Because it's true. Go play ranked if you want balanced teams. That's the point of a ranking system. Hello?

CrypticShantie2 votes

And where exactly do you go to practice a champion? You're trolling if you say bots. You go to norms to play a casual stress-free game. To learn a champion or role. But what's fun or "casual" about some high ELO dude bringing in his high mastery champion in a lane/role he's played hundreds of times in a competitive setting against some low ELO dude just trying to learn?

Arcade Lulu16 votes

This is so frustrating especially if you're not playing your main role/champ and are just trying to learn something new

They do. When I play solo I'm with my normal (d5) rank. The problem is that my friends I queue up with are from mid plat to mid silver elo. So finding a balanced group mmr is.... Rough. Sometimes we get stomped, sometimes we stomp, but it's really the only option to play with them...

How do you propose a normal game match a group consisting of a challenger player and their level 5 friend who is entirely new to LoL?

No friends allowed, huh? Get over it. Go play ranked instead if you want both teams to be equally ranked. Just saying.

The problem isn't with the matchmaking, it's with people who try-hard in games that are being played for fun. A diamond+ player playing their M7 champ like it's the World Finals ruins the experience for anyone trying to enjoy the game casually. People should always strive to win, but some people take it WAAAAAY too seriously in a non-competitive environment.

UnboundHades3 votes

and what if they find playing like that fun? there isnt a "for fun mode" there is normals which doesnt give you rewards for your mmr and ranked which does thats it. they dont need to alter their playstyle from 1 q to another because you dont find it fun

Tomoe Gozen4 votes

How do you define "fun"? It's subjective. There isn't one type of "fun" that everyone needs to conform to. Nor is there a mode where it forbids you to play your highest practiced champs in favor of your least practiced ones.

GigglesO3 votes

Maybe I only really have fun playing 1 champ and I was invited to a bronze game?

Tomoe Gozen4 votes

Maybe. I don't know what to do about these kinds of threads. I understand the frustration but i also understand that Riot doesn't want to tighten the ranked noose around normal games that much because they don't want a ranked mentality being a thing in normals.

Should Riot have ELO transfer from ranked to normals in order for people to "seemingly have" a better experience?

MinnE022 votes

Although I'm not sure, I believe they do because very rarely I'm put with a platinum + player in my normal games and most are around my same rank (silver).

Ok, so a well-ranked player has both arguments against him when he decides to play Normals, is that how it goes? He can't go there to fool around, because he'd be ruining games for casual players from his team that still want to win(but not deal with the pressure of a Ladder system), while he also can't tryhard as he'd be ruining games for people who don't want to lose against him(...I guess?) 1. Some people consider if they aren't trying their best then they are trolling. People can not just turn their gameplay habits off unless you're telling them it's ok to troll, especially the higher elo players. They would still roflstomp low elo players regardless if they're playing their main champ or not because they still know how to punish you for mistakes, wave manipulation and everything else that isn't champ specific.

  2. If they don't try then that's just inflating the enemy's ego and it's annoying af. I had a game on nexus blitz a couple of days ago where me and the rest of my team were running it down with the Snow Sled to do the mission (because that reward is rare af imo) and the enemy graves call us trash when we were literally pub stomping him and his team till we got the snow sled. That pissed everyone on our team off and we went back to pub stomping their asses for that remark.

You know one of the only reasons they do that is because an over whelming majority of players truly DON'T BELIEVE they are in that elo because they're bad.

When I smurfed just to prove a point, I easily had 60+ adds begging me to get them out 'cause they truly believed they were "x" rank and had nothing to fix.

So these smurfs essentially play on these accounts to get views from people literally lower rank. To be honest a lot of the lower elo players create their own misery.

I get your reasoning of trying to prove a point, but I don't really like smurfing as the way to do it. Honestly with the number of people who smurf, just like the number of people who get boosted / buy boosted accounts, it's harmful to the integrity of the ranked queues. Wish people would find a different way to show their point.

So provide one. What's your solution to show lower elo that nobody in higher elo "got lucky" can't "climb out of elo hell if they were down there" and all the other garbage memes I have the misfortune of reading regularly from people that come to me.

Like, if none of you can provide a logical alternative then don't complain about it when your own people are the ones that cause it. Real talk, playing in lowet elo isn't even fun and is an absolute chore.

I don't really think there IS a true solution to it, if I'm honest. Smurfing certainly hasn't worked, as it has been going on since the start of league but people are still in denial that their elo is their fault. Many people are very good at ignoring reality. They are very good at making excuses as to why it doesn't apply to them or whatever, even with smurfing being shown as an example.

My own people? Come now, that's not really necessary, is it? I don't really know or associate with the people you're talking about, you know? And as for me, I fully accept that I'm just bad and make many mistakes. I've no intention of dedicating enough time to league to become a top tier player.

I think really the only way is to sit there and point out every single mistake these people make, and why it is a mistake, on an individual level. Though very few will actually learn from that and it's overly time consuming. Not practical at all.

Either way, I think trying to prove that point is a waste of time, honestly. Seeing as many other high elo players that are more well known than you haven't been able to convince those people when they had multiple smurfs that they ranked up. Why, specifically, would **you **smurfing suddenly convince them otherwise?

All of my alts are to specifically practice new champs/ roles. I'm simply stating why others do it these days.

Well, if a solo laner has an account to learn, say, jungle, that really isn't too bad, I suppose. I'd still prefer that would be learned in normals, but I guess it's hard to really have a metric of how much you're learning or what level you're at there.

However, assuming it is a lower elo and on the same server than their main account, I feel that some stipulations need to apply. I feel like they should stay off their main role at any cost when going into ranked. If they have to dodge 50 games in a row to avoid their main role, so be it. If it's the same elo as their main, then it doesn't matter obviously. And if it's a different server, I can see that they may be ranking up to have high elo accounts on multiple servers. But if the account is really meant to learn a different role, then there's no reason it should be used to roflstomp lowbies in ranked with the main role.

And I feel like they should stick to queuing solo only, not duo. It's too much of a gray area for people to queue with others on a smurf in ranked. Even if it isn't intended to be boosting.... it is a little too close for comfort, no?

How else do I play with friends?

UlyssesISR4 votes

You know what's funny is normal-blind-summoners rift has the exact same issue. You have these players that will go some 20/0/X on both teams, and everyone else is barely breaking 10 kills. It polarizes the game to the point it feels like everyone else has no meaningful impact in it.

I remember watching a developer video where he mentioned that if you play bad, you play with awful players. So I am at a loss how I am being paired/matched against players who definitely belong in a whole different MMR rating than me. Especially since I play like crap.

Lon Wick 4 votes

"I'm tired of [good] players in [bad] player games" is a weird complaint, tbh. I'm just saying. We, everyone who plays this game, are expected to play at a certain level. If you can play at that expected level, elo won't really matter. It'd be less about getting stomped and more about learning small lessons that you may not have known before.

Dollie Llama1 votes

It doesn't pan out that well. There's nothing to learn against a player with a distinct advantage against you and your team. He becomes an impossible raid boss. If, however, he were on even-footed matches, he wouldn't get nearly as far ahead most likely, and the match would balance. Then, when you make a mistake, you can tentatively learn from it.

There's no lesson in the new player experience (where this mismatching issue is very obvious/prevalent) where you frequently find smurfing Yi jg, Riven tops, Zed/Yasuo mids who snowball hard with their mismatch booster seat. You're facing a player who gets a huge gold advantage while you're stuck at a much lower advantage. Then he comes to your lane and cleans you up with his huge item advantage.

No lesson to be learned at all. You're still stuck in your lane, and quite likely couldn't lock that player down anyway. And even if you could, you risk the integrity of your own lane and gold farming, which ultimately puts you behind.

Lon Wick 3 votes

Low Elo /= New Player

Low Elo means frequent losses. It means you're not playing at the level that's expected of those who play this game. It means you should go through the tutorial, play against bots, come to boards to ask what you're doing wrong or watch Youtube videos.

If you are a new players, well...of course you'll get beat. You have no idea what you're doing and are just playing the game.

Dollie Llama2 votes

But most new players are low ELO logically. And playing against bots doesn't really do anything to teach you the game. If anything, it teaches you to play incorrectly. It's only purpose for training is really to get you to understand the functional basics of the game.

My point is still reasonable. I don't care how well you know your champ and the game, when you get stuck against a high ELO player, there's no lessons to be learned, especially if they were feeding outside your lane.

Lon Wick 3 votes

If you, as someone who's always playing in games with people who know what they're doing, do not learn from watching what they're doing, that is not an Elo problem; That's called a learning deficiency. How do you think people reach high elo? By learning from high elo players when they were low elo. By playing against better players. You do not get better by playing with bad players, you get better by playing with good players. You do not learn from bad players; you learn from good players. That's the way that this game has ALWAYS been.

And TBH I would much rather be grouped with high elo players as a low elo player than be grouped with low elo players as a high elo player. It really hurts the motivation and positivity when you're playing on a team with people who don't understand the benefits of proper farming and vision control.

Oh hey, that's something you learn from playing against high elo players.

I remember when "Unskilled" was a report option, and instead of punishing those reported for being unskilled they were instead sent to play manditory tutorial and bot games. Too bad they removed that.

I never have a problem with diamonds in my game. Have enough knowledge on how not to die and reading threats and youll do fine. I faced a 2 million mastery irelia main who was d4 when I was g5 and won, crushed her actually. Then again I was on my (400k mastery at the time) main Mordekaiser. Knowing how champs work and reading the damage potential they posses is not something that should be hard for player in high silver/gold.

Happens when people spam ranked and don't advance their normal mmr, so their skill isn't reflected in their rating used for normal games. The simple solutions don't work:

  • Make normal/ranked mmr the same or influence each other: -> Can't work because the mmr system would be completely rigged
  • Seperate non-ranked players and ranked players in normal games: -> Can't work because the non-ranked playerbase would be tiny and the mmr system volatile beyond belief.

There really isn't much that can be done about that mismatch. In fact, people could just play on a seperate account to increase their skill, and all the effort would be for naught anyway because Riot can't go link the mmr of different accounts. And on top of that you have a mixed rating when queueing with premades. And if you match normals by ranked rating, someone could just place a smurf in iron and stomp without ever climbing. Even worse.

Long story short: git gud or wait til the undermatched enemies climb. The mmr system is self-balancing. It really is the best option available.
