Why damage is so high now

Main point This is just a theory that I'd like to discuss but I think the reason there is so much damage now compared to season 1-3 is primarily because of the runes. Think about it. Back before thunderlords or electrocute existed, zed never got that large chunk of burst from just landing 3 attacks/abilities. The reason why tanks are dying much faster now than they did back then. Why janna actually can hit an ezreal really hard with w even though janna was known to be one of the champs who's attacks were almost as light as air. I believe it all has to do with the new runes. Why do you guys think there is so much damage now?

On a side note Now, I don't think tanks, bruisers, juggernauts whatever you want to call them should be tanky and also have the same amount of damage they already have. However, I do think they should be tanky to survive. So either they stay at their state now where they die in 5 seconds if focused, but still deal the same amount of damage they are doing now, or make it that they are tankier but don't deal the same amount of damage they do currently. Because if you allow any tanks, bruisers, juggernauts etc to become tankier, you should know they will be doing more damage because they are alive longer. That's where the balance will become not balanced.

Remember This is more so about me saying why i think damage is so high, not me saying we need people to be more durable because hell i hate the tank meta more than this everyone does damage meta. I'm just stating the whole tank thing in the case that riot reverts runes, which i highly doubt, but it would be something to think about if tanks, juggernauts, bruisers started becoming tanky again. But what are your thoughts? Why do you think there is so much damage now? Is it because of an item change? Because of champion patch updates? Because of new champions put into the game?

  1. Runes.
  2. Nerf to almost every tank item in the game.
  3. Buffs to almost every single damage item.
  4. More gold in every game(platings, shutdowns, drakes and so on) which generally favors damage type champs.
  5. Way too many mobility and true dmg skill champs.

Yes it's definitely runes adding a huge percent% of damage power to champions. This also works to lower overall skill of the game since a lot of champion's power (percentage-wise) is tied to his runes instead of items, and one of the reasons why jungle is just so overpowered now.

However, it's also them adding cooldowns on a lot of items, outright buffing champions with every "rework", buffing items, introducing items like Spear of Shojin, BOTRK, Death's Dance etc etc and introducing overloaded champions

Bring tanks back. Even as a tank main I'll admit they were overtuned a few seasons ago, but bring them back in some fashion. To tank now, I find myself having to dodge and skirt the edges of a fight. While this is effective if my team runs with me, this is not how the tank role is played. Tanks are the first into a fight and the last out. They step in front of the damage. They stand like a stone wall to hold ground when their team is rushing to reinforce. I can't do any of these now, or I'll die before Annie can count to five. I'm not a tank anymore. It's not fun anymore.

There is so much dmg because its the design intent.

It doesn't happen accidentally. They don't have to keep buffing damage. They could stop and instead nerf. But all that's happening is CDR and dmg up. Cooldowns, mana costs (lol jk no one uses mana) Res and hp down.

Because 2015/16 Riot who still were in their (almost) right minds, realised Tank items were overpowered compared to the AD items back in the days. So, what was their answer? More damage! Wait...AD now is too strong..huh, didn't expect that one, maybe buffing tank damage would beat their dmg. Oh wait a minute, now tanks deal way too much damage and are too tanky to die easily. Welp, let's buff damage more. Wait a minute, we forgot about assassins.. Alright, give them lethality and overpowered cheap items and give some damage to mages to start bursting assassins from poke. Wait a minute.. We got to season 9 already? Well, might as well give some skins and add more buffs for worlds!

What often happens is when a champion is weak people assume said champion needs buff when in reality said champion is actually fair but not absurdly broken as the meta champions.
