Guardian VS Support (feeling)

For those who don't know, Guardian is what they call the supports in Smite. Smite is the name of the game and Fist of the Gods is what they call Smitesummoner 11 . That last bit was just to confuse you further.

There are two main differences between LoL and Smite supports I'm going to cover in this:

  1. Play style.
  2. In-game feedback.

#Play Style Supports in LoL tend to stick to the ADC in bot lane like glue during the lane phase, after maybe helping to leash the jungler. In high levels, you may see more roaming but that requires the ADC be capable enough not to die while the support is away, and the support be able to help mid enough to make up for losing EXP. Bard roams for chimes but usually the ADC gets mad about that, too.

Guardians in Smite, on the other hand, roam a lot more starting as early as level 2 or 3. In general, an ADC who needs to be babysat during the entire laning phase is too weak to play in League (which is what Smite calls Ranked, to confuse LoL players even more.)

#Feedback From the Game Itself: Assists In LoL the only recognition you get for an assist is your icon, smaller, next to the the killer's on the little kill notification. It feels a little lack-luster.

In Smite you get the same sort of medallion at the top as you get from a kill, and it makes a cool metalic noise when it pops up. It just feels more rewarding.

That's not to mention other key differences in the games like the effectiveness of pings or ward placement, but these simple differences make playing a Guardian feel better than playing a Support. I'm also leaving out "supports" who build full damage because those don't play like supports.

TL;DR: I want them to add a really cool notification on your own screen for when you get an assist. It feels really nice in Smite and should be implemented to make support players feel more recognized.

Smite sucks.

The mechanics, graphics and game engine are miserably bad.... not to mention shoving a MOBA into a 3D environment has been shown again and again to be a bad idea. There is a reason Smite is not even in the top 10 most played games online whereas LoL is #1.

None of this has anything to do with what the OP was talking about... Could you at least read his post before making a "League > Smite" post?

What's your point? this is not a Smite board.

What's my point? You'd understand my point if you read what the OP had to say before slapping your spam on here.

He seems to be under the impression that the reason LoL is number 1# is strictly quality and has nothing to do with its very low system requirements. He's also under some impression that smite is actually 3-D like the terrible flop that Paragon is, or the MOBA mode in Robocraft, which it's not. It's simply a different angle for play.

Smite's a fine game. LoL is number one because it's absolutely amazing for a game that can run on a toaster.

There are many games with even lower system requirements. They are nowhere near LoL.

Your argument is garbage.

Smite is nowhere near LoL in terms of success/player base.

Good try though.

Since you seem to be allergic to the main post I'll inform you now.

The OP is comparing supports between the two games. He is listing what Smite does for their supports (called guardians) and what League might be able to learn from it.

There, now you have no excuse for inserting a Smite vs League argument into this thread.

The Ecdysiast1 votes

There are many BAD games with lower system requirements. Your argument is simply nonexistent.

Smite has been out for half as long and doesn't boast most of its playerbase in foreign countries.

You want to pretend to know anything about the game, that's on you.

His argument that Riot can learn from a few things Smite did well involving the support role is garbage?

Would you care to be more specific?

His argument that Riot can learn from

Yes. I'm sure a low value, unpopular , low quality game did so many things better than Riot's world class, #1 product.

Yep.

redniwediS1 votes

Wow... Could you possibly fanboy any harder? I don't know if it's possible.

Smite, DOTA2, and League are all popular, world class products. Just because League is more popular than the rest doesn't mean the others suck.

But now I see you are incapable of seeing any flaw in League. The OP saw something that could be improved upon, but I guess League is perfect and we should all just praise all mighty Rito for their glorious creation that needs no changes what so ever.

Go take a cold shower and think about what you've done mate. We're done here.

Facts = Fanboying

Logic.

Low value, unpopular, and low quality are not facts mate.

You came to a thread about League and started talking about Smite simply because the OP was using Smite as a reference.

You came here to start an argument about which one is better. You are fanboying and you need to stop.

There was never an argument.

League of Legends is the #1 game online and has been for several years. Smite is not even in top 10.

The Ecdysiast1 votes

Yes, it's #1. It's been out longer. It's nowhere near on par for sales with Call of Duty or Halo, so think about that.

The game is free and requires very low computing. The game is GOOD, but it's not the best game in existence. It's simply the best option for the most people.

All you said was "Smite Sucks" with no argument at all. The only reason LoL is more popular is that it's been out longer. Congratulations. You've made no headway in an argument about a product that you had no part in creating.

MANY games have been out longer than League of Legends are not anywhere near its level of success. Your argument is flimsy.

The game is free and requires very low computing.

So are many others, your argument is once again, flimsy.

All you said was "Smite Sucks" with no argument at all.

Except I referenced the numbers as well as the mechanics and game engine.

Who is the fanboy here? the person stating facts or the person making emotional arguments and launching into strawman(strawmen?) ? hmm, let's think hard about that one.

There is a reason League of Legends is the #1 game in the world for several years in a row.

The Ecdysiast2 votes

Actually, many of the games that have been out longer have many TIMES the success of League of Legends. Look at Nintendo.

Other games yes, also are free and require little. This is just the argument of LoL vs. Smite, which requires higher settings to play at its minimum graphics.

You "referenced" mechanics by literally saying nothing but "hurdur mechanics." You didn't say anything at all about them.

You haven't stated any fact besides "LoL is the #1 computer game (existed as long as Smite has before it got popular. not #1 in profits. not #1 in customer relations. not even #1 in the rating of the game itself, just in number of users at this moment in time.)

there is a reason LoL is #1 You haven't stated this "reason" even once. That's the definition of fanboy: "it's #1 because it's #1" is not a logical argument.

literally saying nothing but "hurdur mechanics."

Strawman argument/ad hominem detected.

You are nothing more than a Smite fanboy. Your game will never reach the heights of League of Legends, the #1 online game worldwide for several years.

Never having played smite, I find the support thing interesting. Considering that support is the least favorite role, there isn't any limit to the amount of love they deserve.

As a bonus, making assists feel more rewarding also stops people from bitching bout Kill steals which is also something that happens in bot lane.

As a LoL player I actually have nothing against Smite as a game. I just don't feel as in control of my surroundings in Smite due to the over the shoulder view as opposed to the sky view of other MOBAs (like LoL and Infinite Crisis or even DOTA). I love third person shooters (Metal Gear Online 2 being my favorite one), but in a MOBA environment I just can't get the feel of it.

All of that being said, I think something that pops up letting you know you got the assist would be a good thing to add to the game.
