You need 16750 ip just so you can play ranked games (with the most cheap champions)

Giggling Granny··1 votes·872 views

And i didnt count runes....

The whole IP system is so much grind..

And the champions pricess still didnt have any reduction...

And you get around 100-120 ip per game IF YOU WIN other wise you take 60-80 ip for a lost

That mean you need 200+ games just so you can afford 20 champions... and the most cheap ones (the 450 ones and then some of the 1350)

If you dare to go for higher pricess grind through 200 games and more and maybe you can have 2 6300 champions..

wtf riot?

The 20 champ minimum requirement is so that you would at least have 1 champ left if all of your other picks are banned AND picked. The chances is second to none, but it's worth keeping an insurance policy for that kind of thing.

You're not supposed to jump head first into Ranked anyway. Why, you ask? Because it's a ticket straight into Bronze5, not even kidding.

So use Norms to practice a bit before you're confident and skillful enough for Ranked. Which by then, you would already have 20+ champs.

............

Your calculation also forgot first win of the day, the champ shards from direct purchase or hextech chests, and the occasional free-IP boosts from certain events (though last one is really not frequent). Purchasing champ shards is a pretty good way to get champs, because it only costs 1700 and you have solid chances of rolling champions with higher IP cost than that, this is especially cost-effective if you don't have many champs to begin with so you're far less likely to roll the ones you've already owned. Though you still need to replenish the blue essence to activate the shards (make champ shards permanent) with if you constantly roll champ with high essence costs from having too good of a luck in gambling the bang for your buck (blue essence either drops from hextech loots or comes with the purchase of shards from the store, you can also disenchant existing champ shards into blue essence).

You also don't need the entire roster anyway, in fact even if you do have it, you probably won't touch half of it, ever.

Can confirm, I have every champ, and have only played like 50 total

Have almost all the champions. I can play relatively well with about 15 of them with another 10 that I can use if a specific situation appears. With the other 70 or so, I may as well run down mid.

If you can't even grind out that much IP to get the required 20 champions then you shouldn't even be playing Ranked anyways. This system is fine because people really ** shouldn't** be jumping into ranked so early anyways. Just because you reach level 30, does not mean you are ready for ranked either. The only thing I'd agree with this being a problem would be for smurfs but deserve this as a trade off for wanting to be a smurf anyways.

grinding for anything its stupid...the IP gains should be higher no matter what...and no matter how much practice you have you will still endup in bronze 5 if you dont know how to play...dont act like the grinding is what make people hit diamond...i can hit diamond by just playing one champion special the last 5 years...

The problem is that the ip Gains its so low that even for 20 champions that are needed for ranked games you need to grind 200-400 games..AND THAT A BAD DESIGN

And you even said so yourself that it takes like 150 games to hit level 30, well there goes a large chunk of that IP you needed right there. That is also not including the free champions you can get or Hextech chests/keys which are helpful for people getting new champions.

The point of putting this huge grind for the ip/champions for ranked is to discourage players from trying ranked to early. Yes you can reach diamond if you know how to play and can one trick some one good but that is not something that newer players would be able to do. Also they can't lower down the champions needed because with 10 bans + 9 other picks, you will need at least 20 champions just to make all your champions aren't picked/banned. Plus if you don't have at least 20 champions then what if you were auto filled into another role? You might not have a champion that can play that role or maybe you do but it's a champion that is in a bad state. If you don't have 20+ champions, you really become a liability to your team with not having a diverse selection of champions or roles.

Also while grinding in league is kind of meh, don't pretend that grinding for anything in a game is stupid or bad, because grinding is what keeps a game (mostly mmo's) going. If you can easily achieve max level or easily get an item in a game, the game loses it's thrill and players just start dropping off (Tera is a good example that comes to mind...). That's why grinding is a lot more important than what people really give it credit for.

Mobas are about competition like fps games or fighting games not about keeping the player busy doing misc bs to milk subscription fees while you work on content like mmo games. The problem is in a competitive game there is no advantage to this grind only the disadvantage for not doing it. If you don't have access to a champion you screw yourself and your team over by not being able to trade it.

As for reaching ranked early.. lets face it even with the 20 champion gate it has now most first timed ranked players shouldn't even be near ranked they're literally so green that they're trolls without knowing that they are trolling everyone around them and how or why it is trolling. Needing 20 champions and the 100 or 200 games to reach 30 is a very ineffective measure in a game where the burden of knowledge to play at a acceptable level is so steep. Aside from basic things like Cs, Trading, Warding, and Jungle clearing there is a gigantic list of items to learn, 137 different champion kits to recognize, and shot calls to pick up (When should I fight baron? Should I help with that drag? Where should we ward and when? What is split pushing and when should I do it? Why is building thorn mail first item a stupid idea on a adc? WTF does reset mean? What is orb walking? Attack move? Animation Canceling? What skills should I level when and why? Why did we win the game when the udyr said fuck you to the team and just pushed top while we were saying to group? What does the red ! ping mean? Why did that guy just spam ? on mid? Why shouldn't I pick teemo support? ).

200 games, 20 champs, that's 10 games per champ.

Is it really that hard to play 10 games with a champ before moving on to a new one?

Also: Should you even be playing ranked if you haven't put 10 games into a champ?

Also: Saying anything about runes cost is pretty moot considering Riot has already said they are replacing runes with a free rune/mastery system this pre-season.

Also: There's free champs (alistar, trist, garen) so there's that.

Also: You're ignoring 1st win of the day. What, are you going to play all 200 games in 1 day? Even if you took a bunch of drugs and played 200 games back to back, and won/lost them all at 20 minutes, and had nearly 0 queue time, that's still around 70 hours of gameplay, so you'll at least get 2-3 1st win of the day's in there. ...and probably die while playing.

Also: If you're willing to put 70+ hours into a game, isn't it ok to put $20 into it and just buy a couple champs you like?

To be fair though, rp prices for champions are inflated af.

Lol I didnt remember it being that difficult to purchase many champions. By the time I was level 30, i had 24 champions and 4 of them were 6300.

Giggling Granny1 votes

that because back in the days league were needed over 600 games to hit lvl 30 now it only need 150

Vigilente2 votes

WHAT. Which days were back in the days? Season 5? Thats when I started. And holy crap if its 150 games, I should probably start some smurfs!

Giggling Granny1 votes

Before even season 1 i start this game at 2009 in order to hit lvl 30 you needed 600 games Over the years riot has lower that to 150 max or 40-50 with XP boost

DeathBurst1 votes

You have 4 free Champs easy to unlock, Garen, Tristana, Annie and Alistar, so it's only 11700.

11700 IP is not so much, given that you need to get to Lvl 30 first anyway. You should have MUCH more than that by the time you're level 30 and ready to get into Ranked.

And Runes will be retired in November, so you don't even need to worry about that. If you really need some in the meantime, just buy some Tiers2 Runes at 1 IP each. Far more than enough.

Ip gain is obnoxiously low before you get all champions on a account and obnoxiously useless after you have all champions assuming you ignore rune costs since they're supposed to be disappearing with the new system.

I've never understood why League couldn't be like the other mobas and allow access to all champions off the bat and then make money using skins, name changes, xp boosts, and server transfers.

They could get rid of the ip system completely since it doesn't really serve a purpose other than being a obnoxious gating mechanic or at least make it only take only about 5 hours of gameplay per champion for the ip grind. As it stands generally you're looking at around 30-50 wins per 6300 champion. With a average game length of around 30 minutes at let's say 140 ip with win of the day that is around 15 to 25 hours per champion if you're winning every game.

There are I believe around 31 champions priced at 6300 ip which would require at least 465 hours of game play to buy if you don't spend rp. It would take someone who grinds out league 10 hours a day around 2 or 3 months just to get the 6300 champions.

As someone who has farmed every champion and runes, I would be totaly ok if IP would just go away...
