Weak isn't the right word for them. Personally I would go for unforgiving. If you don't know exactly what you're doing with one of them you're going to have a very difficult time figuring it out.

To put it simply someone who picks one up just to try them, even if they have a lot of game experience, will have a constant uphill battle, where as someone who has mained one for years can do well or even carry games.

A lot of melees are actually over compensated for the fact they are melee and generally automatically win against a lot of ranged champions.
