The armor nerfs are too fucking far.

You're nerfing thornmail, Omen, and Frozen Heart all on one patch. Not one of the nerfs is a minor nerf either, all are major.

This is pretty much all I have to say.

You guys don't see where this is going? WORLDS IS COMING UP.
By nerfing tank items we are in a time where the meta is shifting. They gutted tank meta, and is now an ad/ap assassin meta. By nerfing armor items they are indirectly buffing adc's now. Why you say? WORLDS. They change zed ult shadow from 1 sec to .5 Lee sin ult buff. They want this meta so that pros can make these flashy plays hence more monies.
Just another case of Riot catering to the 5% that play this game than the other 95%,

I wonder if people will get sick of seeing the same old plays with the same old champs and this whole favoritism thing riot does every year will finally bite them. Probably not, but it helps me sleep at night.

why not? they already made mordekaiser into one...

Are people forgetting that Randuins now reduces crit damage by 10%?

Not that does excuse the Randuin nerfs, at least its getting a few compensations.

Yeah, it's total bullshit. They said that they would be minor nerfs but I see armor getting gutted and by extension AD champs getting a huge buff. Also say goodbye to tanks in general...

Icestar11867 votes

Actually, most of them are pretty minor. Small cost increases and/or stat reduction, I think.

frozen heart is getting a minor nerf randuin's is getting a moderate nerf to the point that sunfire cape is starting to become almost equal in value and thornmail is getting 'gutted' though im not entirely sure how much it will hurt overall as it was rarely built in the first place due to lack of stats.

thonrmail rarely built lol

planters5 votes

could you explain that? I honestly rarely see thornmail outside of games where the enemy has all AD laners. Maybe on rammus and taric etc but I honestly cant say Ive seen it as a core item on a that many champions. more a situational purchase if anything.

I build it as a core item on jungle Sion since it stacks well with the gromp buff and I end up with +- 5.8K hp anyway. It gives a nice chunk of armour with an armor-y buildpath and allows me to actually be a threat to adcs.

planters2 votes

valid but why not just build frozen heart? slow them down so you can stick better? do you already build randuins?

Dar Raksada1 votes

I think you mean frozen mallet, not frozen heart (frozen heart doesn't slow movespeed). I sometimes build randuins, depends on my mood and how the game is going. I get righteous glory to stick (e slow into q knockup also helps).

planters1 votes

lol my bad i forgot frozen heart doesnt have the same ms slow like randuins omen. Anyway I see how its important to your build but I still dont see it as pivotal. With what you're describing I'd say it'll hurt it but not on par with he randuin's omen nerf which is a big deal. Though with dead man's plate incoming you could probably just switch the two out and effectively achieve the same thing.

A small stat reduction and a small cost increase. It's like 150 more gold or something. That's not much.

I really , really feel for tanks right now. This is pretty goddamn bad for them. I don't particularly love tanks, but I don't hate them either.

This is kicking them when they're already shambling after being crippled.

StillFigure8 votes

Let this sink in: Frozen Heart is worse than it was back around patch 3.0, where nobody even used it in the first place AND when it still had 20% attack speed reduction.

Amazing, they're making the item the worst it's ever been.

Pretty sure frozen heart is one of the most gold efficient items in the game right now. It deserves a nerf.

So it's bad design to make items that are supposed to do a good job? Wow, I guess we should rework the jungle for the 6th time.

ModAcademy Kayn3 votes

Let's be honest, Frozen Heart was an extremely cost efficient item in the first place.

  • Randuins got nerfed 10 armor.
  • Thornmail was retuned to do the exact same thing on the champs that build it anyway. (No armor nerf btw)
  • Frozen Heart got nerfed 10 armor.
  • There are cost changes that reflect the general losses of armor.
  • a new crit reduction passive on randuins means that full tanks will be harder to kill, and with cheaper items, lower econ tanks will be more common.
  • Just as well the cost changes are meant to mirror the magic resist item costs and levels of effectiveness.
  • The standardization of the randuins slow will make it a much better armor item early and slightly weaker late.
  • Thornmail actually stacks better with resistances now, making it a very good buy for the people who would be building it anyway.
  • Thornmail is now set to do 15% of the damage received + 25% of the wearer's bonus armor as damage. It means that any champion with a natural armor steroid (think Rammus Leona Shyvana) is now set to be even more of a nuisance, which is generally the tankline, while its less effective as a means of an off-build armor buy. (Think adc vayne with thornmail) (And I've seen that shit too so don't tell me it doesn't happen.)
  • I would perhaps use the term power-shift rather than OMGRITONERFTANKSAGAINGGFF20 because these changes don't seem all that bad.
WyldeFyres8 votes

Items didn't get cheaper, all the tank items that got nerfed got more expensive. And on the Thornmail, it's not so much that new thornmail synergizes with stacking more armor, it requires you stack more armor, because that 25% extra damage from bonus armor is peanuts compared to that other 15% reflected AA damage. God help you if the enemy builds Black Cleaver or has a kit with armorshred in it.

3TWarrior1 votes

especially considering most tanks won't have more than 200 or rarely 300 armor by late game because it starts to become an ineffecient stat. 15% of 300 is 45, 15% of a vayne critical's 500(since vayne doesn't build much ad) is 75

15% of a 1000 critical damage before reductions is 150...that's quite a lot for the item to lose over at most 45 in return

3TWarrior1 votes

please read through the post as some of it is my response to you and some of it is my addition to the other reply.

magic resist was never intended to reach the levels of armor: why, because then mages can't do their primary job: being the second highest priority target with high long-ranged damage

now, as for my reply to the other post

I like it actually. Now I won't get countered by a SINGLE FUCKING ITEM (item 3075) whenever I play Quinn or some other AD top laner.

Only Play Darius15 votes

Well seeing as melee tanks have no way of closing the gap on your ranged kitey ass top, item 3075 was the only way we could even hope to do damage to you. Now I guess Quinn Vayne are going to be top every game because nothing can really stop them from right-clicking anymore.

The thing that bugged me about tanks was that they would not build a single damage item, and they would still do more damage then the mid laner, and sometimes the adc. Exhibit A - Udyr and Exhibit B Volibear

Blue Moon Wolf4 votes

I'm going to be making an effort to replace any Item builds I have item 3075 on and replace them with something else... probably item 3068, just in spite of this nerf. I'm hoping if enough people stop using the nerfed Items, riot will realize how stupid the nerfs are and revert them later, but knowing riot, they'll be like "let's nerf the rest of the armor items and buff item 3072, that'll balance everything out"

Puri Puri Taric4 votes

its an overall taric nerf.

Taarki2 votes

"Gutted" Lets do some math. Lets assume the tank rushed thorn mail and has about 150 Armor (100 bonus). The adc will have around 200 AD, so with the 66% AD reduction, the ADC will do around 66 damage to the tank (not including armor pen due to varying degrees from runes/masteries). Before the nerf thorn mail would reflect 30% of the damage before armor came into effect, thus reflecting 60 damage. After the nerf thorn mail reflects 15% (30) and 25% of the tanks bonus armor (25). Add that together and you get 55 damage compared to 60. Looking at the "HUGE NERF" I am surprised that that 5 damage really even means anything to you. Now you might say that that 5 damage stacks many times with an adc that attacks many times. So lets say that the adc attacks you 10 times before you die (because its a teamfight, adc isn't the only one attacking you). that's only 50 damage. Not game breaking by any means. This also makes the item more effective against AP/supports/other tanks. Lets assume that its late game, the enemy apc has 100 AD and you have 300 Armor. They already burst someone else down and kite you using basic attacks while skills are on CD. Thorn mail would reflect 15 damage from the enemy AD along with 75 damage from your armor. That means that for every basic attack the enemy APC/tank/support hits you with, they are doing about a whopping 13 damage (87.5% reduction) and taking about 90 damage back from your thorn mail.

So please before you go complaining about how big the nerf is going to be, actually do the math.

There's a post with actual math showing just how much of a nerf to each it this is.

Your math is bad btw, check that post out.
