"The climb takes a lot longer now. This is intentional." Ok riot, ok.

This is so dumb I can't even put it in words, man. So basically if you have a really good win rate or high mmr without even fucking smurfing, your climb will be longer, even longer than before.

Your rank is for example gold, but you're gonna be playing vs. plats and diamonds. Makes sense, right ????

And the dumbest thing is they act like this is for smurfing, cmon man, this is literally to make people play more and grind more. Fucking disgusting.

No reason to care about rank this season anyway. Dogshit company, dogshit game.

Vevut2/18/2020, 5:42:26 PM30 votes

Yeah this change is hot garbage. The problem is I don't think Riot is humble enough to change it. After all they do have 200 plus years of game making experience.......

MyAccountStolen12/18/2020, 6:45:10 PM18 votes

This does nothing to solve smurfing and it is clearly yet another sick attempt to further addict hardstuck players. This causes your visible rank to be lower than your actual MMR when "climbing MMR". The goal is to have everyone playing 300-400 ranked games to get your visible rank in line with your MMR. Basically, the largest factor in what your visible rank is now, is what was your rank last season and how many games have you played. Not how well you play. Good ranking system LOL!

The whole problem with this idea is it kills the "dream" of ranking up quickly if you play well. And if players knew how it actually worked, they probably would just play provisionals for rewards and stop after that (no purpose given the ranking system). I mean what is the point anyway? Your visible rank will always be significantly lower than your actual MMR unless you play 10 games a day.

So their solution for smurfing is to make smurf accounts stay longer in the low elos to ruin more games? Makes perfect sense for small indie company riot pls understand tbh.

2huFranku2/19/2020, 12:32:58 AM15 votes

Why are votes disabled on boards now lol?

Blam2/18/2020, 10:26:33 PM13 votes

I think that the majority of the reason people smurf is to stomp less skilled players because the grind on their main can get arduous and frustrating.

So basically they don't want to rank up on their smurf accounts quickly anyway, but if the grind wasn't so bad on their main they wouldn't want to smurf as often.

This "solution" only perpetuates the problem.

Wyrmblade2/18/2020, 8:58:40 PM12 votes

Doesn't this just mean smurfs are gonna spend more games in lower ranks?

1800NICECLIENT2/18/2020, 8:14:01 PM12 votes

I'm impressed.

That's an incredibly half-assed solution to a real in game problem. Probably the same people who came up with autofill, lol. Way to miss the mark Rito.

Ive deleted the game, i've had enough of this bullshit.

Nea1042/18/2020, 7:12:35 PM10 votes

Just a little reminder that on these Boards you're forced to call them "competent", even in front of such depressing and frankly disgusting bul non-sense.

I don't know how these people can keep doing their own job without embarassment and shame, at this point.

Hordes662/18/2020, 6:36:06 PM10 votes

The problem is that the people running this game know jack shit about it.

Karfuss2/18/2020, 11:51:52 PM7 votes

I can live with the longer ranking up... But you don't get it both ways.

Rank resets, forced win rates, MMR discrepancies between teams and promos can F right off if you're gonna make us play 200-300 games just to get where we should be.

And if this WAS to stop Smurfs... Well done Riot. You've ensured that a single Smurf account can terrorize lower ELOs for even longer than they could, before making a new account/throwing games.

Jhìndiana Jones2/19/2020, 2:09:53 AM7 votes

Bro... matchmaking is like the russian roulette, only worse because every time you win a consecutive game you add a bullet in the gun.

Big Tiddy Fox GF2/18/2020, 11:34:38 PM7 votes

Yup.

No Ranked for me this season.

Might just drop the game off after ARURF is gone anyway, just looking at that shows how incompetent this company is now.

But I can't judge that, I don't have 200 years of experience

Metal Janna2/19/2020, 12:18:00 AM6 votes

Making it harder for smurfs to rank up accounts - good. But don't stop there! Man up and actually ban smurfing! For too long Riot has allowed smurfing to remain within the rules even if they don't like it. It seems like there are three things keeping Riot from banning smurfing: 1: There exists one legitimate reason for smurfing, and that is to maintain separate statistics for your offrole/offbuild/offmeta games. 2: High profile streamers do it, and they can't afford to lose the free advertising that they bring by banning them. 3: Detecting and banning smurfs is hard and once there's a rule against it we're obligated to try.

The solution to #1 and #2 is to create an alternate profiles system where an account can have multiple profiles that all share punishment status, but not MMR or stats. The streamers and pros can use this, and the losers who want to evade the punishment system can't.

The solution to #3 is to grow a pair as a company. Yes it means investing man-hours and therefore money. BUT it will also ensure League stays the dominant player in the MOBA space by improving matchmaking and the level of toxicity in the community.

BeatzBoyFTW2/19/2020, 1:11:24 PM5 votes

Considering the state of League compared to previous seasons, I just simply don't give a fuck about Ranked anymore. I'm now just playing for the fun of it, or better, rather AFK a bad game than living through it.

This is just so sad tbh, and I used to be an avid/addicted League player.

MorgManBasher2/18/2020, 10:17:31 PM4 votes

As someone that doesn't play ranked much, this kinda sucks. Like, I generally hit high plat /low Diamond in less than 100 games and then stop, I don't want to be punished for doing well. I generally hit around +60% winrate so I normally climb fast so if this is how it works now I don't know if I want to bother.

I just don't like to spam high ranked games, being 4-5 manned bot lane under my turret isn't my idea of fun, so I always stop the moment I hit Diamond. So you are just making my diamond climb harder because you are trying to punish smurfs when most smurfs purposely keep themselves in low ELO anyway.

Love Anastasia2/18/2020, 1:01:03 PM4 votes

It's, without doubt, so much better than last season, when you could see people climbing from plat 5 to diamond with negative winrate.

Legend of the 112/19/2020, 6:56:17 AM4 votes

There was have it folks. Our suspicions. The system is rigged.

mirAcIe2/19/2020, 12:51:15 PM4 votes

Lol, funny thing is that by making the climb on mains stale they encourage people to play on their smurfs because smurfs climb faster. People who smurf even often overtake their main account, because it's stuck due to the scripted nature of the matchmaking algorithm.

Lauchmelder2/19/2020, 1:01:00 PM3 votes

Well I didn't play ranked last season because I don't want to play my promos against people 4+ divisions above where I would end up and now Riot decides to make that problem even bigger.

Guess season 8 was my last ranked season. Cba to proof the system that I belong into x elo by winning 2-3 games against people in x+4 elo.

Sleeping Bat2/18/2020, 10:08:08 PM3 votes

It's not a trolls, a feeders and a bad players in the low elo (the first thing a new player sees) that ruins the game experience for others. It's the forced 50% winrate. It's a smurfs.

And now you have to spend more time to get out of elo hell. Brilliant. Good thing that I deleted this game, 200 years of experience went into a stage of full enlightenment and group understanding (aka group-think). All that's left is to cook popcorn and watch how the League sink to the bottom.

EtellerandetLord2/19/2020, 8:50:49 AM2 votes

For normal people is taking forever to rank up.. seems the system doesn't take into account anything, just +18 -18 and I'm not alone on this. On top of this, it seems to wait less time while queuing you can get paired with up to two divisions down, I'm talking a Silver 1 playing with an Iron 4 in the same game, doesn't make much sense. Or with 25% winrate players (after more than 20+ games). Is almost a certain loss for someone that is not a smurf, again is pretty sad considering a game in low elo takes up to 45 minutes.

JRobin312/18/2020, 5:30:52 PM2 votes

How many games do you think you should have to play on your main account to get to D2?

BALDG1VEN BOOMER2/18/2020, 7:49:19 PM2 votes

You’re missing the point:

MMR growth is remains the same but your rank growth slows down.

Makes sense, that means you could be Bronze 3 40-0 with Plat MMR and only get like +15 a win.

It does discourage smurfing.

Actual rank has never been a good incentive to measure skill as much as MMR Does
