current ult is just useless in low elo unless you're ahead. how are you going to use it when you're behind? ult behind enemy to get one shot? especially given how snowbally the game has become I don't have any level 6 power. sometimes I don't bother investing in it.
but riot has a tendency to nerf ryze/alter ryze when he's picked in LCS. making him and other team oriented champions unplayable (azir)

ALL MłGHT1 votesI only play Ryze. Typically mid or top but it really doesn't matter I'll play him anywhere. Silver elo has no coordination. No one knows how to push waves or when to back or how to ward or to even buy sweepers. How do you expect them to jump in the ult? I only use the ult if I am trying to either get behind the enemy where the ADC is or escape. Since they removed the ult+zhonyas mechanic this is a bit harder since anything can cancel the ult. The ult is so garbage in solo Q that you yourself have an idea of portal positioning since there's no verbal communication.

I guess I can see it not being optimal in lower elo, but he's not exactly reliant on his ulti and a great Ryze player should be able to climb regardless b/c of the rest of his kit.

the skill cap of Ryze isn't really how you use his ult because you yourself can learn to utilize your ult perfectly but the concept of it is for it to be team reliant otherwise they would have just made it a single target warp like TF. so you're basically handicapped 1 ability. so much of his power is allocated into that one ability that makes it pick or ban in LCS. Riot then nerfs it because it's too strong in higher elo which cripples low elo players. I'm not saying Riot should balance champions in low elo but to simply take into account that it just doesn't work the same in low elo

At the same time, I feel like this is a burden that low-elo Ryze players are just going to have to burden. Overall, Ryze is a pretty well-designed champ that has a lot of skill-expression, even if easily burdened by teammates. You said it yourself, champions shouldn't be balanced around low elo, and for the sake of champion diversity some champs are simply going to be better in low elos while others will be better in high elos.
Old Ryze's ult with spellvamp made him into an insane duelist/brawler which wasn't really supposed to be the focus of the champ, and it was pretty cancerous to deal with (see: Nasus's .5s cd on Q during ult). I'd rather not have to deal with that again

P4ppino1 votesThere are so many ways you can use ryze ultimate. Go behind enemy lines, send the tank into all the enemies, split push and then port away, getting away from a gank, reposition in fight, chase someone down, etc. Be creative.
One more thing: he doesn't really need his ult to dominate games. The rest of his kit is so strong, you can just master that. But an exceptional ryze player knows how to use his ult too, not just the other abilities.
ALL MłGHT1 votesYes I understand the multitude of options with the ult but think how this is done in low elo. People don’t understand how to position or move in lower elo making the ult useless. I can split push yes, but ever since they nerfed Ult+Zhonyas it’s been harder to split.
P4ppino1 votesYes I should've been more clear, what I wanted to say is that in low elo you don't need to make huge macro plays with ryze ult, you can just port yourself away or right into the action, you will be just as useful. When you are higher elo, for example diamond 3, you can, and will have to set up huge plays with your ult in order to win. But if you're not, you don't have to think about it, just try using it for yourself.
Also yes, they removed the combo with zhonyas, but I still think ryze is a legitimate split push threat, mainly due to his ult. You can either set up some vision around the lane you're pushing and get outta there if you spot someone, or if there's a fight, you can join your team in a heartbeat. Also lets not forget that you are playing ryze, so you can 1v1 anyone, even 1v2 maybe.
