My First Ever Main

NOTE

This is basically me telling of my first time getting to know League.

It all began with a YouTube video on the rarest skins for League's champions. Don't know why I watched it. Possibly really bored. But after watching it, I still felt that the game was boring as ever and didn't seem worth a check but I looked into it anyway. I looked at the home page and saw that it looked really cool. And after clicking on the "PLAY NOW" button it brought me to a page that said I'd need to download the game. Well, I'd never downloaded a game before. And I was hesitant to do it. But it said it was free and off to the left I saw a seriously cool picture of a werewolf (otherwise know as Warwick Warwick).

I'm relaying this story from the point of view I had back before I knew of this game.

So, I downloaded the game. And after a LONG loading period, I went through the tutorial. It showed me the basics of how to move, attack, and the objective. Then it asked for another tutorial which I refused... Yet it would had helped in the long run I guess. I soon got into the game. Played a few matches and eventually it told me I could buy stuff from the store. I looked at all the champs and eventually decided on the one I would get first. The one that I felt looked the coolest and related to me the best. That champion was Udyr Udyr. And though I saw that he wasn't one those expensive ones he looked fun and I eventually got him. I played as him none stop. Every game, it was me being him. Top lane. Middle. Bottom. Didn't matter. I continuously played only him. Unless someone else got him first or I wanted a break and tried another champion. But there was one thing I had missed. And others I would soon learn. Over the course of a couple of months I got to be a beast as Udyr. I would never lose a match. I learned what I would chose to master first, second, third, and last then I would harass and conquer the rest of the Field of Justice. But it was only one day that I had someone ask me, "Dude. No items?" I was confused. I'd never heard of items in the game before. And I had already made it to level 25-7. It was then that I got one item. And only that one item. (Forget what its called but I'll tell you this, it allowed for both bonus attack and life steal, and no this was not a BloodThirster or any other big item. No. It's only 800 gold.) But I would always win strangely. It was until I went into Ranked (man they were harsh on me) that I learned that each champion needs specific items. I wondered myself at their question. How did I get to level 30 and not know any of this? I'd not even heard of Jungling until Ranked. And it was only 2 months ago when I learned how to properly use masteries. And so, I've been on here for over a year now and that is my story. I still don't have all the champions yet. Basically (few to) no runes.

So basically my question to you is, what got you to try League? Or would you say that even for League, you should have money for skins, champs, etc.

You were level 25 when you learned to use items?

I've been level 30 forever, and I still don't use items much. I'll use potions early game, but 9 times out of 10 I forget to use my Zhonya's or Deathfire, unless I'm tower diving with Crowstorm.

This is insane. No one ever mentioned the fact that you didn't buy items until Level 25?! Weird.

What got me to try League? My sister played it and said it was fun. Very interesting, I know.

I only started playing back in May (26th, to be exact) because I began my recruiting process with Riot just prior. I had tried it a few months earlier, but didn't receive a ton of help on-boarding and found it difficult to balance the game with my lifestyle.

Although I knew about buying items from my first game onward, I had no idea how to utilize them efficiently until...maybe 12 or so? Playing with friends early on (when I started playing regularly) helped a ton because they didn't get frustrated during the on-boarding process. I was yelled at plenty by some other players, as tends to happen, but luckily the majority of strangers were incredibly helpful.

As a fun note: It took me a few games of buying two, sometimes three, boots before someone said anything. I had no clue, they were just cheap and I thought, "I want to go faster!" It was like eBay for League.

I played Warcraft 3 a long time ago. I played all of the custom maps. From Gems TD to Pimp My Peon, I played everything and anything. Hell, I even RP'd in one of those 'life sim' maps. During that time, I had stumbled into a few DOTA matches. I didn't really know what to do. No one did. We simply played for fun and none of had a real clue what to do. We bought items, killed minions, got slaughtered by towers, and that was it. Years passed and I moved onto the Warhammer series.

Back when I played Warcraft 3, I had no idea that DOTA was such a popular thing. I just thought it was another fun game mode. I shrugged it off and went back to other games and got lost in consoles and real life. After awhile, League was released. It was still new but I never touched it and I didn't even know what it was. At this time, I was getting involved with Steam and buying tons of cheap games and what-not.

Fastforward.

DOTA 2's Beta is released. Because of a friend, I was given a pass and I decided to play. It was fun. Sort of. Me and my friends lost touch and that was the end of that. I was naturally good at DOTA 2, or so they told me. After the game left its Beta period, I returned. I got bored and left it behind as I returned to consoles and other Steam games.

Fastforward. Yes. Again.

After playing through a ton of F2P games that were either garbage ( Elsword, Grand Chase, Fiesta ) or boring ( Scarlet Blade, Rumble Fighters, DFO ) I decided to search through MMOHut for my next pray. I looked through the list and found lots of stuff and tried and played and became bored again. Then, I landed on League. I had forgotten all about it and I felt excited to play since the game had now been out for a long time.

And I was delightfully pleased and still am. I've had a lot of fun and I'm getting more experienced with every match. Hopefully.

This story spans ~7 years. I've played League since July.

Going into middle school, I had sort of fell apart from my old group of friends, who all played Minecraft or didn't play games at all. My new group of friends all played League. All of them. I would always jokingly enter their conversations knowing nothing and saying things like, "Oh yeah, you get the AP and the Attack speed and then CC." I took interest in League and went on the wiki, looking at every single champion's page. (although since I didn't understand abilities or builds, I mostly looked at lore.) My friends finally convinced me to start playing, and I downloaded and played for the first time during spring break, 2013.

I remember finding out there were free champions, and being the cheapskate that I was, (and still am today,) I eagerly got both, instead of buying a cheap champion. I immediately took a liking to Tristana. She was ranged. She did damage. And I liked that. (I still play mostly ADC and burst mages today, who all have range and damage.) I didn't have any memorable "noob mistakes," but what I do know is that I played too much Co-op. Even after I was told Co-op is bad for me, I kept playing it under the pretense of "testing a champion," or such. Even now, I don't play Ranked often, instead preferring to play normals all the time.

And that's my story.

That second paragraph... is actually pretty much identical to my beginning... Except I had more mistakes :P

Me, I'm a knowledge whore so I knew most of the game and had watched a ton of stuff before I even started playing it, I knew all about runes, masteries, what sorts of items work on who, etc. This actually reminds me to get Galio, since back when I was fairly knew I thought "Wow, he's super cool looking, and he's a gargoyle like that old show I used to watch as a kid! And he shoots lasers from his eyes and he's a protector, he seems awesome!" But anyway, my story:

I had played Awesomenauts and played it like every day. It was very unbalanced though. There was always something that just destroyed everything and everyone else, and a lot of time it felt like a game of rock paper scissors, too. Your naut would be HORRIBLY countered by an enemy naut, but it was always blind pick so you wouldn't know. Although I did have some fun maining Leon, and I should really get back into it, maybe it's more balanced now. Anyway, so I was looking for a new game like Awesomenauts to play, and I found out it was called a Moba. I found out that Valve, one of my favorite companies, made a hugely popular moba called Dota 2. So I tried to get it, but I had to either be on a waiting list or spend 30 dollars on it at the time. In my extensive research of it, however, (again, knowledge whore) I saw a lot of things about comparing it to a game called League of Legends. So I decided to try out League, and it was free. I remember when i first got it and everything I spent quite a while on the login screen listening to Lissandra's speech. (I also need to get her she's a ton of fun when she's free.) I got into the game and really loved it and now i absolutely adore it. I also remember that Rengar scared me so much when I first encountered him on the enemy team and he ulted me.
