Hey boards just wanted to ask everyone if they have similar thoughts on the current condition of the salt water scourge. More specifically does he posses the strength as a pick that he used to or is he just a suboptimal one at the moment. The reason I ask is due to shift in how I noticed he is being played, instead of being the bursty bruiser who takes pop shots at barrels to chunk the unwary I've noticed people who bring him top against me are nothing more than a pirate version of Nasus.

All he'll do is sit under tower and farm and farm and farm until he sees the inevitable 4 man bot that he can ult for assist gold than it's back to farming. And while I understand and can appreciate more passive champions when they scale heavily into late game that is where the problem lies, he dosent seem to ever pop off like he used to and while I am not saying I want him to be nuking my team from down the lane I do feel like he should be rewarded for playing well. This bothered me a lot during one of my ranked games where I went Poppy and amazingly the enemy Gangplank never died in lane to me.

I was impressed he even managed to scrounge some assists out of bot from luting, I was legitimately worried about how I was going to deal with him late game but when it rolled around nothing. Tri-force, last wisp, and some other item I can't remember barely left a dent in our support and mid when he landed a perfect chain, and since I was late game poppy it goes without saying that the attack was just brushed off.

I don't know he feels unrewarding at the moment to me at least, his laning phase is ass and the late game doesn't seem to make up for it unless he just gets leagues ahead, which can be said of any champion so I fail to see why or when he'd be useful.

GP main here. People play GP that way because that's all you really can do unless you want to feed your ass off hahaha. He can't duel anyone early, the nerf his barrels early use to the point of which you should only be really using them to zone people. Playing GP is all about biding your time and helping your team out in anyway you can. The only people still playing him are die hard fans.

The current meta we're in also doesn't really favor him, especially with the presence of top lane picks like Quinn or Graves. Most top laners can just burst and or dive him without much trouble and without help of a jungler. He's super susceptible to being camped as well.

You can still get results out of him if you learn to play him well enough. However, he'll probably never see any buffs thanks to pro players and some people who will just become too good on him even if he's a little strong. And mentioning him needing buffs here will just get you downvoted to the River Styx.

I can understand that completely and I used to main him frequently because of his late game which was what I loved the most about him however I waned myself off of him when he became increasingly popular amongst pros cause I've seen enough champs get axed to know when his time was coming and they laid it on hard with his nerfs. I just don't think his late game is that_ good it's okay but it's already limited to two criteria primarily, He needs farm and tons of it and he relies on his e to do the damage he spent the whole game building up. I mean some champs have amazing late games while doing fine in the laning phase just look at Caitlyn ,Vayne, Yasuo, Irelia etc. for the fighters mentioned they have similar responsibilities to gp. which are to do damage to key targets albeit in a more direct and reliable manner. What does the former pirate king offer if his laning phase is among some of the worst in the game, personally i cant think of a lane that is easier than him to face at this point and late game he's out matched.

I play nasus.

They fixed a bug where barrels wouldnt give nasus stacks.

I always love playing nasus into GP now.

I also main darius, and usually I can shift that matchup heavily in my favor with a few all ins since they nerfed GP's mana costs (he can't just mindlessly spam oranges every time they're off CD now).

But ya know, a lot of the older hard scaling melee champs really don't hard scale anymore. Ranged has the monopoly on the late game nowadays.

Nasus hasn't been able to hard carry games since like season 3 ever since they removed the added cast range on his ultimate and nerfed wither' anti AS component hard. Jax Is more of a mid game champion now. Sion ever since his rework has lost his potential late game. His health stacking feels so bad now compared to what it used to be and now that he's more of a tank as opposed to a drain-tankish juggernaut, he can't carry. DrMundo There's so many ways to get grievous wounds easily that he's irrelevant late game. MasterYi is just worthless at all stages of the game. It seems Gangplank will be joining the clan.

He's fine.

GP shouldn't have any early game presence when he has one of the strongest late games.

GP is probably better mid than top at the moment; there's a lot of burst and early game bullies right now.

the thing is. before gp used to be a monster late game because of barrels. tf had crit. after crit removal. armor pen was the thing to do. after lethality changes. you're forced to build 2 zeal items. which means your basically tryndamere with meh damage barrels because you just lost 2 items of ad.

GP is pretty balanced at the moment. Meaning he isn't in the spotlight, but is good enough to be used to master levels.

I still like GP, I just think Riot when about nerfing him the wrong way. They were so concerned with competitive that they made his lane really bad to the point where he can get bullied by anyone who gets a good trade.
