Varus' Passive. An idea.

Edit 2: Note that numbers might always be subject to chance, or can be scaled by level. I chose relatively high values since compared to other carries he lacks strong steroids and the new passive only applies near towers. Not in jungle fights. Please rate the idea rather than the numbers

Edit 3: Values at allied towers lowered. Values at enemy towers now scale per level.

Varus lore summary: Varus is a Guardian who failed to defend his temple. He allowed himself to be corrupted in order to seek revenge.

Varus' Passive (current): 20% asp for a CS. 40% for a kill or assist foe a short timeframe. Issue: It's not a strong effect and it only triggers if your team is already ahead in the fight.

Varus' Passive (suggested): Near an allied tower (800 range) Varus gains increased auto attack range( 825 total attack range). Near an enemy tower (800 range) Varus attackspeed is increased by 14 + 2*level %

Explanation: The suggested change fits Varus lore, as a Guardian he gains range to defend allied structures, while near enemy structures he gets consumed by his rage making him attack much faster in his frenzy. This passive does not help him in jungle fights, but really makes him a great "guardian" for your turrets. The additional range and his ultimate make diving very difficult for enemies, while his Q and passive allow sieging enemy turrets very well. His weakness shows during Baron, Dragon, Blue or Red fights which don't take place near towers. (They're just monsters, they didn't attack his temple. There is no reason for him to stir up his rage or guardian instincts)

I believe that the above suggestion not only fits his lore well, but also grants him a unique nieche.

Edit: I'ld suggest to add a blue glow while he is defending structures and a violet glow while he is attacking them, possibly varying in intensity depending how close he is to leaving the range.

I like the allied turret part, although the attack range seems oppressive. The enemy turret passive would make him into an absolute turret killer not only early, but throughout the game. maybe introducing scaling for it (say 15%/25%/35%) would be healthier. Generally though I like the idea! :)

The point of Varus is to be able to snipe with skills. (or to send tanks to oblivion if you play ap Varus.) There is no other ability in the game that requires an active turret around to function except for Omniwrecker. Having him to be the one to have that ability would feel really out of place.

Also it does not fit in with his lore. He is not a guardian consumed by rage. He was a guardian that got consumed by rage. There is a big difference there. His lore even says that there is no going back for him at the end.

Edit While Azir can only cast minions on top of turrets if there is an active turret to cast it on. But his kit has this do high damage to everything design so he does need that active.

I think it would be better if his abilities marked a target, and he receives increased attack speed against that target. That also goes with a guardian / hunter lore in the sense that since has seen / injured you he goes in for the kill. Having to kill a unit to get the buff is kinda counter intuitive.

900 attack range? what the hell? even if its just near towers thats A LOT.

Varus has no steroids, no permant slow, his poke has a long CD and his ultimate doesn't have AD sclaing. He lacks basically every kind of boost other AD carries have. If Kog and Trist have huge range AND steroids which can be used ANYWHERE I believe that it's fair to give him a higher range in a VERY limited area.

Numbers are a bit high on the allied turrets effect, but I like the idea. It's certainly a lot more thematic than his current "Oh shit we already have four abilities and he needs a steroid" passive.

I like this idea. 825 still is seriously long ranged though- I think the number you should be aiming for is something like ~700-725. Kog'maw is 710 with his w, and that's the longest one except for Twitch, which is only accessed through his ultimate. Even a level 18 trist is only 703.

As for the attack speed, I'd suggest four numbers total- 5/20/35/50%, increasing at levels 6/11/16. This makes it less of an early game fast push type steroid to a late game siege and pushing tool (some applications for teamfights too).

Whether you like those numbers better or not, I like the idea.

No. This is just broken and doesn't fit his play style. It's also not reliable and wouldn't fix any of his current problems.

His passive idea came from the lore, it means that the first taste of vengeance Varus gets will unleash a bloodshed upon Noxus.

Imo his passive just needs to give more benefits. Increase the AS bonus to 60% and give him a huge AD steroid like 50 (it can scale with levels so it starts out weaker) and increase the duration from 6 seconds to 10. There his passive is actually worth to have. Because his passive should make you feel like you're capable of turning fights around if they let you live.

There's many things Riot can do to help him like if i made a list it wouldn't end.

Thanks for the overall positive feedback though, numbers can always be tweaked. I started off with relatively high numbers due to the severe limitations. I might have overshot it. Thoughts

Edit: Lowered the range to 825 Scaled the ASP buff like suggested by Blutduerster.

His Q still has a much longer range than his AA even while defending. I also never mentioned that his skill would scale. Its only about his auto attacks.

P.S. It was his choice to be consumed by rage since he needs its power for his revenge. So I'ld say both ways to put it are correct.

Deleted my comment that said this since I became unsure if you were responding to me with no quote. But in case you are I will say it again.

He was supposed to be guarding something to prevent people from using it and then decided to start abusing it. How can he still be considered a guardian?

I believe it's up to interpretation. Do you stop being a soccer player because you failed an accidently shot your own goal in your overconfidence? It happens to the best. I don't the him not being a guardian anymore, I'ld rather interpret it the way that his PRIMARY motivation became revenge rather than guarding.

Maybe we should ask Riot to write a book? :p

I don't particularly like this idea since it seems to fall back into the turtle-ing that made games stalemate earlier in League development.

If you read further into his lore, it also says that immediately after he gave himself over to the corruption, he went out and murdered a bunch of Noxian soldiers. While he was doing that, "He attacked more swiftly with every shot/kill, releasing arrows with blinding speed" (Paraphrased, but that is basically what it says) Varus's passive needs to stay relatively the same in terms of mechanism, since he is no longer a guardian of anything (He currently wears that mighty power he was guarding as a pair of purple pants...). They need to buff it, sure, and maybe make it trigger off of something other than kills and/or make the buff stack with itself up to a cap (so killing three minions in a row gets you 60% AS). The range idea is really not his niche as a champion, he is a teamfighting utility ADC.

What if he gains increased attack speed for contisouly attacking a target wjth blight?
