I was wrong about toplane

I had to write this thread because i feel like i was not fair in my judgement in the past weeks concerning toplane

Ever since i hit challenger I was actually amazed by many things regarding toplane, which also showed me that I was wrong

First: Toplane has no impact and Botlane is everything Wrong Ever fought a 3/0 camille? It's legit spectacular when camille is played by a good player and is ahead, when i looked at it it felt unstoppable. She can dash an entire screen, goes untargeable to dodge ccs, deals massive damage, isolates a target, prevents them from moving, and has shield/heal and it's not only Camille, but also Gnar, Fiora, Jayce, Vladimir, Gangplank

I can't count the amount of time i was overfed bot, and still lost because my toplaner was inting Toplane actually matters, if your toplaner is behind and enemy camille/gnar is ahead you will have issues

Second: Tanks dominate toplane Wrong Maokai is legit never picked, same for ornn, i fought ornn a single time in the past week If i had to remember a tank that i fought in a game it would be Malphite 1 time and he got destroyed by camille Tanks are actually not strong There isn't really a class that dominates it's Gangplank Camille Gnar Jayce picked/banned in every games what's the common point of those champions? I would say that they're extremely strong in teamfight and are strong in more than one manner Gnar for instance has a safe laning phase, can bully, can kill both squishy and tanky targets, and can also soak up a lot of damage+cc people

Picks like Gnar and Camille need to be looked at, because until then other toplaners will never be picked

What's the problem of toplane? It's actually fervor users

In challenger Renekton used to be a solid pick if you had no idea who to pick, I remember Dyrus playing him often Renekton can lane against ranged oppenents, can win lane, is hard to gank, is decent in teamfight

and now? he's never ever considered to be picked he literally tickles since fervor got removed, both in lane and in teamfight or splitpushing or anything and it's the same for Darius Aatrox Trundle Tryndamere Kled press the attack was a total joke of a replacement for fervor

Now what actually needs to be done: -fighter keystone -nerf to Camille Jayce -Gnar heavy changes need to be done, this champion is literally vayne+maokai in 1 -Nerfs to KogMaw Tristana -Nerfs to TahmKench Janna and i say this as a Janna main

what doesn't need to be done: -fighter's itemization is actually fine -bramble vest is fine, but i would argue that balancing healing around GW is a horrible design would be great if GW is removed and healing is tuned down

Now that's only my opinion, feel free to take it or not [slayer-jinx-catface]

You forgot the no 1 and 2 toplaners wich are the strongest for me (by far).

Illaoi and Nasus

Illaoi can have 0/9 in lane and will anyway R-W-Penta later on (and beware if she has some kills and 2 or 3 items). And Nasus just stacks and stacks - press Q: -1000hp.

I actually ban Illaoi. No way to fight her unless you get very fast ahead with another hyper-carry.

There is a reason i forgot them

because if you're decent at the game Nasus and Illaoi become irrelevant And since everyone in challenger know how to deal with Illaoi and Nasus it's easy to forget them

Now I don't want to start an argument about wether we should balance the game for lower elo or not, I'm just saying that there is a reason i forgot them

Pick Janna or Kench, and you will never lose against them

Whatever. I sometimes follow the stream of TSP wich is a sup-only in Platin. As it seems in his elo the problem with Illaoi seems to be existent too I mentioned it here. It can be dealt with her but this is true more or less for all champs. I rarely lose vs Janna as I am Zyra main.

Tanks are ok and above average imho, it's just Camille that has 1k true damage. I'm also surprised Camille is open in a challenger game.

who's the average for you?

You already said it that Camille, Gnar, Jayce and Gangplank are the top tier now. If they are banned or picked then 2nd choice is a tank (note that not all tanks are good) which means they are above the average and the remaining of fighters are pretty much worthless.

Anyway i think people are just picking whatever is picked in LCS and even if you didn't mentioned him i think you are going to see more Vladimir top in your games soon.

not really

if camille gnar ect... are banned, and tanks are picked as a 2nd choice

it means tanks are the average, bruisers are under average

I get your point, it's not that you are wrong.

But 3-4 (really small amount) champions are dominating top lane and we already listed them. Now lets suppose they are banned (though it's most likely not going to happen all of them are banned in the same game), first alternative we have to replace them are tanks which outclass any other champion besides the 4 top tier ones. So in my opinion they are a bit above the average.

Even though there are tanks who can destroy Jayce, Malphite with comet completely runs over Jayce. But that's just a bad match up. This means tanks are even viable against the top tier champions sometimes.

In the end tanks outclass 80% of the other toplaners, even Rumble is having hard times fighting tanks and that makes me thinking.

That said, a good OTP can make off meta champions work in high elo but they are not allowed to make any mistakes and they need to play perfectly from the start to the end. Meanwhile they could just play a tank to provide cc or pick Camille and destroy anyone after the 1-2 items powerspike.

In low elo, I've noticed the recent games I've won, its because my top laner got fed and hard carried us, or at least carried us into late game, which then allowed the adc to finally catch up and become relevant again.

Jax is the real MVP of low elo.
