Why does Barrier have a shorter cooldown than ignite? It should be longer.

Hear me out on this.

Ignite encourages forward-play. It encourages trying to make a play, get a kill, going on the offensive. The "fun" kind of gameplay that we've been trying to encourage.

Barrier, on the other hand, encourages defensive play. Reactionary play. You never PLAN to use barrier. It just happens when you realize you're going to die otherwise.

Further, Barrier has more options than Ignite. Ignite is only any good if you're strong enough to kill someone. Sure, the grievous wounds is helpful in edge cases, but overall if you're in a 1v1 mid lane with Ignite the spell is only any use if you're going to try to kill your opponent. Meanwhile Barrier can be used to save yourself (or prevent damage) in general. When you get ganked / tower dove / etc... It's useful whether ahead or behind.

Ignite is only useful when not behind, and encourages active gameplay. Barrier is useful always, and encourages passive gameplay.

So why does Barrier have the shorter cooldown? Shouldn't you be punished for the safety of barrier? I feel like ignite users should get windows of opportunity where Ignite is available and Barrier isn't - not the other way around.

It just sucks when another lane is feeding and you can't get a kill 1v1 because your lane opponent has barrier whenever you go for the all in. When an ally is doing well the barrier user has an extra resource to just let that person carry, whereas ignite users needs to just try to force plays themselves.

Barrier's CD was reduced to encourage more people to use it since it was impractical because of it's CD

Barrier doesn't "encourage" any kind of defensive play at all. You can still be aggressive knowing you have barrier in case shit hits the fan or to narrowly escape after you get a kill. It's also good for baiting people who forget you have it.

Why the fuck would you punish passive gameplay? Do you think I want to play aggressively vs a talon or fizz or something like that if i'm playing lux or tf?

I'll never forget the time I was playing taliyah and I was vs a leblanc and I brought barrier. She tried to all in me early on and I used my barrier and killed her and ended up snowballing super hard because of that.

Talon or Fizz have to risk overextending in order to kill you as Lux.

Why should you get to use a summoner to entire counter theirs (let's hypothetically say for the duration of lane phase you use barrier if and only if they use ignite on you) when they are the one that has to take risks.

You already outscale them. They need to kill you in lane in order to come out ahead. So why does your summoner get a shorter cooldown when you already get a less risky play style and a guaranteed outscale if they don't make something happen?

Stopped reading when you said barrier had more options over ignite. That's like saying 100 shield for yourself (for 2 seconds) is better than 100 damage to an enemy. They're only comparable because the shield lasts shorter, thus making it weaker. There's no gauruntee all of the shield will be used, but the damage will be dealt.

Barrier is really useful for immobile mages who have few other ways to survive engages in the lane, especially ganks. It's important to cover that weakness of theirs. Ignite is good for assassins who already have ways to kill their lane opponent, so ignite is used to further this strength. Hopefully this makes sense.
