Gameplay has such a massive bias towards mages it isn't even funny.

Yet they decry champs that involve genuine expression of skill and mechanical/game knowledge.

Can someone who isn't a mage circlejerker answer me why everyone has their head on backwards? I made a post about a certain zone control mage being too strong for their safety and within less than five minutes I had four downvotes. I deleted that post since no one had the decency to even leave a comment.

I bet if I said "(insert slayer class champ here) OP, pls nerf" without giving any reason why I'd be up-voted so much I could swim in it....

What I think should be done by the moderators is to start cleaning up blatant upvote farming posts and also delete posts that are purely complaints without any reasoning behind them.

In general, people want the game to be more like their favorite role

  • Mage mains prefer gameplay where you're firing skillshots and dodging skillshots, and whoever does that best wins the trade
  • Support mains wish the whole team would ward more and peel for each other
  • Tank mains wish that the teamfights would last longer
  • Assassin mains value being the first to get the jump on someone out of position
  • ADC mains value good positioning and the team peeling for them and right click stat checks

Obviously some of those attributes bleed over into other classes and people like a blend of them, but whatever one you like the most is what you tend to agree with.

Also, a lot of upvotes/downvotes depends on how a topic is presented and who sees it. There's a post right now that's OK with Orianna nerfs, and it's getting Upvotes, so it's not just "mage bias" drowning things out.

This is one of the major factors.

If the thread provides reasonable explanation, discussion and alternatives (with reasonable spelling/grammar), it will usually be received positively.

If it is just crying about a champion/class/mechanic and/or the OP is insulting everyone who doesn't agree with them, it will be downvoted significantly.

That feel when no one ever remembers skirmishers as a class. Feels bad man.

Skirmishers are a bit of a hybrid class, it's hard to describe them specifically I'm a way that doesn't combine other roles.

dude garen has a 50% winrate below level 30, so he's fine lol

Don't forget tanks and supports. "Oh my god! You called a tank no skill! How could you!" "Supports are never toxic!"

The subreddit is no better. It's like gameplay but with ADCs instead of tanks and mages

Like I can't help but feel mages think they are genuinely entitled to range/damage/and safety all wrapped up in one little bundle.

HoTS actually does it right, calling it as it is. Mages in that game are actually just called "Ranged Assassins"

My downvotes are already flowing in on this post too! But I really think everyone should just call it as it is, mages are just safe assassins.

Marshbouy2 votes

Well yes and no. DPS mages like aurelion sol and swain aren't really ranged assassins, but if you aren't a potato and you land a CC spell as a mage on a non tank, they are either dead or close to it.

Apocalypsic1 votes

You can one shot on A Sol too, Q Ult Star Auto can destroy squishies in the mid/late.

Swain also can basically one shot, but its mostly DoT and does offer counterplay to sustain over that time.

I would say yes overall your examples stray from the generic mage burst pattern of this game, but the potential is still there.

Both of them are rather short range though, so unlike say... Ori or Lux or Syndra or (most of the mage roster) they have some danger in attempting to do so.

any champ who is ahead and has more damage the their target can on shot

Can you explain this mage op thing you are speaking of?

Apocalypsic1 votes

I said oriana needs to lose some of her safety because for a zone control mage with her kind of range and utility she has too much damage for how safe she is, in and out of lane.

KuroCaliber2 votes

Personally? I'd be fine with removing a good chunk of damage from her ULT, and q as long as her q deals extra damage to minions to preserve wave clear. I like Orianna because of her team play and relative safety, though if q is dealing less damage, I'd like the missile speed to be increased slightly, so I'm not waiting two seconds for my ball to travel from one end of my range to another.

The only reason Orianna feels overpowered right now is that her competitors are all heavily nerfed. Most other champions expect low damage from control mages because of this, but Viktor, anivia, taliyah, and Cassiopeia are all very high in damage, or used to be. In season 5 and 6, she was advertised as riot's most balanced champ design, and I'm still inclined to agree.

Vęrtęx1 votes

I agree but her ult indicator in a team fight is too hard to see sometimes and is very frustrating

KuroCaliber1 votes

Her indicators in general are transparent. W is transparent, e Shield's is even clearer than most Shields. ULT is just four white lines. I would say best shot is to give them a bright color like red or yellow, and then thicken them a little

KuroCaliber1 votes

Her skins do a good job of improving clarity though

Vęrtęx1 votes

But it seems you are speaking as if gameplay is centered around mages and it's not fair?

Case in point, all comments to the thread agree, yet it has -1 upvotes, since people see mage and bias in the title, and downvote.
