Please stop cutting runes in half because certain champions abuse them

Succubús GF··19 votes·9,388 views

We have seen it time and time again. Celerity got gutted because a few champions were abusing the shit out of it

Inspiration tree was finally really viable and diverse, ESPECIALLy for mid lane. It made sustain lanes much better so immobile mages didnt have to back every time lb qw autod them. But jax and other top laners abusing it so it has to get fucked i guess. Please riot, stop gutting runes that some champions NEED to indirectly nerf broken champions.

Edit- Sigh It wasn't "just" celerity. Klepto became unusable on anybody aside from like ezreal LOL. Several runes got GUTTED because people who they werent intended for were abusing them. That's my whole point

celerity was overpowered and needed the change

Celerity was the only usable rune on that tier. Transcendence has almost no use for APs, since almost all 20%CDR AP items all share a unique passive together. Technically a tank build is possible, but if it works it will get nerfed to unviability immediately for "not being fun to play against."

Absolute focus has no purpose whatsoever except to enable specific champions to clear waves conveniently at level 1 Mostly Anivia. And again: If riot ever figures out that that's what it does, they'll probably remove it.

So the entire Second tier of Sorcery is practically blank.

Shame. I would love to try this if it wasn't the case: Kayle item 3006 item 3115 item 3115 item 3115 item 3115 item 3124. The cleaver shit was pretty dope for AD

Slythrin Umbreon1 votes

I actually specifically tried her. Tiltingly enough, she did more damage with item 3508 (Pre-rework) + 1 crit item + Cleaver spam then she did with any AP build

I thought the goal of Transcendence was to make getting 40% CDR easier, not to encourage CDR stacking for AP (though you could if you wanted).

Everything you say is simply wrong and you would know it if you actually looked at the most used current runes at very high elo. Control mages are pretty much all using transcendance and ADC are pretty much all using absolute focus.

Evil Bisex Plant1 votes

That proves him wrong for sure, if he was right, high elo players wouldn't pick any of those runes, right? They would just skip [sg-zephyr]

I don't believe he's said anything wrong. Riot do gut things that they bring out. That's not wrong at all, and - more often than not, it is because what they've brought out is being abused in some way. Which is fair enough, but the issue is when they start to gut things that work well, aren't op, but work well and then they completely destroy them.

It's like drawing a beautiful picture, then burning it, because it was a beautiful picture. Seems almost like an obsessive, compulsive thing that's developed into a habit of theirs :P I love Riot, all the same, but still. It would be nice if they didn't obliterate the nice things that they brought out, that aren't op :P

Transcendence does more than just convert CDR to AP. It also grants you 10% CDR at level 10, which is a HUGE boon for someone like Zyra, possibly Brand, Morgana, and Cassiopeia, who favor spamming spells more and who often want to build items like item 3151 item 3116 item 3165 that offer them much needed passives to supplement their spells, but no CDR.

Yeah, the Boards usually cry for powercreep due to the runes and yet they get mad when they nerf runes man I just dont know what they want.

10 ms(at best) and 10 damage(at best) is somehow op.

Full AP soraka with a nearly dead team mate nearby is another 30-50 AP with deathcap.

I think it's better to get rid of an overtuned interaction (Time Warp Tonic + The Dark Seal + Corrupting Potion) that otherwise underpowered characters are using as a crutch so that those champions can be buffed accordingly. The amount of sustain and free damage provided by that combo was insane.

The new Celerity changes are pretty spicy as well. People were complaining about it being "just another damage rune" that turns your movement speed into more damage. This just amps up any ability that increases your movement speed, and there are quite a few of them. I can easily see taking this rune as Jhin, Pyke, Kai'Sa, Zoe, or Aurelion Sol.

Evil Bisex Plant1 votes

Jhin, Pyke, Kai'Sa, Zoe, or Aurelion Sol.

Well then it's great all these mages you listed utilize that rune so well since Sorcery is the only tree mages can actually use viably.

iiGazeii1 votes

Zoe and Aurelion Sol are mages that I mentioned, and I can also see Ryze, Ahri, and Taliyah taking it because of the movespeed built into their kit.

Even so, Sorcery is not the only viable keystone for mages. Domination and Inspiration are both good choices as well. Electrocute and the new Dark Harvest do a lot of work, and Glacial Augment sees a lot of play with immobile mages that need spacing or need to line up a key skillshot.

Literally every champ abused celerity and is abusing time warp tonic tho

Thefrostyviking3 votes

OP please, celerity was cut down not only because it was OP on a few but because no one used anything else, although i personally think they should buff both the other runes just slightly as well.

And the timewarp thing was actually busted as hell when combined with a corruption potion, biscuits and a dark seal.....this for mid lane by the way.

I played some 20 games on syndra, mainly in normals but also a bit of ranked placements and damn it was OP, i could spam, harass and trade constantly and if the enemy didnt have the same setup they were completely unable to do anything about me letting me essentially win lane phase for free with little effort.

And i saw it on a few others as well and heaven it was so evil each and every time xD

You might feel that it was needed to make some champs viable but unfortunately it made far more actually broken, i mean what the heck can the average midlaner do about a hyperaggressive Syndra that constantly heals and regains mana?

I abused that trick so hard 3 people ragequit.

[REMOVED BY MODERATION - ULANOPO] The inspiration rune needed nerfs, end of the story. It was ridiculous the sustain it would provide to anyone that had mana as resource bar and could benefit from item 2033 as first item. I had lost many lanes in the last patchs monstly because I get outsustained even tought I would outrade my opponent. Glad they nerfed it to the ground.

ModUlanopo1 votes

Unnecessary insult removed.

Bonipherus2 votes

this is why we need runes specifically tailored to each champion to choose from instead of one-size-fits-all runes available to all champions because as we've seen throughout the seasons runes end up either useless or op depending on the champion which feels meh on the abusers but bad or terrible for everyone else.

what im asking for is an augment system from onslaught.

meowwow71 votes

idk with the changes to the tonic rune it could lead to some baits with a biscuit on hand

The Celerity change is much better than what it previously was.

Tbh the sustain had to be nerfed , it was cancerous , you can't even trade against someone who gets it even if you need it against Leblanc, she can use it too

theres nothing diverse about every solo laner in every game taking the same ass secondary runes because the sustain is just unfair

Klepto was never good and any changes they made to it didn't change that. It's technically not a bad rune it's just a bad keystone. If it was a non-keystone rune then it would be fine but it's not.

deadlychuck1 votes

This is why you DON'T make overly influential mechanical runes. Raw stat runes, while not flashy, had just as much influence, but didn't disproportionately favor any particular champions, through virtue of giving players access to every priority stat for every champion.

Basically, because every rune is worth significantly different amounts of power on every champion, you end up with a few champions that synchronize really well with the most powerful runes, absolutely dominating the game.

But really the only other option would be a mechanical rework on the champions who are abusing the runes (not always massive reworks), but unfortunately mechanical changes are much longer to produce than quick numerical changes to the runes.

suicide is fun1 votes

Or just revert runes because they were way more balanced before

Halloween Kitty1 votes

To remedy this riot could disable specific runes for specific champions. This would also help to prevent trolls with bizarre rune pages that just don't benefit their champ at all. This way the runes would work for the champs they were intended for and won't become abused by champions that weren't intended for them in the first place. However this would take away a lot of diversity.

Alternatively riot could be really bold, scrap runes all together and bring augments into play - champion specific trees. It'd be a lot to keep track of, a lot of work in terms of coding and spell effects... but it'd be much easier to balance. It would also seriously cut down on trolls. Personally I think the positives outweigh the negatives. It all depends whether or not Riot feel as though they have that kind of time and resource to invest into something people may/may not like.

As far as I can tell though, the augment system during the Odyssey game mode got a lot of positive feedback. Of course trolls could still buy stupid items, but that's off topic so I won't touch that. It'd also mean there's no 'wrong way' to set up the champ specific augments because they are designed with that champion mind. It would all be down to preference and what the player felt worked the best for them. This way it doesn't take away from the diversity and gives you a level of personal customisation with the champ you want to work with.

That's just what I think anyway. But yes. It gets particularly annoying when they completely gut something good they introduced. Fair enough if its broken but sometimes I swear they just gut things that just worked well, not that were necessarily op, to the point that they are actually useless.

I've seen a lot of people asking for augments so perhaps if enough people ask we can get something that might actually stick for once :P

I think runes should be unique to each champion. So if a rune like comet for example is broken on one champion then it gets nerfed for that champion only instead of nerfing the champion or nerfing comet for everyone
