Things About Auto Fill that Makes Zero Sense

Auto Fill is supposed to reduce wait times for games, right?

But here are some things I've noticed.

The longer you wait to get into a game, the more likely you are to be filled. This is, of course, supposed to be for your personal convenience. If that can be considered convenient.

On that same note people who are in queue for a short time, about 2 minutes or less, are the least likely to be filled. This means the players who wait ever so patiently for their roles will be filled while the players who just queued in basically have instant access to their preferred roles.

So, a system meant to reduce wait times, punishes those who've waited longer than others.

Am I missing something or is that just absolutely backwards?

If you're in Queue longer, that means Riot hasnt been able to find a match to put you in. That being said, Riot also knows the waiting list for a Silver 3 (for example) mid laner. If it sees that you're like another 10 minutes or so down the list, it'll autofill you. If you have autofill protection, it might bump you up the list and throw someone who was ahead of you into autofill.

On top of all of that, if nobody was autofilled, the wait times would DRASTICALLY increase. Think about it. You queue mid and are like 5000 or whatever in line for mid at your ELO. Not only do you have to wait in line behind 5000 people, but you have to wait for every single one of them to get matched with a similar ELO support while almost nobody is playing support.

Yea. This is pretty on much on point. Auto-fill has decreased queue times by a lot. Before they enabled it, it took a good solid 6 to 10 minutes for me to get into a game going Top/Mid at Silver 5. Now it takes like 2 to 3 minutes.
