Who thought press the attack would be balanced from the start ?

Press the attack - Hitting an enemy champion with 3 consecutive basic attacks deals 30 - 120 bonus adaptive damage (based on level) and makes them vulnerable, increasing the damage they take by 12% from all sources for 6 seconds. ??? Like what is this ? Built in duskblade and built in vlad ult ?

On paper it's fucking broken. Idk how it actually plays out.

Based on the wording, it has no cooldown. In other words, Twitch pops out of stealth to ult with Runaan's and effectively debuffs 3-5 of the enemy team for +12% damage.

Twitch pops out of stealth to ult with Runaan's and effectively kills everyone with 0 counterplay

how is this different from how he is right now

Vekkna17 votes

The difference is that now he's effectively immune to shutdown. His ult could deal 0 damage, and the 12% teamwide debuff would still carry the fight.

ChallengerTier2 votes

12% would sure as hell not carry the teamfight if he dies, lethal tempo is a lot more stronger on adcs than this garbage.

Champion Skin3 votes

It isn't only a +12% damage increase you know? It also adds about the same damage on AA as Fervor of Battle does but with the requirement of needing to land 3 AA's on the same target (but it only needs 3 AA's instead of the 8 that Fervor needs to be fully stacked)

I don't think Press the Attack will be all that bad

On ADC's yes Lethal Tempo is probably better simply because the more AD, AS and Crit the ADC can stack the more insane their damage becomes and Lethal tempo helps with giving them more AS

OyddAWqJ5r1 votes

Except Fervor was effectively increasing ADCs damage output via stacking AD and crit amplification of that AD combined with AD ratios.

It's definitely not Fervor anymore. Dunno how people are missing the fact that ADCs just lost (8 - 64 AD that factors into crit multiplication, attack speed & ratios) for (30 - 120 flat damage + 12% amp)

in what world does 12% team damage make up for not having an ADC?

Have you ever seen Vlad ult in a fight before?

Lets just say there is a reason that spell went from 20% damage amp for 5 seconds all the way down to 10%/12%/14% for 5 seconds, before deciding that was still way too much, and it would singlehandedly decide fights, so now its is only 10% at all levels for only 4 seconds, with RIOT nerfing it every chance they got.

Twitch could now have a better damage amp than Vlad ult through the entire team, while bursting all 5 of them with the base damage as well. All from a single fucking rune.

OyddAWqJ5r1 votes

So can every other ADC. But you can't ignore that burst champs burst harder now and tanks are tankier now.

It's not just ADCs that got buffs. Their counters did too, pretty considerable ones at that.

PB4UAME1 votes

No, only Jinx would have a similar potential, and only in Rocket form. Twitch has AoE on his ult, and gets attack speed coming out of stealth, making it very easy to land multiple hits on the entire team with a Runaan's Hurricane.

Your perception of this damage amp is seriously wrong. Vlad's ult also has a high base damage when it ends and he can apply it instantly. Twitch has to autoattack 3 times. Alot will happen in that time.

Now, lets imagine this scenario. You have 4 champs who each deal the same damage, for easy math lets say they all do 100 damage. And you're saying 12% more damage is better than having a 5th champ. Well ok so with the amp they each do 112 which is a total of 448. If you had a 5th champ doing 100 instead you'd get 500. Well how about that. You only get 48% of a champion worth of damage. It turns out that you'd need a 25% damage amp to make up for having 4 people. Wow math is fun.

Now let's remember that the ADC often does the most damage in fights so the reality is even worse than that example. Giving up power like Lethal Tempo on the ADC for team damage amp is not a good strategy because the ADC is a primary damage dealer.

Yeah sure, Vlad's ult was adding a lot of hidden power and arguably making it way too easy to win teamfights, but it's instant application in an AoE, the champ itself also does a lot of damage and is hard to kill, and the ult pops at the end for a lot of damage. What Riot had to decide was, do they want Vlad's power to be in this damage amp mechanic which doesn't feel that great to the Vlad player, and requires more team coordination to shine, or should they tone that down and leave room for the rest of his kit, the part that the player really feels and enjoys, to shine? Well the choice was obvious.

Your argument is not backed by math, all you are really saying is that they nerfed a damage amp ult so obviously damage amps must be really fucking OP. Well no, damage amps just don't feel that great to use so Riot doesn't allocate much of a champ's power budget to damage amps.

You vastly underestimate multiplicative damage increases if you don't think 12% extra on all 5 members is worth Twitch's ult alone not doing damage, which, before your ludicrous strawman, was the actual claim being addressed, namely "His [Twitch's] ult could deal 0 damage, and the 12% teamwide debuff would still carry the fight."

What is actually being discussed is using Twitch's ult, with its AoE, coming out of stealth, plus the extra attack speed this provides, getting 3 hits off on your team (which can be done now in under a second, at over 700 range, coming out of stealth) and applying the 12% damage amp. The claim is that getting that damage amp off, effectively increasing all subsequent damage from all 5 members of your team (no fucking clue how you got "twitch dies for this" out of his ult's damage not even being required, but Twitch is certainly still there in the fight) is enough to carry a fight. Given that RIOT themselves have said, almost any AoE damage amp above 10% is enough to single-handedly decided teamfights when discussing Vlad's ult in the past, which is what my previous comment alluded to, that's a very valid claim, and one backed by precedent.

% damage increase in League is like a MORE damage modifier in PoE. The are way more powerful than most people give them credit for. Having that much extra damage makes the kill thresholds way lower, and especially when focus firing, allows you to burst before people can react, or make executes supremely powerful. I mean, say that a team somehow had roughly equal damage on each person. you're taking 1.12x damage up to 5 times, for a total of 5.6-- in effect, there is 6/10ths of another person's worth of damage added, from a measly 12% amp if you focus fire. In Vlad's case, they brought up the point that his initial 20% amp was effectively a 6th person in a fight, as 1.2 x 5 = 6.

A lot of shit goes down in the time it takes to auto 3 times, even when Twitch is at full build and it's less than a second. Most of the burst is dropped before he manages to apply it.

Vlad's ult is instantly applied. You don't understand the difference. I tried to explain that but in your world "less than a second!" is fucking instant.

You can only have one active, and it only works on primary target. The cooldown is the 6 second duration.

its got a cooldown, IDK about 20 seconds? 10? probably not as high as 30. I don't know it exactly but it's got a cooldown.

it's incredibly powerful btw. in bot lane, if you don't land your auto first, you GET THE HELL OUT. if you don't have press the attack, you don't push don't fight 'cause you're hoping to outscale with insane attack speed from the other rune. Thunderlords is trash tier in bot lane 'cause you have no attack speed, but they do.

Tistana, Ez, cait, and possibly Corki are the current bot lane meta, because their dash lets them be safe in lane, safe in team fights. trist can also be agressive, while cait can poke and guarantee she's the first auto, and then corki and ez have a big buff from tri force (base auto increase)

oh, and vayne. lol. forgot vayne. she's OP right now. Lucian might be OK because of his double attack passive, and his dash. Ashe is reasonable because of her ult. the other AD lose too much in comparison to the ones I listed because of the way press the attack currently warps the meta. only exception is twitch because he can try to outscale, but honestly? good luck with that. any reasonable player will punish you hard in lane, and snowball like hell. only the highest skill twitches in bot lane with clever ganking. twitch jungle maybe.

ChallengerTier4 votes

Press the attack isnt the problem, the damage boost is good but it does 120 fucking damage at lv18. Lethal tempo is much stronger.

Champion Skin2 votes

Press the Attack is far from weak as it is to some degree a stronger version of Fervor of Battle

It adds 120 damage every 3 auto attacks (134.4 after the first proc because of the 12% increased damage) which is almost as good as having +40 damage every auto attack and for it to add as much on AA as a fully stacked Fervor of Battle (at level 18) then you would need 200 damage every auto attack (and it adds 40 by itself and most champions have between 100-150 base AD)

And it is much stronger on ranged champions who would need 8 auto attacks to stack up fervor but only needs 3 auto attacks for Press the Attack and it also increases ability damage, item/sheen damage, on-hit damage and allied damage as well

Though yes it doesn't deal that much damage with 1 proc.... the thing is that they can proc it over and over again as long as they can keep auto attacking (and if they aren't able to auto attack then Lethal tempo wouldn't really do anything either)

Automated Riven1 votes

Wrong. You proc press the attack and you can't proc it again until the damage amp is over. It's still stupid strong tho.

MAGIC DAMAGE: 150 / 250 / 350 (+ 70% AP)

hmm yes it "literally" is a vlad ult

Automated Riven2 votes

Vlad ult is 10% damage amp for 4-5 seconds. Can't remember which. Press the attack is 12% for 6. Even without the damage it's ridiculously strong. You make up for it with the longer duration and higher percentage. And it has a 3 auto attack downtime. Which means that if you are fighting someone you basically have a permanent 12% damage boost from all sources. That means that at 300 ad your getting 36 per auto. And 500 ap your at 60. It's stupid strong. Tanks will get bursted so fast because of this keystone.

LankPants1 votes

5 armour isn't even that useless TBH, it has a niche. 5 MR however...

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

Except, point for point, MR is considered better than armor...

LankPants1 votes

Only if you look at it in a very linear, gold value focused way. Basically each point of MR costs more but each point of armour is actually worth more due to the way tank stats work overall. Magic damage is almost entirely burst, so HP is already an effective counter with just a small amount of MR. Incidentally the tree gives you a lump sum of that and there's no tank build which doesn't include HP.

Conversely almost all physical damage is sustained, meaning you simply need more armour and typically want armour sooner than MR since your HP pool can't substitute for armour in the same way it does MR.

You also just get more armour and need more armour, which means the 5% increase to armour is always going to be worth more.

Eedat2 votes

LankPants1 votes

It's been live for two days here.

Sasogwa2 votes

Wait, can you proc the bonus damage from 3rd auto several times on a target or it's just once? Does it become like a 3 hit passive?

EDIT : http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Press_the_Attack

Apparently the 3rd hit only procs once and doesn't proc again on a "vulnerable" (aka who got the 12% dmg amp. on it) target

In any case, with press the attack being a thing, time to nerf runaan's

LankPants1 votes

Press the attack is on-attack, not on hit. It basically works like Runaan's, you can proc it off the bolts and it won't stack twice on Rageblade attacks. It also only stacks onto a single target, requiring 3 attacks consecutively, attacking another target will cause the stacks to drop off the first like Vayne's Silver Bolts. For the 6 seconds the target is vulnerable you can't stack PtA on anyone else including them.

DemainaNyx1 votes

As the other person said, it's on attack, otherwise this would so be broken on Ashe Q.

chipndip12 votes

Just frame it like this:

For every 100 damage taken while exposed, you take 12 more damage. It's not that bad unless you take like 2000 damage in quick succession, right?

Solidair31 votes

Dusk blade doesn't require 3 auto attacks to get the benefit.

Also, if it's overpowered they'll nerf it. Preseason ain't gonna be perfectly balanced duderino.

PrinceOfStorms1 votes

They won't nerf it if ADCs use it. They'll say that's the pinnacle of balance and leave it. Hence why they've let ADCs be busted for nearly all of season 7

Wobarachi1 votes

I think it's generally weaker than Lethal Tempo. I'd also prefer if it was more dueling rather than team oriented.

HarrowR2 votes

Well it kinda is dueling, imagine if you're playing Lucian,Tristana,Xayah,Vayne etc, someone ganks, you attack them 3 times,do a bit of burst damage that you didnt have before and then proceed to kill him with +12% dmg on him, plus if you take ninja tabi and PD he does -% dmg to you,so its kinda good dueling stat
