Soraka and her "Instant" silence

Heckin Support··124 votes·8,227 views

Can we please literally make this instant. The amount of times someone has walked into my e and still casted a spell before the silence hits them. Whether it be from me dropping it on them or them coming out of zonyas.

Please Riot.

I've seen this too.

You can literally use Zhonya's, have an enemy Soraka place her E underneath you, and cast spells before her E's silence take effect.

What needs to be done is have the silence refresh rate increased so that these scenarios don't happen and defy expectations from Soraka players that enemy champions in her silence zone are actually silenced like they should be.

TenSlashTen9 votes

this is because you can "queue up" abilities while in znhoyas and then they're cast before the silence has its turn on the "queue" list. Basically I'm telling you riots coding is garbage and doesn't account for hard cc's > anything else

I asked, and Meddler/Reptertoir ignore me and reply to either more relevant or less relevant posts. Good luck. I'd love for them to fix Soraka's wonky scripts..

Sorry. I don't play Soraka, so haven't noticed. Is this a cast time + ping issue or an actual delay (after the visuals)

Actual delay. Theres a split second where you can still cast spells even though her e is under you.

It seems more like it's functioning on a tick-based system, perhaps lingering from a previous testing iteration where it did damage over time with the silence attached to each damage tick. I say this because sometimes it does instant silence, others it takes a split second before.

It's something of 0.1->0.2 second delay sometimes, which makes me believe that it applies the silence in the area every 0.25 seconds instead of instantaneously to anyone that steps in the area.

But if you're talking about on a direct cast then idk, because that's supposed to be instant silence if it isn't already.

Vincent Lucius1 votes

Her E is an AoE silence field that is supposed to take effect immediately once you set it down. People can still use spells if they press the button quickly enough, even though the effect is supposed to be instant. Most problematic thing I've seen is someone flashing away after I'd set it down, but I've heard of people being able to get an attack spell off, which can make or break a fight in the cases of some hard CC or high damage abilities.

WarlockLaw1 votes

That actually explains why a Diana was able to ult me once out of her zhonyas, I always wondered what I missed about that situation

Nielarken1 votes

If you want to feel the most frustrating thing in the world play 1 game with soraka and have people walk through your silence and still cast spells.

Habitz3 votes

For real each time I see a blitzcrank about to do his run and pull i place the silence where he will pull and even though I see my spell on the ground before his grabs, his ability will still go off a good half second after my silence.

Canastus2 votes

Yeah, it's especially annoying if you're trying to silence a Thresh or Blitz who's getting ready to cast his Q. Guess what, you're the one getting hooked instead. So much for that silence.

ahferroin71 votes

Except that usage is not usually worth it. Both thresh and blitz can Q more often than Soraka can E, it's better used as zoning in trades and for canceling kat/urgot/malzahar/warwick/others ults.

It Hertz When IP1 votes

It's a good strategy for a clutch save if your ADC is low on health, trying to run, there's a clear shot for Blitz/Thresh to hook, and you don't have enough health of your own to heal him.

Soraka used to be a fun champ now shes another mage with skillshots zz

IceKingChernobog4 votes

yes because unkillable toplane tank soraka was so fun, not obnoxious at all

ihaveapotion2 votes

plenty of counters but if youre brainwashedly stuck in some kind of meta thinking i can see how you dont find them.

Axis the Dragon2 votes

Counters, yes, but most of those "counters" (assuming players of equal skill) couldn't outright kill Soraka, only push her to turret

Once she started getting rolling with items (Spirit Visage, among other things) there was no way you kill her outside of a coordinated gank

ihaveapotion1 votes

malzahar destroyed her mate, but who goes malz top? i guess set lanes are more important than countering someone huh.

Axis the Dragon1 votes

Tankraka back in the day could go in literally any lane, including Jungle

Unless your entire team is made to counter her, it's actually really hard to counterpick =P

No. I hate playing against soraka. You have to focus her or she heals everyone and you lose, but if you do you lose anyway because the carrys rip you apart. "Her heal costs her own hp" sorry, while im busy dodging 50 skillshots i dont have time to worry about sorakas stupid starcall too. I have a hard enough time trying to 100-0 Vayne before she presses 2 buttons, i dont need a BS instant aoe silence on top of that

If Soraka has balance issues, then the solution is to re-balance Soraka.

Balancing the game around buggy ability implementations is a really bad idea, for a whole host of reasons.

Riot dosent care about soraka people complain about them not carrying about Sona, which is so untrue but when it comes to Soraka no one speaks out i agree with you 100% i mean look at Garens silent how is that fair.

Quints1 votes

I mean you're complaining about a broken ability on an irritating-at-best champion. On paper most if not all champions that have aoe silences were tuned down in some way, kass got his removed, viktor, leblanc, talon albeit they're assassins and they were removed for lack of counter play, the ability to instantly shut down any champions ability to use abilities even if it is on a support type champion is unfair. There SHOULD BE some sort of longer cast time or warning to it and maybe this is riots way of saying this is it.

Photos of Ghosts11 votes

You can stop her silence just by leaving the zone.

Habitz6 votes

If yasuo's windwall can stop abilities as they hit him when cast at the last second then I don't see why soraka can't expect an equally reactive silence.

Quints1 votes

Yasuos windwall doesn't block all abilities, if you think it does you need to reread it. Also it takes a yasuo at least some idea of timing/reaction to do that if its point blank. Not to mention Yasuo and Soraka are entirely different champions in different roles who are built to do different things, Yasuo still needs a defensive ability as a fighter.

Habitz1 votes

Can stop abilities*. I never said stops every ability.

And whatever their roles are that doesn't matter, I'm saying that any champ should be able to rely on their abilities working as they're documented; so I would expect Soraka's documentation to be "after a brief delay" instead of implying it is or isn't instant: "Soraka creates a zone at a target location for 1.5 seconds, dealing magic damage to all enemy champions standing inside as it is cast. All enemy champions inside the zone are silenced as long as they remain on it.".

Yasuo's documentation is fine "Yasuo creates a gust of wind that travels forward to form a wall in front of him. The wall slowly drifts forward over 3.75 seconds, blocking all enemy projectiles with the exception of turret attacks.". That tells me it moves forward from him so even if something was an inch from hitting him (As in when the ability was behind the final destination of the wall) it would be blocked.

I will admit though the wording is kind of ambiguous for her. It says damage on cast then in another sentence silences as long as they remain in it. I think saying "after a brief delay" those remaining in the area are silenced would be more clear if the delay is intended.

Quints1 votes

It doesn't stop abilities either, read the ability. Yasuos windwall comes FROM him and doesn't just apear, which means he can block projectiles even as they're about to hit him, and the context of an ability doesn't always describe it properly/doesn't say everything it does, for example Azir's ult comes from BEHIND him, which is the only way the azir-sec would be possible.

Habitz1 votes

I said everything you just said I didn't lol

Quints2 votes

Did you? My b. Anyway what im trying to say it windwall does its intended purpose and only blocks projectiles but to an extent.

Habitz1 votes

Totally agree, just saying if Soraka's solstice intended purpose was to silence then it should do that consistently too.

Romans VI XXIII2 votes

the ability to instantly shut down any champions ability to use abilities even if it is on a support type champion is unfair.

So lets just remove all instant hard CC then? that's basically what you just said.

WW ult, Gone Annie ult, Gone Fid Fear, Gone Alistar pop-up, Gone Blits Ult, gone Galio ult, gone Malz ult, gone ....... The list goes on and on.....

You see where this goes?

Yea Brilliant.

Quints1 votes

WW is gutted and ww has to walk up to you on a champion with no gap closers/no other cc. ww also it can be qss'd, and dodged. Annie has been a controversial champion for a while now and people have been suggesting it have a cast time for a while now check the boards. Fiddle is in a really bad spot right now and is considered the worst jungler in the game, also can be qss'd or cleansed. Alistar has been nerfed, also I'm not sure if you're talking about his W or Q, BOTH of which have long cast times/aren't and haven't been instant since he was released. Blitz ult is a .75 second silence, any champion that has the ability to get any amount of tenacity can reduce it by alot. Galios ult can be clensed, qss'd and is countered by any form of cc ie: bear stance udyr Malz can be qss'd and isn't instant also he cc's himself for the duration. Your obnoxious comment at the end isn't needed.

Romans VI XXIII1 votes

And Sorakas Silence can be walked out of.

You forgot that statement since you are trying to list counters to every CC in the game.

Also, you cant clense galio ult, as it does the exact same thing as soraka silence, it re-taunts every one every fraction of a second, sure if you are lucky enough you can spam flash and cast clense and maybe you got lucky enough to get out, but its pretty low odds.

Since when can u "dodge" a WW ult, from what world are you from? Have you ever played as or vs a WW?

sad fact is tenacity reduces stuff by a %. So reducing a .75s silence has a smaller effect than reducing a 1.5s silence. If you would like me to do the math I can but you "seem" capable of comprehending this. So no getting tenacity does not reduce blits silence by "alot" when compared to other CCs through out the game. Also Blits Silence is use more for disrupting channels than keeping people from casting spells, hence the low duration. So if you are stacking tenacity vs a blits you are wasting those stats, as pop ups are not reduced and the reduction to the silence is negligible

You are a silly character :)

Quints1 votes

Galio ult can be qss'd which is what i intended By Dodge I meant Jax Counterstrike. I know all about unclensable cc and cc unaffected by tenacity. And throwing half assed comments and insults into your statement doesn't do anything for or to anyone.

It Hertz When IP2 votes

By that logic stuns should be removed too, because they do that as well. And knockups, don't forget them.

Quints1 votes

both have counterplay in various forms.

Fiveofswords1 votes

lots of people playing soraka seem to care way too much about her q and e imo. these are actually pretty meaningless spells and should rarely be cast. you really pick soraka for her w and her r. just focus on that. Soraka is not a poke support, shes not an ap carry. her q and e are really easy to avoid but are ok to throw out there in certain situations like teamfights or annoying someone trying to chase you or someone else or throwing it down on an incoming tper. outside of that, forget it. you shouldn't even be close enough to enemies most of the time to use these spells, stay far in the rear and just heal people.

ahferroin71 votes

Her w is only good if you can top up your own health with your q, and her is is a significant zoning tool. Yes the primary reason to pick her is w and r, but that doesn't mean you should ignore the rest of her kit. (and this is coming form someone who focuses so much on the healing aspect that some of my friends refer to me as the team paramedic when I play Soraka).

I almost agree, except Q refunds health which you need for W.

If it didn't, TBH, I would probably almost never use it in laning phase.

i just chug lots of potions. if its obvious i might try a q but it can be dangerous...remember you are lower on health and trying to heal with a q...and walking into poke range in order to do that. Agaisnt champs with zero poke you might get away with that. but its really risky otherwise.

That's why your best bet with Q is to let people walk into it by placing it where they will be going. But it's true that it's a dangerous game.

Instant effects are very powerful. The visual prompt is needed. This game is plagued with absurd 0.0001 second instant result abilities.

Aw an instand aoe silence with a slow and a root attached lets people cast spells sometimes for a split second, oh no how terrible
