Unpopular Opinion: Autofill is a Terrible Mistake by Riot

I'm already prepared for the down votes.

Being autofilled doesn't just affect the player forced into an unfamiliar role. It affects entire teams. If someone does not want to support then you cannot possibly expect them to play the role well or at all.

lets turn the clock back 2 years.

20% chance you got support.

20% chance you got to play your main role mid for being first pick.

80% chance you didn't get your main and actually had to learn more than 1 champ/role.

whats that you finally got mid/first pick? AND SOMEONE DODGED.

I avoided ranked play like the cancerous pit of perpetual toxicity that it was back then.

toxicity is a two way street

2 years ago I easily got my main role 60%+ of the time. 30%ish I supported. 10% I filled something else.

You didn't have to be first pick either. Nor would I always play my main role when I was first pick. It was a little thing called communication and working with your team.

Good thing nobody does that anymore thanks to Riot's brilliant new role selection! Removing teamwork from the game, one update at a time!

the games you are describing are very far and few between especially in low elo.

it gets better as elo improves, but every single game someone else calls mid first, and you see they're ahead of you on the list and theres nothing you can do about it. sure open your mouth and say "im a mid main, im really good too" and they'll say nothing and pick mid anyway.

it definitely improves if you happen to be a jungle main and literally no1 wants to play jungle.

I've smurfed enough in the past to know what low elo is like, the players act the same pretty much anywhere. Mid admittedly was a bit harder to get, but ADC/top/jungle were not. Btw I never 'sold' myself in champ select or anything. All I would say is "prefer _" and then see if people were willing to fill out the rest of the team. Most (slightly more than half) of the time they were. If they weren't, I filled.

Well then learn all the roles so they stop being "unfamiliar".

"Don't want to support". LOL Then play teams, and have your own role forever.
