You will lose someone who has played this game for 5 years.

Do not make Mordekaiser into a tank.

One of the options we're looking at at the moment is whether we should play up Morde's tankier side a bit more. Huge guy in a full suit of armor with a passive that generates a shield suggest tough front line dude. The removal of DFG already shifts him away from bursting down a target almost instantly, our thinking is that offering him a more sustained presence might be a good approach as a result. That's very much an idea being explored right now though, not yet a proven direction.

I play Morde a fair bit, and I don't necessarily think that making him tankier is a bad thing. I enjoy taking him top lane, but I rarely end up being very tanky, at best I'm an off-tank. In my opinion, Morde's problem is poor itemization. In order to charge his shield, Morde needs to do a lot of damage, and there's not a lot of items that offer defensive stats for a mana-less mage. Zhonya's works well, and I build Spirit Visage (maximum spell-vamp) but a lot of options you might otherwise build on tanky mages (Frozen Heart, Rod of Ages, Iceborn Gauntlet) are partially wasted because Morde gains no benefit from the extra mana.

One idea might be to allow Morde to convert mana/mana regen into health/health regen or some other, beneficial stat, which would open up a lot more itemization options.

I dont mind him being TANKY, but being a TANK. is completely different. Morde was so fun because of the raw damage and survivability of his kit. Whats wrong with a mage that is immobile but deals alot of damage?? Why cant't morde just be a mage without 3 flashes in his kit.

Give any sort of grounds for it? His kit is already better off as an AP tank with, as they said, his passive generating a shield which absorbs a LOT of burst damage. It's a free game, I'm sure Riot isn't afraid to lose a couple players on a 60+ million playerbase (just throwing out a number here, I'm sure it's more) in a game that spans world-wide due to a change that makes sense.
