You have to remember that. League is just a game. It helps keep you from getting tilted about a feeding player. It helps keep you from being to angry about patch changes. It helps me keep from being tilted about DQ stuff. RIOTs primary goal is to let as many people have fun as possible (outside of pro play).

To some players, it's a path to improve. It's a testament of skill and a dream to be a part of pro play. To some it's more than just about "having fun", it's about creating a competitive atmosphere in which players get pit against one another. It's an outlet for stress and a form of entertainment that players spend a significant amount of their lives on.
League extends to beyond just being "a game". People make careers in every field of the world off this game, whether it's music, biometrics, cosmetics, entertainment, business, banking, computing/programming, and basically anything else you might think of. League is a sport, it represents teamwork and independence at the same time. It empowers those who don't do well in the real world. It does so much more than just act as a game for many players.
So ya, it is just a game for the casual players who log on every once in awhile to enjoy themselves, but they don't represent the large portion of the community that use it for further means.
Disclaimer: This is by no means a free pass to go be toxic. Being toxic is about immaturity and thin-skin, both bad qualities as a player and a human being. So don't be a douche summoners :3
