Should Gnar's transformation be controlled?

Gnar's always swapped between either a rough spot or an average spot, and I think a major factor in his polar nature is the fact you can't decide to stay ranged.

As for how it could work, he doesn't have an ultimate while in mini form. Soo that could simply be made the button to transform. It would maintain its other functionality, while sacrificing only the option to transform with one of the other abilities. But it's not like it's ever a surprise when he does so anyway, since the window to use an ability to trigger it before he just auto-transforms gives plenty of warning.

I'm not awake enough to dive full on into what such a minor but drastic change would do to him. But I feel like giving him the option to be ranged indefinitely would help towards making him feel more like a solid champion and less like two champions that aren't supposed to be together.

Please discuss it in the comments.

Would make AP gnar actually playable

That kind of goes against the idea of the character.

Not exactly. They could make a story element of the change, too. He could be learning to control his genes since, ya know, he's growing.

Nah, the concept of Gnar is to actually learn how to control his transformation, rather than triggering it on purpose

While that is a good idea in theory, in practice it flops, because this is a game where every opponent has control over their actions. Lacking that yourself, especially when the difference is so striking that it effectively changes your class entirely, gives you a distinct disadvantage.

For Shyvanna, you need to juggle with the fact you don't have any engage if you don't have your transformation ready. It'd be similar for Gnar.
