

Haha yeah the last 3 were bad but they have had there good tank reworks too, Sion for one, but many say Sion was a great tank rework, but I actually like Poppy's ult and w really make her fill the warden tank playstyle I know her numbers were to high for awhile though.

what about Gnar ?

Reworks Are OP1 votes

riot considers him a specialty type class cause his playstyle changes based on form
