Why is max cdr so easy to get on adcs when it is suppose to be a primary stat on mages?

Reworks Are OP··116 votes·3,062 views

Its not fair they already had the crit stat advantage that mages dont have, but now they get max cdr with one item item 3508 where mages need 2 or more items to get max cd cap? On top of that once this item is gotten ADCs can carelessly use spells to clear waves with no fear of mana usage....

What is the problem anyway mages can build cdr just as easy

Velkoz item 3006 item 3508 item 3046 item 3031 item 3812 item 3036

Voila 40% cdr

Also Vel'Koz has an amazing Crit animation. I don't see Velkoz any problem here.

Essence reaver was an item meant ONLY for caster ADCs like Ezreal Corki Lucian , at least that was the goal. they failed on their execution however and the item is good on literally every ADC in game because they decided to have its item effect revolve around crit, a stat any ADC would want. ironically, casters are less dependent on crit since you know, they cast...

Cherysse3 votes

They should have made it add a 150% of the champ CDR as bonus AD instead, it would have made the item a core item for any AD caster build. The whole item lost's it's sense as it feels weird, it was designed as an item focused on mana sustain, now it is a wreckage.

Because only a few adcs uses cdr. Giving those adcs a choice for cdr brings diversity. You can't compare mages using CDR vs ADCs because mages benefit from it so much more.

there is not a single ADC in this game that would pass up on 30% CDR from 1.2 item you only need a item 3086 to get the extra 20% from its passive. find 10% more CDR from other sources and you are now at 40%.

Doctor Jarvis1 votes

Its a trick question; just upgrade Zeal into Triforce. Now you have full CDR.

ProfDrDeath1 votes

Except that Triforce is not really that useful anymore AFTER building Essence Reaver. Triforce is a strong powerspike for the mid-game on its own, now even more so than before, but not as strong anymore when the game reaches its later stages, due to the lowered stats (AD, AS, MS) and the reduced later-stage base AD on ADCs.

Yes they would?

For better lifesteal and shield. item 3072

For attack speed and hp shred. item 3153

For going against a stun/ap comp. item 3139

For some cd/damage mitigate. item 3812

For spell reliant ADCs - CDR, mana regen. item 3508

I do think it could use a nerf to the CRIT (20% --> 15% or 10%) more so than the CDR.

Since the adc reworks all of them have a different style of play. Not everyone is gonna benefit from the CDR equally as the other lifesteal item choices.

What? A lot of them don't care for it and would rather have IE.

Not everyone is going to go full deep in the item.

Why would Ashe want it? She wants to boost her AA dps.

Jynx wants to hyper carry, extra CDR doesn't help her.

Why would Vayne want this item?

why would vayne want it? lol. ult permastealth? maybe?

Main benefactors of CdR among ADCs:

Graves Lucian MissFortune Corki Ezreal Quinn Varus Sivir KogMaw

Meaning, roughly half of the roster. But you're still right, on most ADCs, it is not one of their three main scaling factors, but rather a supplanting one.

ALL Champions can utilize CDR. Only certain champions benefit from it the most.

No CDR is not useful on some champions.

"Max CDR with one item". 10% from Essence Reaver. 20% maximum from its unique Passive.

Makes 30%. Cap is 40%. What am I missing?

Runes or item 3078

Mages actually only need 2 items. Both of which have easier build paths and give mana sustain before you spend 3600 gold. ADCs need 2-3 items. item 3508 gives 10% after spending 3600 gold and only gives the other 20% if you spend at least 800item 1018 on crit. To get 40% you would need to buyitem 3133 for another 1100 and now you're using 3 items unless you useitem 3078 which makes the crit item item 3086 1200 and the cdr item item 3057 1050. trinity + ER costs 7400, ER + zeal + sheen = 5850. ER + cloak + warhammer = 5500

Mages can get 40% cdr for only 5100 with 2item 3165

The issue most people seem to have is that mages give up too much by buying 2 mana regen items. Mainly due to the fact that void staff, sorc shoes, and deathcap are required leaving only 1 item slot which probably goes to zhonya's.

The Yetii Rider3 votes

CDR was never intended to be the primary stay for mages. Riot explicitly stated that CDR as a stat was created for players who wanted to "specialize" in crowd control, which at the time never scaled with AP, AD, armor or MR.

If you would argue that it's supposed to be "primary" on mages because the majority of CDR itemization have AP, you've clearly never played support. Support items by far have the most CDR diversity. If any role has CDR as its "primary" stat, it's supports and not mages.

Szunray3 votes

On some ADC's CDR is a primary stat. On many mages, CDR is not a primary stat. Besides, the two classes of champions are very different.

Otherwise I could sit here and complain about how unfair it is that mages get defenses thrown in with so many of their items item 3040 item 3157 item 3027 item 3116 item 3001 item 3151 item 3174 item 3060 , which leads to silliness such as Cassiopeia with 1000 AP, 3000 health, a 1000 hp shield, and free spell-vamp.

But then again, mages are prone to_ silliness_ because they rarely function similarly to one another. ADC's you know, at least will build Attack Damage and Crit. Mages though, might stack mostly mana Ryze , or stack defenses Vladimir Ekko , they might never want to buy a cdr item Cassiopeia , some will "like" item 3157 , and some will basically depend on it.

So yeah hard to make sweeping generalizations like that. Trying to balance mages sounds like a nightmare.

ItsStout3 votes

Because ADC's have inherently less use for CDR. Mages scale better with it, so they cant have an item like ER. What they get in exchange is items like Zhonya's or Deathcap.

RisenDarkKnight1 votes

That does't make sense. That's like saying "Mages can get a 75% crit item because they have inherently less use for crit, but adcs scale better with so they can' t have it." Most mages are useless while their spells on are on cooldown and are balanced around being able to reach 40% cdr, while marksman have high dps auto attacks while their spells are on cooldown and were balanced last patch on the basis that most of them never build any CDR at all.

Aquera3 votes

do you know cdr runes? so you need 1 item to get the cap as a mage... it looks like an "i just have 2 runepages"-post

Spoofghoul1 votes

I have my runepage full of magicpen so now what?

Cherysse2 votes

Because RIOT has gone nuts, the programmers played HoTS for too long.

SaltyKracka2 votes

Actually, CDR is a much more important stat on tanks and fighters.

Also, most mid mages get blue buff, so...

Rysophage2 votes

first of all 30% cdr is not max and some adcs are casters like Corki Varus Ezreal Lucian . they depend on their abilities mainly not crits or auto attacks. Also for essence reaver to give that much cdr you have to build crit, which these carries don't benefit fully from. so it's actually sub-optimal. don't see what you're whining about.

Pledgie1 votes

not sure why youre grouping lucian and varus in here. those two are auto attack based, and actually benefit fully from crit, but benefit from cdr as well.

Llanite2 votes

Reaver gives 20% CDR max, plus 10% innate CDR = 30% So they DO need a second CDR item for max CDR.

Fact check before you rant.

BasedJarvan4201 votes

They should've just kept the old ER passive. It was fine and I don't understand why they put crit into it. The item is just overloaded at this point.

Eboksba1 votes

Placed value. This disparity between CDR availability on items is intentional. ADCs rarely can use CDR effectively, thus CDR is worth less and costs less/available more. CDR is basically the attack speed for mages and assassins, resulting in an incredible DPS uppage. The usage of CDR between the two damage formats is distinctly different for this reason, hence more CDR to AD champions who do less, and less to AP champions, which can generally insta kill players per damage cycle. Hybrid champions benefit from CDR particularity, as a bonus of the peculiarity of their builds.

OK, I both love and hate it now.

I used to build it all the time on ADCs. Only reason I didnt sometimes was I would get sick of some noob griping at me Im building wrong.... I swear atleast 5 games were thrown just so some assclown could blame me for building ER... Anyway.

Now I can rush it, still get crit stat, which is important, and the mana sustain.

Here is the problem, the MAIN champ I would build it on was Urgot

Urgot dosnt need crit. Now Im buying a stat I dont need. I usualy build item 3070 into item 3004 and get a item 3042 .

This is good because the active works on his Q. Urgot is an AD caster type. Hes closer to Talon or Rengar in that most of his damage comes from abilities, ranther than repeated auto attacks.

Here is the thing, the Muramana (final form) active puts a huge dent in your mana, and the item 3508 helped keep his mana up. NOW its mana sustain is tied to crits, and I dont need crit on urgot, but the ER isnt very good without other crit.

I always got my cooldown from item 3071 and ER, stoping at 30% as that was good enough. Now the ER is kinda trash, I have to "get lucky" to get mana back, making my Urgot game as a whole much less viable... and believe me thats pretty sad as he isnt exactly top tier. I play him mainly in top lane, and there is some really broken shit up there, and having my mana sustain screwed up really hurts.

So I like it for when Im playing Ashe bot lane, but hate it for the only champ I played top. Id have rather it been left alone as it just "helps" me on one champ, and has me looking for a new top on another.

So final conclusion, item 3508 is kind of a mess now.

Another thing, Im pretty much certain that this patch was the result of a bunch of AD/Marksman biased anti mage bigots who somehow got away with creating a patch that shows how much they love Yasuo Tryndamere. Two champs no one wants to play against, now in every game, massivly buffed from this AD-centric patch.

That said, Urgot a champ that can only do physical damage, made worse in every way this patch because he uses mana unlike Yas and Tryn.
