Can Karthus' Ult get a bit more early game damage or maybe a % health scaling?

I've noticed that ulting early game (like when you just hit 6) seems to not kill anyone who has even the slightest bit of sustain. 250 (+60% AP) at rank 1. Anyone low enough to justify using it seems to always be able to just heal enough to survive, or are tanky enough to simply shrug it off. Also, item 3010 is really powerful for spell spammers and is taken quite often (even by karthus). This item is not hard to acquire before level 6 as well. Meaning that AP mids and other champs now have a form of regen as well. Not to mention Warlords Bloodlust, or how every adc starts with 3% lifesteal from item 1055 and possibly more depending on masteries/runes and their current build in-game.

I do not think his ult was made for kill stealing. It seems like it either was intended for starting a conflict or for picking off those who escaped with low health. But with a 200 second cooldown at rank 1, it seems to have a remarkably low kill potential.

Maybe if it was given a passive which ignored some mr (only applied to the ult, not Karthus) similar to yasuo. Or add a % health (max, bonus, or missing target's max, target's bonus, or target's missing) to give it that extra boost. It is such an iconic ability which Karthus is known for (besides his passive). But he is falling behind with the times. MR is being prioritized over AP on mages (item 1057 into item 3001) and item 3157 is cheaper. So he really can't utilize his ult well unless he is potentially kill stealing another laner or if he is killing his own (which makes it being global for the full enemy team kind of a useless attribute because it is being used to only kill 1 target whom which you are directly fighting).

Edit: Another idea could be to make his passive give him a lot of AP when he dies.

No, I think that guy is fine

overall he ends up fine, but that rank 1 ult is really weak. so this could only affect the early game if it were to be changed (not the % health just damage).

Yeah, Rank 1 Requiem is really weak for a reason. And that reason is so manifestly obvious, a player would have to be legitimately :downs:-worthy to not grasp it.

But the cost for using it is not worth it when you likely won't kill anyone, which is why I made the post.

lol karthus is such a useless champion, if anyone loses to him they belong in wood 5

So you're saying that most of the people in my previous match history are weak? Sounds good to me I guess.

His ulti is also rather fine as it is (the "wall" could use a tiny bit of damage, if anything). Anyone who thinks karthus is at all an early-game character really doesn't know how to use him correctly. You pick him for the obscene damage he does lategame, not the average damage he does early.

You go everywhere you think you can put people down... ANYWAY! Karthus does do lots of damage late game but early game he has a fair amount of poke when played agresively. His range outscales quite a few other mages abilities and repetive use because of cd makes it a threat up until level 7-8

Congrats, you offered nothing to the discussion and randomly decided to "stalk" me into this post. The original poster suggested that Karthus' lv1 ulti needs to be tweaked due to a lack of utility. I was trying to suggest that Karthus doesn't "need" any sort of early-game utility as his lategame power is the main draw of him (similar to things like current/pre-"tweak" ryze and anivia, who with 3-4 items can completely obliterate teams if played around correctly). Next time try to find a fault in the point I'm bringing to the table, better yet read the topic first :D.

To further add to the "spitball", Karthus' lv1 ulti sorta fits him well due to when you get it in relation to the game. Oftentimes (at least from my personal experience when playing him), the ulti is something that you can use while doing a roam whilst later on (when laning phase is over) it becomes a massive nuke that forces people to carefully plan around him even if he isn't directly near them (if you've ever played or watched a TF game and seen people use his ulti "just for vision", then you'll know exactly what I'm talking about). Unlike lategame where teamfights are common and the ulti becomes a "nuke", earlygame it is often implied that karthus will more or less follow the ulti to a lane and nab kills/assists with the laners around him.

Karthus ult is generally meant as an execute. Good map awareness is needed to get kills with it. Just grab sorcs if you really want kils with it first back.

well boots first usually means you won't last in lane and 250 +60% AP (of which you may only have like 40 of) is not really an execute. It would need a % health (missing usually) to be considered an execute. Like Jinx's or Garen's ult.

No i was suggesting the boots to deal with your complaints on damage. Mpen 10 from runes 7 from masteries and 15 from sorcs = full damage on enemy carries.

JavelinJoe1 votes

but full damage with minimal ap is still not really too much. And carries just heal anyways before it hits. Either with with lifesteal or summoner 7.

ITT: we pretend that we can't understand why Karthus isn't allowed to score a penta-kill <10 seconds after he hits level 6.
