Taric sucks, make him better

overpoweredscrub··16 votes·8,194 views

I get that the reason he has a charge system on his q is so he could proc his passive more. But it's highly unnecessary. The old taric didn't need a bunch of q to make good use of his passive. He could rotate between his spells of e, auto, w, auto, q, auto. He didn't need his q charges. The reason why the charges are fucking ass is because they make his heal sooooo weak if he only has 1 or 2 charges. And then it takes so long for his q to build charges so even if the cooldown is low, it doesn't matter because the heal is weak without charges. Cooldown reduction will not reduce the charge time to get charges. Not only this but the base heal and scaling for his heal is fucking garbage. Compare his heal to any other healing champ like sona, nami, even nidalee. They all have a much better heal than taric at a relatively shorter cooldown because they don't have to wait for charges. Just imagine how shitty their heal will be if they have to wait for charges like taric? Again, if your argument is that he needs charges so he could use his passive, the old taric could utilitize his passive just by rotating his spells and auto attacking between them. If you wanna talk about mana cost, his heal costs freaking 110 mana per cast even with just 1 charge stocked in his heal. That's ridiculously high so saying oh you can spam his q to proc his auto isnt even that great because of how small the heal is versus the mana cost. You will go oom so quick after a few rotations.

His ult is so bad i just don't even level it up because yeah on paper it can be good, but a 2.5 second delay will be too slow that if the enemy sees it, they can either kill their target before the ult comes off, or they can just run away. Then lasting only 2.5 seconds, it's actually not that long and people can kite it very easily. I get they have to make it kinda like that since it can make everyone on the team invulnerable, but it's kind of bad in practice unless you are specifically using it to smash down towers for guaranteed turret destruction. That's about the best use for it.

I like his shield on his w that was okay. I personally prefer his old stun but this one is really not that bad and not that hard to use and can his multiple units so it's not terrible.

But man his heal and ult are complete trash. Make him better. Make his ult instant but last only 2.5 seconds. Would be a lot better. Or make his ult have a 2.5 delay but last 5 seconds. Do something to make it feel better. His heal is completely trash. Make it that it doesn't have charge system and just heals a base amount. Make his healing scale better or have higher base heal. I played a game where I had the keystone that gives me 10% heal and shield power, and i even had a arden censor that gives another 10% heal and shield power plus a good chunk of ap. Yet I still healed like crap. At 1 charge, you can't even heal 150 unless you have like 600 ap which is not worth it because you will be so squishy just to heal a measily 150 health. His healing sucks. Either make it better or change it to something else.

Taric deserve love and rework to his heal , ultimate and buff to his base armor and W armor. He isnt even satisfying to use right now.

Lol the only reason i didnt mention his armor was because right now armor doesnt do too much. You can have so much armor but still die easily to physical attacks. So a good thing about his w is that not only does if give stats, but also a shield to eat a bit of damage. But yes he definitely needs some love. That heal and ult are not fun to play with at all.

It's not a bad item indeed. Especially since taric's heal doesnt scale well with the ap he gets from arden censor. The amount of healing you get for your ap is really bad so the athenes passive would probably help a little more? One of the biggest weakness to his heal is you can't really use it often, only after every 30+ seconds because you have to wait for it's cooldown, then wait for it's charges. It's dumb because while his heal is on cooldown, it cannot gain any charges. The charge build up timer does not tick until his q is off cooldown. So he has to wait really long for at least 3 or more charges to get a powerful heal. So in the meantime, his heal is weak and not useful to use.

i hate the fact they nerfed his healing even though it had no game breaking issues. they just nerfed it just to nerf it for funzies. meanwhile soraka gets aoe silence, slows farrange, global heal ults consistently making adcs heal tanks.

Got to use the passive to refresh charges. Then use charges to refresh the passive. I will grab a clip for you when I get home to show it.

First thing is taric is melee so you have to be really confident you can even proc your passive without getting cced and focused on. Second, if you use your q, the charges get consumed. The whole point of this is that his heal is weak. If you need to proc passive, you don't need the charge mechanic. Look at old taric, he could rotate with his basic abilties and proc his passive 4-6 times in a 6-10 second fight

You can pop it on towers or minions. I often use it with relic to turn some of my mp into teammates hp. Q gets a free charge every passive empowered Auto you land so the cd is not an issue. Can chain 2 auto 2 charge a very easily.

In a fight I am reasonably confident in my ability to not die instantly even if I take a hit of cc cuz I don't go glass cannon on a melee support

Idk, im not a fan of getting into melee range to proc your passive on minions or turrets and take some harrass just to get some charges on your q which heals about as much as a nidalee or nami heal with 3 charges and maybe just a slight bit more at 5 charges but since the scaling is garbage a nid and nami heal will always be for frequent and more potent without having to build up charges. The charge system is just a way to weaken taric imo. Compare his current heal to his heal before the rework and the old heal was a lot better. It had better base healing and better scaling. And the reason it wasnt so weak was because it didnt run on charges and it wasnt an "aoe" heal. But cmon, the aoe is so small and when you heal everyone, it's so small. It is puny in comparison to sona's aoe heal that actually heals a lot in aoe that also gives a shield.

I don't play taric much. I just happened to get him in aram. And when I got him in aram, I maxed q first to see the potential of his heal. It was very disappointing. At 5 ranks in q I had 600 ap by the way, I could heal for a whopping 150 at 1 charge. Sure maybe at 3 charges i could heal for like 450, but it would take too long to wait for it, and if i go melee range to proc passive, im so squishy i die real quick.

On another game, when I did build tanky like warmogs, deadmans plate, ninja tabi stuff like that, i still lose so much health. 2 or 3 people hitting me drops me to half hp in 2 seconds. If I'm not trying to heal, the best thing to max first is e because you get more damage per rank and shorter cooldown. The w is nice but you only get a 1 percent max hp increase per rank for your shield so its best to just get 1 point early. If i max q, i want to have strong heals, but its not strong unless you can get charges. Which I just looked at the charges take 15 seconds to charge. Ridiculously long because you need about 3 charges total to heal about the same amount as a nidalee or nami and that would mean having to wait a minimum of 33 seconds. Unless of course you can proc taric's passive. But then again, nami and nidalee can heal at a much shorter cooldown for about as much as taric's third charge heal without having to go into melee ranged to build up charges. It just doesnt feel fun playing taric.

Taric isn't a healer. That's what your issue is here. Taric is a tank, and counter engage. His heal is there as a supplement to proc his passive attacks so he can pull CD off his other abilities faster. His heal is deliberately bad so that he's not Soraka on cocaine, speed, sugar, and caffeine, because having a spammable heal that healed for as much as you're hoping would make him absolutely beyond busted.

Additionally, Taric, like pretty much most melees on ARAM, struggles badly against all of the poke that's in that game mode, so of course he's going to lose a lot of HP when he gets into melee range. Since he's also encouraged to build armor for his W passive, if you were against AP damage, again, you would have been melted on the spot. Plus, ARAM gimps healing, so his already weak heal is practically nonexistent on ARAM.

In an actual SR game, Taric is a great support, because he can set up a lot of plays, and there's more room to maneuver so he's not getting poked to death all the time. His heal actually matters a bit more early game, as it can be impactful, and his shield only scales as the game goes on, since it's a %MaxHP shield. So yes, you're playing Taric quite wrong if you're gunning for his heals above everything else his kit offers.

If taric isn't a healer, why the hell does he even have a heal? Bro, the prereworked taric wasn't a healer either, but at least his heal was good. Look at nami, nidalee, fiora. Do you think they are healers? Hell no. But they heal a lot more than taric does. It doesn't fucking matter if taric isn't a healer, if he isnt a healer he should have no heal in his kit, If he has a heal, we should be able to specialize his healing so his heal can actually be good. Nidalee isn't a healer, but if you go ap on her or arden censor, her heal is really fucking good. Same with nami. Fiora's heal is not bad either and fiora has absolutely nothing to do with healing. What is your point about taric not meant to be a healer when other characters arent even healers who heal really good? The only actual healer in the game is soraka that's about it. Sona isn't even a true healer but you bet your butt she can heal pretty good.

Kai Guy1 votes

Typically when some one uses healer they mean that's the primary focus of a kit. A kit can have a heal, but unless its a core part of the champions identity you would not call them a healer.

For example many players would not call Janna a healer. Not because she lacks heals or her R is weak but because the displacement CC and Shields are more important aspects of her kit for her to thrive. Good usage of peel and E are what stands out vs a Janna rather her R healing.

Soraka on the other hand needs to make clutch W and R casts. With out topping off Hp bars she feels bad.

Alistar has a heal, but imo is considered a Tank, not a healer. If your team needed some sustain he can function but if you need burst healing to counter an enemy champion this is not who your going to want to use. (Soraka can make Zed have a really bad day.)

Taric is a fighter support. you need to smash some skulls with the hammer for his kit to function. You go all ap and max his Q first? Not ideal usage. W max is about self casting as much as teammates. you splash the shield so you get more up time. Now you don't like armor and don't build it so the passive on W is likely useless to you. But well... that's your playstyle and build don't hold the champion accountable for that.

But that further supports the invalidy of the statement "x is not a healer". Just because they aren't a healer doesn't mean their heal has to be garbage. As I stated, nami, sona, nidalee are not healers. Yet they have the ability to heal really well. Taric on the other hand cannot specialize his heal. His heal will always be garbage regardless of what he buys. Alistar had a good heal when it was an active ability but now that it's a passive i don't even mention it anymore because it's not an abiltiy. But let's say if alistar's heal was still his e right? If his heal at rank 5 was 100 heal and a 10 percent ap scaling, it would be complete trash and I would definitely complain about it. The reason I complain about taric's heal is that it's base heal is weak, and you cannot buy items to specialize in making his heal potent. Your options are to wait 15 seconds for each charge and wait till you have about 3 charges or more meaning having to wait about 45 seconds for a decent heal is kind of dumb if it's in his kit considering that nidalee, nami, sona can heal about 2 or 3 times in that amount of time and their heal is just as potent if not more powerful because of the scaling compared to taric's 1 heal with 3 or more charges. Just because taric isn't a healer shouldnt mean his heal has to be garbage. Old taric before rework wasn't a healer, yet can heal better.

Kai Guy1 votes

It just means their heal is not the core aspect of their kit. Tarics Q is all about resetting it over and over. Not about 5 stack casts.

Champions are not judged off any minor part of their kit. Their "class" is about the entire kit and its interactions. Like a "Paladin" in many games has good healing, they also have strong tanking potential. If you don't front line and just stand back healing, many times your just a subpar "cleric/Preist" because they fufull that function better if you abandon your front line power as a Pally.

Ashe Has AP scaling. Do you want to build her AP mid lane? But she has AP! so clearly shes an AP champion. She can mage mid. You can do it, and hell you can do It well and win. But, its not like your outclassing other mage options and the required investment of effort is high. Should we demand riot buffs Ashe because she is a weak mage? Should we say she is a shit adc because of her failings as an Ap mage? How do you respond to some one who tells you they are having trouble with Ashe and shes trash champion because they run an E maxed build and lethality items?

You gauge champions off what they do well. Glass cannon AP and maxed Q is not Taric's strong suit.

No passive no stacks. No stacks no heal value. Attempting to max his heal with out having the ability to trigger it more then one time is subpar. You can play any number of champions with a Clutch heal. The benefit to how his Q and passive function result in Taric being about Aoe sustain during a fight and strong sustain for team around objectives. he provides staying power to a team not an emergency burst of health for some one who fked up. (Thou WQ does a great job of keeping teammates alive enough for R to land)

You don't have any defensive stats cuz your stacked 600 ap? You die instantly. Cant body block abilities, and you don't have the ability to use Passive and Q to lower your W and E CD to low values in a teamtight.

I said it already. You and I have fundamentally different views on the value of defensive stats. I find them useful and you my friend? Well You go glass cannon because you think they have no value.

It's still not an invalid statement. And nothing we've said contradicts anything about Taric. Nami's PRIMARY function in the lane is heal with W, poke with W, and try to land Qs when she can, while dashing in her E in to help give allies a slow on autos. A large bulk of her utility resides in her heal, because it's also one of her more reliable poking tools that also speeds up her own allies. Sona, likewise, relies a lot on her W to keep her lane sustained, but she's more of a poke mage. But the major thing you're missing in regards to both of these ladies is that they have the durability of a sheet of toilet paper in a hurricane. That's why they're allowed to have stronger heals and poke, because that's the thing they're good at, sitting back, keeping their ally safe, and throwing out their big CC when they can.

Taric, conversely, is build like a concrete bunker. He stacks armor, he passively grants his ally a large portion of that armor through his W, and he's supposed to be running into people's faces to stun them and knock them around for damage from his passive swings. His heal, being the PRIMARY way that he activates his passive (which ALSO shaves CD off his other abilities), CANNOT be a powerful heal because it would be stupidly broken. If one pip of his heal was as potent as a Sona heal or a Nami heal, all 5 pips would be a full restore, and that would just be fucking absurd. The reason it's weak is because he's intended to be spamming it to activate his passive, and if it wasn't weak, he'd basically be unkillable as long as he had mana, since he'd be able to spam heal off every bit of damage dealt to him. So it's weak, but even constant, weak healing is going to add up. It's primary purpose isn't to top people off like Soraka or Nami does, nor is it even to clutch save people from death like other stronger healers. It's a utility purpose for him, that also has a weak heal as a bonus - it's ALSO AOE btw, so again, it CANNOT be strong for game health purposes.

As I've said, you're playing Taric completely wrong if you're focusing on his heal. You're playing him super wrong if you're focusing on his heal in an ARAM, where healing is nerfed into oblivion. Taric's main function is to stun enemies, then slam them repeatedly with his hammer until they die, while simultaneously shielding allies when needed, and popping his ult for plays. The healing is just icing on the cake to do his job, but it's not his primary job.

You replied to the wrong post. Its a bit cluttered so I get it.

Each basic attack hit with passive gives a charge instantly. So depending on rank you might get all charges in like 3 seconds. Athene is a good idea, but there are 3 problems.

  1. It's not exactly cheap.
  2. Taric needs to be in melee range for enemy to use passive. Something that especially these days many champion can avoid.
  3. Tarci's survival is not even good enough to be in frontline for too long.

I mean 30 magic resist, but no Health. No effective HP make your resist pretty much useless. You could have 900 armor and magic resist, doesn't mean much if you have 1500 HP only.

There are two ways to answer this.

  1. it can be really hard to land his stun if the enemy has a lot of mobility to move around it.

  2. When would you build it?

Most of the people who build item 3174 can stack it without getting stuck in the fight, but taric needs to be between the enemy Renekton Riven Darius Garen and your squishies.

lmao yeah old taric was a beast. People would underestimate him going top cuz he is normally a support, until they find out how strong his dueling potential can be. But what I like about old taric is you could build him 3 different ways unlike the current one. The old one you could go full ap for really strong healing, or full tank support, or full ad and just smash people with his passive and bonus ad from his ult. The taric now is kinda like you only have 1 build path because full ap sucks. Ad i havent tried, i guess its okay? Not amazing but not bad?

That's sad. I feel like the biggest reason taric yi was good was not really because of taric's heal but because of how yi's q interacts with taric's e. Since yi target dashes and follows whoever he targets, it made taric's e easy to stun. But I think that has nothing to do with taric's q healing. It's just terrible. But I can definitely agree that yi and taric is kinda disgusting lol.

I feel like his passive is the one thing I'd change about Taric,

As it is he has this double attack thing which actually has zero cooldown, and reduces his cooldowns so he needs to really be on somebody to abuse it; If you ever play Top Taric into somebody with no cc and build a tear, it's a bad troll build I know; but it's kinda of hilarious how weird and broken Bravado is... But outside of troll builds all it usually does is getting a couple autos after a stun, which isn't very often, or bashing away at towers, which seems to be its primary use.

Anyway one idea is regarding that the thing I miss about old Taric (one of the only things I miss since his rework was actually fantastic), is he could hit like a truck with his Dazzle and Ult empowers both up- So it'd be nice if his passive was more about hitting hard rather than hitting quickly and spellweaving. .. Taric should really be that kinda character most fighters don't want to mess with, his range is so short no mobility - so if somebody wants to jump on top of him (or he manages to get to somebody) they should really be toast; he can only pull that off (kinda) that when really fed at the moment.

I agree that you could play that way as top taric. But as a support it really doesn't feel good at all since his heal is ass lol. And his ult is not reliable in saving your adc unless you waste it really early and then people on the enemy is like, well okay taric no ult lol.

Yeah what I loved about prereworked taric was that most people underestimated him and didn't know how powerful he truly was. I know taric's biggest weakness though was that he was very slow, immobile, and even with stun you needed to stun someone close instead of max ranged stun because if you max range stun as taric, by the time you get up to your target, they are off stun and just walk away and there's nothing you could do. But if someone was disrespectful and came at you, you could beat them senseless because taric was actually good at fighting. But he had a lot of trouble sticking to people or at least I had a lot of trouble sticking to people. But at least the old taric you could specialize. You could go ap for strong heals, ad for strong hits, tank for durability. Now it's kinda like, you go ap but get abysmal heal increase, ad but then you become squishy and have to go melee ranged, tank but then most tanks still die in 5 seconds if focused on.

Taric is a sort of "jack of all trades", and because of that. It's worthless.

He uses armor for his passive, and W.

He uses AD for his passive. His passive stets attack speed to 2.5 for 2 hits. With rank2 Q you can keep it up constantly. So AD taric can have a hell of a damage without any attack speed.

He uses mana for obvious reasons.

He uses AP for E damage, and Q heal.

He uses health for W, and Q.

This is a LOT of stuff. Pretty much anything you build will improve some of Taric's skills, but all got so low ratio, that you can't specialize. Also as "tank" he is really weak. Pyke got bigger base health, and armor, and combined with his tons of escape, and passive he got better survival.

Riot should simply decide what Taric is, and specialize into that direction.

Lategame support: Increase ratios of heal, and W, and make ult instant, or non-seenable by enemy. If they can't see it, then they have harder time to react to it.

Tank: Increase defense capabilities. Maybe make his passive heal himself with each hit, or make W give more, and magic res. too.

Protector: Take away his health, and armor ratios, and increase heal, and make it scaling. Also give back the mana from basic attacks passive.

Early All-in: Make stun easier to land. Right now ~90% of the botlane duos counter it. For example make it "invisible" to enemy, or make it activatable twice. The longer you wait the bigger the damage, and stun, but you could use it instantly for lower damage+stun similar to Janna hurricane. Or simply increase Taric's speed greatly while casting it.

By the way i loved old Taric with nashor's tooth. Man that heal was rival to Soraka's, if i could hit anything. And back in the day free flash/dash/charge was a rare stuff. Not like today, that every 2. champion has it.

I agree with his jack of all trades feel. It really sucks because if you specialize his build going full ap, he heals for nothing. If you get arden censor or athenes or any of those percentage heal and shield power increase, it still makes his heal weak. I haven't tried going ad yet but im not really a fan of walking up and melee attacking people as taric since he doesnt have a dash and his stun is not guaranteed. And with the current game, going in melee ranged is asking to be focused and melted in 5 seconds because damage is so high. And yeah his ult delay just makes it really hard to use effectively except for one scenario where you are trying to take down tower when your minions are under the enemy tower. That's about the only best easy time to use his ult.

Daddy ReTaric3 votes

Im a pre rework Taric main and right now his kit is too binary and predictable to be any successful. Want to heal ? Need to proc your passive to make it worthwhile but nobody will let you do so without out harassing you. Want to use your W shield? Too bad it scale off max health and Ad carry don't have much Hp during the game..W armor buff is so little , enemy Ad dont even feel it and its pretty much useless against everything that is Ap or have execute cough Pyke.. You want to stun your enemy? Long delay and easy to dodge skillshot leaving you defenseless to get shredded if you miss..You see an assassins jumping on your carry? You ult but in 80% of the case ,your adc is dead before your ult goes online... I understand the delay but his stun and ult delay is too long for current meta. I have more success playing AP malphite support than I have with Taric and it make me feel bad..

Edit : His mana cost is also absurd.. I understand they tried to gate him but common!

Yes, and Bard's heal needs to be buffed too.

While I don't play a lot of Taric, imo make his charges affected by CDR and increase the shield. His ult is very strong but only if used at the right time, buffing it will shift the power budget a lot.

it's hard to use his ult at the right time because if you try using it right before your teammate is gonna die, he will most likely die before the ult comes off. If you do it too early, people will just back off and you basically waste your ult. That's why it's very hard to use it properly. The only time i think his ult can be used easily and properly is if your whole team is trying to take down an objective together.

I agree though that if they don't remove the charge system, at least let it be affected by cdr. And make it that when the q goes on cooldown, it still is building charges because right now, you don't build up charges while your q is on cooldown. So you gotta wait a couple seconds till q is off cooldown, then it will have only 1 charge so you gotta wait another 8 seconds for it to get about 2 charges making the actual heal a long cooldown and the amount he heals is very little. 3 charges on his q will heal around the same amount if not less than a single nidalee or nami heal who is building arden censor. A sona can outheal taric and use 3 of her heals before taric even gets his 3rd charge on his heal.

AlienPrimate1 votes

At first I thought you were just bad at Taric after reading the OP, but this post just proves you don't understand his kit in the least. Taric's Q does not need to be off cooldown to get charges. If you build attack speed on him without cdr, you can get 2 charges on it before it is even off cooldown. You are guaranteed a charge every single time you use your passive so get up in the fight and hit something. It doesn't matter what that something is. If there is an Alistar next to you, hit him to reset your cooldowns even if the ADC is shooting at you from behind Alistar. If there are no champions nearby, find some minions to hit. You should never be chasing on Taric if you have something to hit even if that something is just a ward. A combo of Q, 2 aa, E, 2 aa, Q, 2 aa, W, 2 aa, Q, 2 aa ensures that you always have 4 charges. This is the same healing as just spamming Q at 2 charges but you get the effects of your stun and shield thrown in and spend less mana doing so. Taric should get a 4 charge heal off about every 2-3 seconds which far outclasses all other healing in the game except Soraka's W.

T.T But I build to spams the 2 charge Q and like cheesing that E cdr and damage from leveling it second.

AlienPrimate1 votes

The ideal is to get 4 points in each at level 10. I usually forget to do this out of a bad habit I formed before realizing that it is much better to get 4 points in Q by level 10 so you don't have an awkward 2 levels from 10-12 with 3 points in Q.

E, W, Q, Q, E, R, E, E, Q, Q, R, E, W, W, W, R, W, Q

I assume you mean 4 in Q by 10. Cuz 3X4=12. Or did you mean 4 1 4 1 ?

Nah I was actually right about you dont get charges until its off cooldown. The only thing i didnt know was, even if your q is off cooldown, it will still say its on cooldown if you have zero charges. So since his q is 3 seconds cooldown, even if your q is off cooldown, the hud will still say its on cooldown and show a number ticking because what it's actually showing is the recharge cooldown. And each charge takes 15 seconds which isnt affected by cdr. The only way to get charges fast is to proc your passive in melee range, but nidalee, soraka, nami, sona can all get heals faster than 15 seconds without actually having to get charges while taric needs to proc his passive at least twice in melee ranged just to get 2 charges into his q so he can have 3 charges total minimum up to 5 for a decent heal. His heal is very weak without 3 or more charges but you have to wait at least 33 seconds or proc your passive twice in melee ranged and take a lot of harrass. And most times, your heal will not out heal the harrass you take trying to proc your passive.

Quote from wiki PASSIVE: Taric stores a charge of Starlight's Touch periodically, up to a maximum at once. Bravado Bravado empowered attacks grant one charge.

Do I really have to make a video showing you how it works? You hit something, you get a charge every time. Don't sit back being a pussy waiting for 30 seconds to get charges because you refuse to use your kit. There is also no reason to ever use his heal with 3 charges unless you happen to have 3 points in it so I don't know why you keep bringing up 3 charges. You should always have either 2 or 4 charges because his passive gives him 2 hits.

If you play him like you do Janna or Lulu you are not going to win ever. You have to play him like you would Darius because he is a fighter. He may as well be listed as a juggernaut.

Edit- when I post and nothing shows up so I repost...deleted other one.

I already know his passive gives him a charge. But the fact that you have to go into melee range to proc your passive and thus you are likely to get harrassed for it and taking more damage than your heal would heal in the first place. Then the fact that nidalee, nami, sona, soraka can heal for about as much as a 3 charge taric heal if not more without having to build up charges, makes taric's heal just stupid. The amount he heals for the recharge time or the risk of going melee ranged to proc it and get harrassed is not worth it. If he were healing like 1000 hp for 3 charges, maybe its worth it, but no he gets a small heal only. You can just play nid, soraka, nami, nami who can heal with a much shorter cooldown that heals about as much as a 3 charge taric q but can potentially even heal more because it has better scaling.
