Can Sona PLEASE get a base movement speed boost

only zhule··9 votes·996 views

I get it, i really do. We can't boost Sona's damage numbers because it would spiral out of control in the late game. We can't boost her support given how back breaking it is already. We can't give her a 1 second root on her E.... 1 second root on a 4 second cooldown at level 16....... But can we PLEASE PLEASE give her just a bit more base movement speed? It is insane how slow she on top of how squishy. I'm not talking 350 (or higher) base movement. We don't need Sona zipping around like YI, Just 5 more base movement speed, give Sona just that tiny TINY little bit of extra survival in the early game.

I am so tired of the enemy ADC being able to run me down simply because their base movement speed is higher and/or their gap closer is on the same or shorter cooldown then my movement speed bonus. Freeze wave in middle of wave? Enemy can still get 1-2 bonus hits as i'm retreating. Run away from almost dead tower? LOOK AT ALL THIS FREE RANGE THE ENEMY ADC CAN STUTTER STEP ME TO DEATH IN, good thing my movement speed boost is on a 12 second base cooldown and accounts for less bonus range covered then basically ANY gap closer.

Sona's late game is insane. I won't deny that for a second. That said, i still believe her early game is just a hair to weak to "compensate" for that fact. A small boost to her base movement, would give Sona that tiny tiny boost she needs to better do her job in the early game, but not be such a large power spike that she would be impossible to kill / apply to much pressure against opponents.

Membah how it's a F teir skill with basically no scaling per level? Membah that no one in their right minds puts points into until they literally have nothing else they can level? Membah how no one gets it till level 4 (3 if you are REALLY strapped to chain the passive).

OR perhaps remember the point i made in the actual post. IT ISN'T ENOUGH TO ESCAPE ANYONE WITH A GAP CLOSER OR SLOW EFFECT, because the bonus range you travel is less then basically ALL the gap closers in the game. Remember how the cooldown in basically the same as all the "proper" gap closing skills?

I geuss the joke wasn't clear. I was south park refrencing the OLD version of her E which gave a persistant move speed buff that only went away when using a different skill.

Pika3104 votes

...and Sona suffered low base movement speed as a direct result of that.

What did Rito do when they took it away? Did they buff her MS to compensate? No, THEY FUCKING NERFED IT, cause Rito fucking hates Sona. They nerfed her, then literally nerfed her AS COMPENSATION for nerfing her.

Look at how much movement speed she get mid-late game on her core build. item 3098 queen tribute passive: 50% bonus movement speed for 1 sec after dealing damage to enemy. item 3100 7% movement speed. Her E + 14% movement speed for 3~7 secs with 7 sec cooldown without cooldown reduction

She is a support can just skip boot for damage/unity item because how fast she can run. If you're thinking Sona is slow, you're playing her wrong.

He SPECIFICALLY says early game though. As in, before you have the FQC quest done, before you have Lich's, Luden's or Censer. He's talking about those first 10 minutes where Sona struggles to trade against smarter people who can just run her down when she pokes. In that context, a +5MS buff is very reasonable. It wouldn't make her much faster mid-late game and be a decent help early.

I play Midlane Sona, and one of the BIGGEST perks she has is that she can forego boots altogether in favor of the Lich's, Luden's, Censer trio which give a whopping 25% combined MS on top of massive amounts of AP and other things Sona loves. She's nigh untouchable late because i run at a constant 500+ MS while spamming her AP boosted E.

And all that doesn't stop me from being easily wiped by even some of the smaller AoE spells because i can't dodge in the first five levels, or assassins who can just keep Autoing me to death after they instantly teleport on me with their kit.

I can manage without that buff, but it'd be a neat help early.

I know, im a Sona main too, 5 MS will be a help, but first, think about it. As support, currently how she poke right now is wait for enemy ADC to go trying farm the minions and Q aa them. Early game Q aa always deal more damage than enemy ADC even they try to aa you, which will result them losing cs, which is good for your team. But what happend if she have 5 ms? the part "adc can aa alteast one to you when you try to poke" get removed. Basically you tell everyone to remove her weak point- which make her interesting to play (i love it when i can out mind enemy ADC and make them feel "I want to attack that Sona so so much but i cant miss that CS and they miss the CS anyway.") As mid, both you and me know how hard Sona can **snowball **mid lane. A Fed Sona mid doesnt need CS and just roam around with her E and Q aa half health bar people. You dont want a champion snowball that hard to get strong early game or riot have to nerf her to the ground again, which i want sona to keep stay low and be a balanced champion.

Sona's **SINGULAR **damage spell has the **UNCONTESTED **lowest base damage of supports in **THE ENTIRE **GAME. She's tied with Soraka for weakest auto attacks and her full "poke combo" is mathematically amongst the worst in the game, even comparable to Braum's.

Sona is the worst support & arguably the weakest character in League. She lacks damage, snowballing, healing, CC, mobility, shielding, durability, range or any sort of niche to compensate for being the worst-of in every aspect of supporting. Sona requires both a **FULL REVERT **to pre-3.14 **AND **pure buffs IN ADDITION, to become a viable character once again.

I mean, I don't like her design either, but you're blatantly wrong on all fronts. At least at this point, anyway.

I mean, on one hand, her design DOES suck, which is why you see her doing poorly time and time again in the pro league.

However, itemization theoretically fits her SO WELL that, as far as solo queue goes, she doesn't even just glide on by anymore. She freaking screams through at 200 mph, given coin's unbalanced as hell.

Your line of thought makes me want to call bullshit on the idea of you being a "Sona main". You use the same logic that people who never touch the champion, but hate how "freelo" she is, use to shoo away the ideas of buffs. "She does so much damage in a single attack trade" great, now if only she could apply follow up pressure in the following 10-20 seconds. "You just need to out mind game your opponents, and attack when they go in for farm" wonderful, now if only i way playing exclusively again Draven's and Jinx's, compared to Tristana or Lucian who can still get in good damage even if i only attack during their attempts to farm.

What really gets me though, is the Sona going mid. Now it's possible to do, but very few people are going to take a slow low health mage with no CC and a reliance on an auto attack follow up; mid against very mobile high damage output champions who have some combo of long range / gap closers / AOE. But you bring up the age old shitty arguement, "but if she gets fed...", when is this not true for EVERY CHAMPION! You can litterally make that argument about any one, Soraka is insanely broken if you manage to be thousands of gold ahead of your opponent in the early to mid game. I could run Taric mid and would be a huge threat if i ended up 7/1/x during the early game.

And notice how i didn't complain about her movement speed in the mid to late game? item 3098 is great, but notice how your aren't going to complete the quest for the bonus movement speed in the early game? The area of the game where Sona is PAINFULLY slow, and prone to being run down from traditionally "safe" locations.

The idea isn't that Sona needs to be super slippery in the early game. It's the idea that if the enemy fail their engage, IE Leona misses her blade / Lux misses or hits minions with her root / Blitzcrank pulls a non champion, it would be lovely if they couldn't still keep pace / out pace you and set up for another go while you are still trying to haul your butt back from their outer turret to yours. It would be lovely if Sona could survive a single mistake in the early game provided your opponents don't make proper use of it AND you play smart after the mistake.

Lol. Sona movespeed up which has like a 10 sec cd still outruns master yi r which has like an 80 sec cd.

No, you really don't. Sona's already arguably overpowered. She doesn't need buffs.

Emmy Cha0s2 votes

It's only "arguable" in bronze, because that's the only division where players don't know how to right-click.

chipndip12 votes

That feel when the highest ranked support player in NA is a Sona main that doesn't build boots...

Rexxiee2 votes

Wait so this thread isnt sarcastic.

You actually think sona needs buffs?

Shes literally one of the strongest supports in the game right now, only behind janna.

LyingOnLine2 votes

What, you've never been introduced to the Sona circlejerk before?

How long have you been on the boards, anyways?

Ethan Allen1 votes

run ms quints? would fix that problem.

Warlord Rhinark1 votes

Ms quints are going to be gone in a few months, but until then I could see it as a temporary solution.

Pika3104 votes

So you're saying Sona players should be **FORCED **to improvise, just because Rito refuses to fix a CLEARLY DEFINED flaw? Whelp, I guess that really isn't any different from how she already is because Rito hates her... Forced to cheeze with artificial scalings(Spellblade; Echo) to compensate for being the weakest support in the game.

DeathBurst1 votes

I do play Sona myself, and the purple spell is enough. If you get jumped on by people with gap closers, it's because you were not properly positioned in the first place.

I usually take the E Lvl5, and buy Boots on my 2nd back, and I'm fine with that.

I Love Thresh1 votes

sona is really fine as she is, if you can't harass the enemy laners early without getting caught, you're gonna have to git gud (know when to and when not to poke)
